Captain Phantom (aka Zach Hartley) has been crashing Surf PE classes up and down the Southern California coast with a van full of new Hurley Surfboards to pass out for kids to demo. Monday morning, he was at it again. Said the Cap'n: "We just wrapped up another great Surf Demo with 25+ kids from Carlsbad High School. When we rolled into the parking lot at Tamarack on Monday morning almost all the kids in the class were already suited up, waiting to demo the boards. Everyone was all smiles, and there seemed to be lots of interest around the boards (from kids and parents). The entire Surf PE class left the beach wearing their new Hurley beanies, and as we were about to leave, the whole group yelled, 'Thank You!' Really amazing stuff." Video: PK

www.BikeWearWorld.com and www.uRide.tv were on location in the city of Carlsbad, California for the annual triathlon. 1200 participants showed up to race the 30th sprint distance tri. The weather was a perfect May Gray, June Gloom for an all out 100% race to the finish. We caught up with professionals like Jessi Stensland and the winner Mr. Lewis Elliot, who actually demonstrated the flawless routine it takes to pull off course records that Luke Bell previously had. This was an incredible win considering Mr. Lewis Elliot was added to the roster last minute. He was super laid back and chill to start with the waves in San Diego; meanwhile, knowing this was a precursor for his true season ahead! Watch out for him in Kona! WM's Manual Garbage Collection--Carlsbad, CA (Part 1)
As common as it is to see WM collecting trash manually in, say, Florida, it is a rare sight here in California. Carlsbad is one of the last cities where completely manual collection is still going strong, with two-stream recycling in crates, and trash as well as greens in customer-provided cans. The truck you'll see here is the main kind that collects in the city of Carlsbad, just up the coast from San Diego. A split version of this same truck would be doing the recycling, and another front loader on a Volvo chassis (most commonly) is what does the yard waste. This was filmed right after Christmas of 2009, the same day that I caught the Heil POD on video actually. You'll notice quite a lot of cardboard being taken with the trash here, I'm sure it can be argued that that doesn't resemble WM's policy of "Think Green" so well. It might be that they only do that around Christmas when people stuff cardboard boxes with all their trash and set that out...Comment on the video please! I worked hard for this and wasted too much of my time editing it as well! Hope you enjoy it though!

May 23, 2009 - Timpanogos Cave National Monument shows proof of a worldwide flood. It took me 4.5 hours round-trip to hike the trail because I had to stop several times to rest. Admission fee was only $7 for adults - well worth it. www.nps.gov Near Provo, Utah - Covering an area of less then one square mile, Timpanogos Cave National Monument, protects three interlinked limestone caverns, 1060 feet above the floor of American Fork Canyon in the Wasatch Mountains, reached by a steep 1.5 mile trail up the rocky slopes. The hike is quite strenuous, so relatively few make the journey yet even so, in summer a wait of several hours may be necessary before entering the caves, which may only be visited as part of a ranger-led guided tour. The formations are on a much smaller scale than in other more famous cave systems such as Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico but are still very pretty, the main attraction here being the multitude of helicites - an unusual, twisting, microcrystalline variety of calcite with many delicate forms. Timpanogos Cave National Monument is located off I-15 at the Alpine/Highland exit (exit #287). Exit the Interstate and follow State Road 92 for 10 miles as it heads towards the Wasatch Mountains and climbs up American Fork Canyon to the Timpanogos Cave National Monument Visitors Center. The trail to the cave begins at the Visitors Center. There is a fee station located at the mouth of American Fork Canyon which charges a small fee per vehicle to visit the <b>...</b>

The track was horrific - Carlsbad's clay surface gets very slippery when you add water. All sizes and skill levels in one class - which no one won, because no one finished!
