Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry

Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry Seasons Greetings to everyone. Lyrics: Hey, Mr. Churchill comes over here to say we're doing splendidly But it's very cold out here in the snow, marching to win from the enemy Oh I say it's tough,I have had enough Can you stop the cavalry? I have had to fight, almost every night down throughout these centuries That is when I say, oh yes yet again Can you stop the cavalry? Mary Bradley waits at home in the nuclear fall-out zone Wish I could be dancing now in the arms of the girl I love Chorus: Dub a dub a dum dum Dub a dub a dum Dub a dum dum dub a dub Dub a dub a dum Dub a dub a dum dum Dub a dub a dum Dub a dum dum dub a dub Dub a dub a dum Wish I was at home for Christmas Bang! That's another bomb on another town While Luzar and Jim have tea If I get home, live to tell the tale I'll run for all presidencies If I get elected I'll stop - I will stop the cavalry Chorus Wish I could be dancing now in the arms of the girl I love Mary Bradley waits at home She has been waiting 2 years long Wish I was at home for Christmas

The Battle of Waterloo - Charge of the British Heavy Cavalry

"At this crucial juncture, Uxbridge ordered his two brigades of British heavy cavalry, formed unseen behind the ridge, to charge in support of the hard-pressed infantry. Continuing their attack, the squadrons on the left of the Household Brigade then destroyed Aulard's brigade. Despite attempts to recall them, however, they continued past La Haye Sainte and found themselves at the bottom of the hill on blown horses facing Schmitz's brigade formed in squares. Napoleon promptly responded by ordering a counter-attack by the cuirassier brigades of Farine and Travers and Jaquinot's two lancer regiments in the I Corps light cavalry division. The result was very heavy losses for the British cavalry." From the movie Waterloo. www.imdb.com en.wikipedia.org

At the end of this I had to fight more enemies in an other battle, but let say that I choosed to take my 50 renown bonus from that victory and retreat to my nearby castle where I had a good 84 garrison forcing the enemies to ignore me as a target and allowing my weaken army (and heavily wounded soldiers) to recover. Christmas Song "Stop the Cavalry" by The Cory Band

"Stop The Cavalry" is a song written and originally performed by the musician Jona Lewie. The song peaked at number three in the UK Singles Chart in December 1980. The song was never intended as a Christmas hit, but the line 'Wish I was at home for Christmas' as well as the brass band arrangements made it an appropriately styled song to play around Christmas time. This version is by The Cory Band with The Gwalia Singers.

Battle of Waterloo: French Cavalry Charge

A little before 16:00, Ney noted an apparent exodus from Wellington's centre. He mistook the movement of casualties to the rear for the beginnings of a retreat, and sought to exploit it. Following the defeat of d'Erlon's Corps, Ney had few infantry reserves left, as most of the infantry been committed either to the futile Hougoumont attack or to the defence of the French right. Ney therefore tried to break Wellington's centre with cavalry alone. Wellington's army responded by forming squares (hollow box-formations four ranks deep). en.wikipedia.org From the movie Waterloo. www.imdb.com

BLACK HORSE REGIMENT: 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment BEST COMBAT UNIT in Vietnam 1/3

America's most capable and successful combat unit in Vietnam was the 11th Armored Cavalry (ACR) "Black Horse" Regiment--bar none. Watch this amazing documentary and learn what RIGHT LOOKS LIKE. Light mechanized M113 Gavins with armored cavalry assault vehicle (ACAV aka female machine gun light tank) gunshield kits www.combatreform.org can roam cross-country at-will to maneuver where needed to dominate fluid, non-linear battlefield (NLB) situations: www.geocities.com Even Vietnam's closed terrain couldn't stop 11th ACR ground and air cavalry maneuver. The 11th ACR was a self-contained cavalry formation (today it's the OPFOR at Fort Irwin, NTC but has deployed to combat in Iraq) with its own M48 Patton medium and M551 Sheridan light tanks backed by M109 105mm and 155mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs). It even had its own mini-Air Force of a "ThunderHorse" air cavalry troop with UH-1 Huey helicopter gunships that could also insert/extract aeroscouts. The first thing the Black Horse Regiment did was to invite the VC/NVA to try to ambush them on their main supply route (MSR) which when they flanked them by cross-country maneuver resulted in the enemy being wiped out; restoring civilian use of linear roads. NONE OF THIS TRACKED COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS CAN BE DONE IN STRYKER OR HUMVEE WHEELED TRUCKS. The VC/NVA would kick our asses today if we tried to fight them in our current BS wheeled trucks. Vietnam War: 1st Air Cavalry Division on Patrol - Part 3 (1971)

Watch the full film: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com CAB, 1st Cavalry Division traces its history to early 1963, when the Army began to gather helicopters into the 11th Air Assault Division to test the airmobile concept. Shortly thereafter, they were reassigned to the 1st Cavalry Division. On 1 August 1965, the 1st Cavalry Division was sent to Vietnam. Aviators participated in 14 campaigns and received seven decorations during its seven years of duty in Vietnam. The first Army aviator to win the Medal of Honor in the Vietnam War was a member of the 227th Aviation Battalion. US Army CH-21 helicopter transports arrived in Vietnam on 11 December 1961. Air assault operations using South Vietnamese (ARVN) troops began 12 days later in Operation Chopper. These were very successful at first but the Viet Cong (VC) began developing counter helicopter techniques and at Ap Bac on January 1963, 13 of 15 helicopters were hit and four shot down. The Army began adding machine guns and rockets to their smaller UH-1 Huey helicopters and developed the first purpose built gunship, the UH-1B with the M-6E3 armament system. US Marine helicopter squadrons began four month rotations through Vietnam as part of Operation SHUFLY on 15 April 1962. Six days later, they performed the first helicopter assault using US Marine helicopters and ARVN troops. After April 1963 as losses began to mount, US Army UH-1 Huey gunships escorted the Marine transports. The VC again used effective counter landing ...

War Art 30: Cavalry Charge

Is anything more stirring than a cavalry charge? Bad guys have us surrounded, Napoleon bringing in his infantry, Indians circling the wagons, and just when things look bleakest, we hear the ringing bugle note over the horizon. Just in the nick of time! Saved by the cavalry. Clash of swords. Slap of leather. Thundering hoofbeats. And a hearty, "Hiyo Sil----" Hmmm. No, that's another guy. This is just one good cavalry charge after another, from primitive times to the charge of the light brigade. Cavalry was an effective weapon right up to the First World War, when trenches and machine guns spelled an end to old-fashioned cavalry charges. Even so, cavalry units lasted until World War II, by which time they had become mechanized. If you want to see a cavalry charge these days, you'll have to watch tanks, listen to the clatter of treads, and inhale the stink of gasoline. For music we have two pieces -- a country/folk salute called "I Want To Be In The Cavalry," performed by the Corb Lund Band, followed by the traditional "Gary Owen," the signature anthem of George Armstrong Custer and his Seventh Cavalry.

7th Cavalry Regiment (Regimental March)

The 7th Cavalry Regiment is a United States Army cavalry regiment, whose lineage traces back to the mid-19th century. Its official nickname is "Garryowen", in honour of the Irish drinking song Garryowen that was adopted as its march tune. Lyrics: We are the pride of the army, And a regiment of great renown, Our names on the pages of history, From sixty six on down. If you think we stop or falter, While into the fray were goin' Just watch the step with our heads erect When our band plays "Garry Owen." In the Fighting Sevenths' the place for me. It's the cream of all the cavalry; No other regiment ever can claim Its pride, honor, glory, and undying fame. We know no fear when stern duty Calls us far away from home, Our country's flag shall sagely o'er us wave, No matter where we roam. Tis the gallant Seventh Cavalry, It matters not where we're going such you'll surely say as we march away, When our band plays "Garry Owen." Then hurrah for our brave commanders! Who lead us into the fight. We'll do or die in our country's cause. And battle for the right. And when the war is o'er And to our home we're going Just watch the step, with our head erect, When our band plays, "Garry Owen." Performed by the USAF Heritage of America Band.

GarryOwen - Original Lyrics~7th Cavalry Regimental March

"Garryowen" is an old Irish quick-step that can be traced back to the early 1860's. In 1867, "Garryowen" was adopted by the 7th Cavalry Regiment as the official Air (tune) of the Regiment, and the historical nickname given to the 7th Cavalry Regiment and Troopers. It became the Official tune of the 1st Cavalry Division in 1981. "Garryowen" has become undoubtedly the most famous of all the regimental marches in the Army. The word garryowen is derived from Irish, the proper name Eóghan ("born of the yew tree") and the word for garden garrai - thus "Eóghan's Garden". The term refers to an area of the town of Limerick, Ireland. "Garryowen" is known to have been used by Irish regiments as a drinking song. As the story goes, one of the Irish "melting pot" Troopers of the 7th Cavalry, under the influence of "spirits", was singing the song. By chance Custer heard the melody, liked the cadence, and soon began to hum the tune to himself. The tune has a lively beat, that accentuates the cadence of marching horses, and for that reason was adopted as the regimental song soon after Custer arrived at Fort Riley, Kansas to take over command of the 7th Cavalry Regiment. It was the last song played for Custer's men as they left General Terry's column at the Powder River and rode into history. The tune became the official "Air" of the Regiment in 1867 and actually became the official tune of the entire 1st Cavalry Division in 1981. The significance of the tune in the Regiment's history led ...

Little Big Man (USA 1970) - Custer's 7th. Cavalry attacked Cheyenne Camp on the Washita River

Little Big Man (USA 1970) Directed by Arthur Penn Dustin Hoffman: Jack Crabb Chief Dan George: Old Lodge Skins Aimee Eccles: Sunshine Richard Mulligan: General Custer Jack Crabb is the only white survivor of the Battle of Little Big Horn and the centenarian shares his story in this picaresque fable of the Old West. In Arthur Penn's adaptation of Thomas Berger's novel, Dustin Hoffman plays Jack from teen years into old age in a bravura performance. And Jack's story is a fantastic one: captured by Indians as a boy, reared as an Indian, shuttling back and forth between the white and Indian worlds. In the process, he befriends everyone from Wild Bill Hickock to George Armstrong Custer and is a gunslinger, a snake-oil salesman, and an Army scout. This is a solid blend of comedy and tragedy, with a strong statement to make about America's treatment of Native Americans without sermonizing. A terrific cast includes Faye Dunaway, Martin Balsam, and Richard Mulligan. But this show is all Hoffman's. (Marshall Fine)
