Google Tech Talks March, 7 2008 ABSTRACT The world has evolved a long way from the Stone Age to the Iron age, and we are now in the new age of engineered materials. Today's discussion will focus in the realm of advanced ceramics, materials that aren't typically found in nature and can withstand extreme conditions. These materials are being used to stop bullets, enable diesel engines to run more efficiently, produce solar cells, and much more. We will focus on Boron Carbide, Silicon Nitride, Silicon Carbide and a few other materials, where you will learn about how they came to be, how they are made, and where they are used. Speaker: Peter Goldstein Peter has been fascinated with the world around him and always wanted to develop new materials since he was a child. He earned BS and MS degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Florida, focusing on ceramic materials. He is currently employed at Ceradyne, Inc. a high growth, cutting edge Advanced Technical Ceramics company as a Sales Engineer. He works on developing new applications with his customers using the materials Ceradyne offers, and as a hobby enjoys making glass sculptures at his home glass-blowing studio which he built. There he gets to make new creations beyond the constraints of the ordinary world by shaping glass with jet-engine like flames. He is also newly married to a wonderful woman, Jessica, and they live happily together in Huntington Beach, CA.

SUPER THERM®: the 21st century insulation! SUPER THERM® is a unique one-part thermal insulating coating composed of high-performance aliphatic urethanes, elastomeric acrylics and resin additives in a waterborne formula. SUPER THERM® is designed with four different ceramics that block 95% of the three sources of heat of the sun. (Visual light, UV- rays and IR- rays). Two are reflective, one acts as a non conductor and the fourth blocks the IR- rays. On top SUPER THERM® emits 92% of the heat of the surface thanks to the extreme low density of the unique ceramic blend. This allows SUPER THERM® to be the only ceramic coating rated as an insulator compared to other coatings only containing glass hollow spheres that reflect visual light heat when clean. Due to the unique combination of acrylics and urethanes, SUPER THERM® cures out completely in 14 to 21 days to an extremely tough, durable, non-yellowing water resistant coating. SUPER THERM® is a permanently flexible "breathing" membrane that stops water penetration and helps to prevent condensation and thus corrosion. It should be noted, that the ceramics offer a slight texture versus a smooth finish. Typical uses As a one-coat insulation system: - on exterior and interior substrates (roofs and walls) to reduce energy costs from cooling or heating and increase comfort - on refrigerated containers, mobile homes, coaches and railroad cars to protect goods and reduce costs - on HVAC systems, oil pipes and tanks, storage systems <b>...</b>

ABEC: Many Skateboard Bearings are marketed with an "ABEC rating" of 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 What do these ratings mean? But what do these ratings mean, and do they correspond to how well a bearing works for skateboarding? The Annular Bearing Engineering Committee was created to set standards for bearing tolerances. ABEC sets tolerances, which are only the dimensions of the entire bearing and the allowable spaces between the balls and the inner ring and the outer ring/race. That's all! The ABEC scale does not rate speed, durability, axial and torsional loads, torque, steel grade, ball sphericity, materials, surface finish, raceway depth, ball size, lubrication, and on and on. ABEC strictly measures tolerances. An ABEC 3 bearing can actually function better than an ABEC 7, because ABEC does rate these other factors. The point of ABEC is to set tolerance measurements that are used as guidelines to follow for the manufacturing of precision bearings. Tolerances: Tolerances are crucial for proper bearing function and load handling. A bearing must have tolerances in order to rotate. Tighter tolerances usually equal more precision and better functionality going straight down a hill or during wide turns. However, a tighter tolerance, or higher ABEC rating does not presume the bearing is faster. It only implies a bearing may function more efficiently at higher speeds. You still have to factor in axial and torsional loads, and the other factors mentioned above. Because of these additional <b>...</b>

Description Tiled roofs (hongawarabuki) are a distinguishing feature of most Japanese homes, as well as Buddhist temples, Shinto (native religion of Japan) shrines and many other types of old buildings. Kawara is the word the Japanese use to describe roof tiles in general, though there are in fact many styles and types of tiles with regional variations, and a large and specialized vocabulary is used to describe these. Japanese roof tiles are typically very well made and often outlive their intended function protecting structures from the elements. As a result, old roof tiles can sometimes be spotted in Japan being reused for unique and interesting purposes. Old roof tiles are sometimes used to reinforce earthen retaining walls, or stacked one next to another to make garden borders. Roof tiles are also buried vertically along dirt walkways with just the tips exposed a fraction of an inch above the surface to create artistic patterns and to act as paving surfaces. Decorative end caps called onigawara (ogre tiles) look especially nice as accent pieces within the home or on patios and especially when positioned amidst garden foliage. About the Listed Item The antique Japanese roof tile offered with this listing is in fair condition with chips as well as marks and scratches from age and years of outdoor exposure. There is a crack at the front of the tile. This crack does not seem to affect the structural integrity of the tile which is quite sound. There are holes on either <b>...</b>

Buy Now: bit.ly Just Water, ceramic drip filter works as well as the high end British ones only at a fraction of the cost! This half-micron filter removes water-borne bacterium with a 0.5 micron efficiency which exceeds NSF standards. The ceramic filter can be cleaned with a soft brush at least 100 times, and it produces 14 gallons of drinking water per day. This system includes a ceramic filter, filter sock, and spigot. Simply double stack two clean five gallon buckets with lids, drill a 1/2" hole in the bottom of the top bucket and through the top of the bottom buckets lid, place sock over filter and install it in the bottom of the top bucket. Drill a 3/4" hole on the side and near the bottom of the bottom bucket and install the spigot. Fill the top bucket with water from a lake, rain, tap, river or stream and in an hour you will have bacteria free water to drink in the bottom bucket. Non-returnable, buckets not included.
