From the liner notes to "Ego Trip's The Big Playback" (2000) www.allmusic.com Original rap ghostwriter, DJing emcee giant and all-around old school legend GRANDMASTER CAZ exhibited stoopid-freshness himself on one of his most slept-on records, "Get Down Grandmaster" (1988). Here, the helping hands of Ultramagnetic MC's chief production officer CED GEE provide the aggressive beat-making muscle. A little guitar, some "Impeach the President" snares and a few choice turntable manipulations and former Cold Crush Brother never sounded so jeep ready. Appropriately, Casanova Fly rises to the occasion lyrically with some poignant recollections of his experiences in the rap game: "I carried amps in the rain, speakers in the snow/ Spent more than I made when I did a show/ Played in clubs in the winter without no heat/ In dressing rooms with rats runnin' under my feet/ The blackout in '77, the city went dark/ Had my whole sound system jammin' in the park." Grandmaster Caz remembers Crazy Eddie
The Great Cocaine Epidemic hit hip hop in the eighties and took out a bunch of the first generation, although many have rebounded since. Grandmaster Caz was a leading rapper and dj who began as a break dancer and graffiti writer. He is the one of the few first-generation to master all the elements of hip hop. Best known today as the author of the Superman rap in "Rappers Delight," (for which he was paid nada) and as the star of the Cold Crush Brothers, who briefly became the biggest Bronx act after Flash split from the Furious. Cold Crush were offered an audition for "Beat Street" but declined because they felt they shouldn't have to audition. Known primarily for their live shows, they unfortunately never recorded, although legendary tapes exist. First generation hip hop will be honored at the 23rd Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, Thanksgiving 2010.

Grandmaster Caz's Myspace: www.myspace.com Get Grandmaster Caz's Music: www.amazon.com & itunes.apple.com After seeing Kool Herc play at a party in the Bronx in 1974, Fisher decided to become a DJ, and purchase the necessary equipment the next day. As "Grandmaster Caz", he teamed up with his best friend, DJ Disco Wiz (Luis Cedeno). He later would team up with JDL (Jerry Dee Lewis) and form The Notorious Two. Caz began incorporating rhymes with his DJing and become known as the first DJ to do so. In 1978 he formed a group called the Mighty Force with Whipper Whip (James Whipper) and Dot-A-Rock (Darryl Mason). In 1979 DJ Charlie Chase (Carlos Mandes) from The Cold Crush Brothers asked Caz to help audition MCs for his group which was really a way for Charlie Chase to trick Caz into joining the Cold Crush Brothers. JDL, Whipper Whip, and Dot-A-Rock were also part of The Cold Crush Brothers before Whipper Whip and Dot-A-Rock left to join The Fantastic Five. The Cold Crush Brothers began building a reputation in the burgeoning hip hop scene in New York, mostly for Caz's routines and lyrical ability. Around this time, record mogul Joe Robinson, husband of Sylvia Robinson, and, along with his wife, co-founder of Sugar Hill Records, happened to hear part-time club bouncer and manager of the Cold Crush Brothers, Big Bank Hank (Henry Jackson) rapping to a tape of Grandmaster Caz while working at a pizzeria.
