Check out my modified canteen and cup mess kit. The best canteen and cup combo I've found is the US Army issue canteen and cup. What I don't like about the standard canteen is that it's plastic, which means it makes the water taste terrible, isn't as hygienic as stainless and can't be used to boil water. Military Canteen Cup Cooking
Feel free to share your recipes, I'm open to new ideas. A quick video about cooking with a military canteen cup and pot stand. I made my own lid and wind screen from an aluminum turkey pan I got from the 99 cent store. I used military surplus trioxane, but you can use a lot of different things. I've used a tea candle, cotton balls soaked in vasaline, Weber bbq charcoal starting cubes, wood, hexamine, and alcohol. I use: 1 1/4 cup water, add a little more if you want soup 1 cup of instant rice. 1 TSP tomato flavored chicken bullion 1/2 cup of dehydrated mixed veggies: corn, peas, carrots 2 TBSP dehydrated onions 1 TBSP dehydrated garlic 1 TBSP olive oil Put it all in a zip-lock bag Heat water to a boil or at least really hot and add dry ingredients. Let it absorb the water for ~five minutes and enjoy.

Canteen Cup Stove - 0° or 180°
In this video I try to address the can of worms I opened with my last video "Canteen Cup Stove -Esbit". There seems to be two camps (no pun intended) on the placement of the canteen when used with the canteen stove. I have gotten comments and e-mails from people that say the canteen should be placed down in the canteen cup stove. That otherwise the bottom of the cup is to far from the Esbit or Trioxane to capture the heat properly and that heat will be wasted. Also that the canteen cup is only placed on top of the stove when wood is being burned. I started out thinking that the cup should be placed inside the stove and have used it many times this way and was disappointed with the results. But after getting comments and e-mails from people saying the cup should be rotated 180° and the placed on the stove (yes, I did not originate this idea and I have set no claims that I did) I've come to like the 180° idea regardless of the heat source I use. Some people are so sure of the "cup down in" method (what I call the 0°) that I've even been called a few nasty names for suggesting the way I think the stove should be used (what I call the 180°). I'm not worried about the names (that goes with putting things out on the Internet) but I would like to try to show why I think the stove should be used this way. I hope this video will show that the 180° method seems to work betterand that by using it even a half cube of Esbit, just 7 grams, will bring a cup of water starting at 60° to a <b>...</b>
