
Caribbean Red Habanero Chili Pod Taste Test Early spring and I ran across 3 seedlings at the local nursery, so being a complete moron, I bought 'em, planted 'em, and now it's time to pay the piper. So, what was it like? TASTE: It was very fleshy. Kinda sweet and fruity while chewing it, with a slightly bitter taste in the back of the mouth. The after taste was mild and very pleasant, I'm almost sure to find plenty of uses for these bad boys in the kitchen. You may be thinking, I went straight from chewing to the after taste. There's a reason for that. After about 5 seconds of chewing, it poured on the heat, and any hint of flavor vanished behind, for lack of a better word, searing pain. HEAT: WOW, it's estimated to be roughly 2X the Orange Hab, and you'll get no argument outta me. Tossed it in my mouth, and within 5 chews, I knew this dude meant business. Almost instant searing heat attacked the back of my throat making it difficult to even swallow. Once I got it down, I felt a warm feeling in the esophagus and stomach, but the mouth was purely ablaze. It had a searing heat, kinda like cayenne does, but much more intense, and started at back of throat and slowly moved forward. Tongue on fire, lips stinging, nose running, mouth drooling, ears itchy and popping, the whole nine yards. It also had that classic hab burngoing on as well, that starts off dull, then builds and builds to a throat numbing intensity.
