Retired US Air Force Captain Jason Vest, his wife, son (age 7) and daughter (age 5) will be able to stop dreaming of a new home -- they will be able to start living in one as recipients of a house in the Centex community of West Fork Ranch in North Fort Worth, Texas. Centex joined Operation FINALLY HOME to give this veteran hope and a home. Vest, a native of Fort Worth, enlisted in the Air Force in 2000 as an airborne radio operator and commissioned as an officer to serve as a pilot in 2006. He served in both Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has been recognized with many service awards, commendations and medals including expert marksman, AF Outstanding Unit Award with Valor, Air Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, and Meritorious Unit Award. Vest recently retired after being diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease, which has left him unable to perform many simple tasks, most importantly participating fully in day-to-day family life. "I have loved every day of my Air Force career and would do it all over again," Captain Vest said. Decided to add a new series to my videos... Chicago Terminal Railroad. The CTM handles switching on former Canadian Pacific Railway Tracks in Bensenville, Illinois. And also they handle former Union Pacific Railroad switching in the Centex Industrial Park - the largest consolidated business park in the world... The Chicago Terminal Railroad also handles operations on Goose Island. Very few industries remaining on Goose Island... This was filmed in August of 2010. The Power in the video is a GP10 ILSX #1396 Built in 1957! ! ! Currently they have three locomotives, each at the seperate industrial parks. The crew is very friendly and nice at the Elk Grove site. They interchange traffic with the UP. The industry they are switching out is Ropak Packaging... One of the things they make.... Cat litter buckets! They bring in plastic pellets by rail and ship the pails, buckets and containers by truck...You have to have an idea of where they are working because it is a large industrial park- I bike it since it's easier than trying to park somewhere.. If you have a scanner monitor them on 161.550. Be very careful too- a lot of truck traffic! Alot! Hope you enjoy it- Rich~

FTC 2011 Centex Robotics Regional Qualifier
Central Texas College hosted the Centex First Tech Challenge (FTC) Regional Robotics Qualifier competition on Saturday, April 2. The event was held in the Fine Arts Auditorium (Bldg. 112) with the opening ceremony scheduled for 10 am This was the largest regional qualifier as 24 teams representing high schools and robotics clubs from Houston to Waco competed for a chance to win a berth at the FTC State Championship to be held in Lubbock in May. Teams of up to 10 students were responsible for designing, building and programming their robots to compete in an alliance format against other teams. Teams which include coaches, mentors and volunteers were required to develop a strategy and build robots based on sound engineering principles. The competing teams include Priddy ISD, Cherokee High School from Cherokee, TX, Florence High School, Belton High School, Midway High School in Waco, Marble Falls High School, Florence High School, Copperas Cove High School, AJ Moore Academy of Waco, Lighthouse Christian Academy of Killeen, Hamilton ISD, Harmony School of Advancement from Houston and Shoemaker High School in Killeen.
