**I realize the spelling error in "unrehearsed" but there are too many sites pointing to this video to take it down and correct that right now but it will be corrected when traffic slows down. Thank you." Almost homeless Cellist Eli Potash plays on the streets of Salt Lake City, Utah. Many people know of Eli and his cello entertainment and he has become part of the downtown experience. In this video The Daniel Day Trio mentioned that they wanted to get Eli a new cello and I asked to film the story. We finally tracked Eli down and DDT asked if they could set up and play with him some Christmas songs. Then at the end of playing surprised him with a lighter, better cello than the one that he has been using. Thank you for viewing and please spread and share this video of a beautiful example of the Christmas spirit! The Cellist of Sarajevo, by Steven Galloway, read by Gareth Armstrong

Sarajevo, in the 1990s, is a hellish place. The ongoing war devours human life, tears families apart and transforms even banal routines, such as acquiring water, into life-threatening expeditions. Day after day, a cellist stations himself in the midst of the devastation, defying the ever-present snipers to play tributes to victims of a massacre. A true story of a cellists resistance helps to form this pivotal event in Steven Galloways extraordinary novel. Against this, the author touchingly describes three ordinary townspeople and their efforts to retain their humanity, sanity and autonomy as war takes hold of their lives. This bestselling novel is immediate, vivid and deeply affecting on audiobook, fully immersing the listener in the havoc of war.

Famous Cellist Yo-Yo Ma Performs in New York

World-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble performed a series of concerts at the Lincoln Center in New York earlier this week. Their first performance at Damrosch Park was free to the public, attracting a broad audience of 3500 listeners, and commemorating both the 50th Anniversary of the Lincoln Center and the Silk Road Ensemble's 10-year anniversary. Ma was joined by virtuoso musicians from around the world, bringing audience members a broad assortment of music from different regions. Chinese Pipa virtuoso Wu Man was among the soloists. This traditional Chinese four-stringed lute has been one of China's most popular instruments since the Tang Dynasty, more than 1000 years ago. Many audience members were simply there to see Ma, and for some it was their first time to see him perform live. The world-famous musician is considered by critics to be one of the best cellists in the world, and is also well known by martial arts fans for performing on the soundtrack of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. 50th Anniversary celebrations at the Lincoln Center will continue through May next year. Giovanni Sollima - Sogno ad Occhi Aperti (Daydream) PART 1

Directed by Lasse Gjertsen Copyrights: Casa Musicale Sonzogno, Milan, 2007 This is a music video for the italian cellist Giovanni Sollima, on two of his compositions; "Terra Aria" and "Concerto Rotondo". Enjoy! www.sonzogno.it So this is the project I've been working on for the last 5 months, and heres how part 1 of it is made: On the six arms parts, which by the way took most of the time to make, I filmed Sollima playing the different layers of cello after each other. I then edited the video frame by frame in Photoshop (remember, it's 25 frames per second of video), cutting his arms out from the other layers and pasting it on top, matching the movement of the cello. This was done ca 4000 times, by myself. The clouds were actually filmed in my backyard, sped up 1250 times. The birds we're filmed in my town, Larvik, Norway on clear blue sky, so that I could use blue screen keying to put them on top of the clouds. It's hard to notice, but the birds are moving in half speed slow motion. I also had to stabilize the motion of the birds, since I filmed it with handhelt camcorder. The sequence was cut together using After Effects and Premiere. The forest, river sequence was photographed in a forest in Arona, Italy. I took a picture ca. every five meters, and morphed the images together using WinMorph, matching the pace of the music. The zooming sequence is very hard to explain. Basically, the first 8 seconds after it starts zooming and when you see Mr Sollima's face is real ...

Although he did not introduce new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, an unrivalled control of harmonic and motivic organisation, and the adaptation of rhythms, forms and textures from abroad, particularly from Italy and France. -------------------------------------- Mischa Maisky Mischa Maisky, born on January 10th, 1948 in Riga, Latvia, is a Latvian cellist. Studied at the Leningrad Conservatory and later with Mstislav Rostropovich at the Moscow Conservatory whilst pursuing a concert career throughout the Soviet Union.
