The natural caesarean: a woman-centred technique

Although much effort has gone into promoting early skin-to-skin contact and parental involvement at vaginal birth, caesarean birth remains entrenched in surgical and resuscitative rituals, which delay parental contact, impair maternal satisfaction and reduce breastfeeding. We describe a 'natural' approach that mimics the situation at vaginal birth by allowing (i) the parents to watch the birth of their child as active participants (ii) slow delivery with physiological autoresuscitation and (iii) the baby to be transferred directly onto the mother's chest for early skin-to-skin. Studies are required into methods of reforming caesarean section, the most common operation worldwide.

Cesarean Section (C-Section)

This 3D medical animation shows a normal cesarean section (c-section) surgery to deliver a baby in frank breech (feet first) position. Two types of incisions are clearly shown; a low vertical incision and the more common low transverse incision (bikini cut). The baby and placenta are both removed through the uterine incision. The incision on the uterus and abdomen are then both closed. Item #ANS00178

Anna Nicole Smith - complete cesarean video

If you think a cesarean is "just another way to have a baby", think again. She's not unique -- women aren't "allowed" to talk about these birth experiences so we don't hear about it -- they are labeled ungrateful and whiners and mentally ill so they suck it up and pretend its all ok. At least she was honest about what it was like to be gutted. Everyone is thrilled with a healthy baby but that doesn't change what happened to her or the baby. If you have a cesarean, this could be you, even if you had a "wonderful" experience the last time. This is NOT birth, this is major surgery with inadequate anesthesia. It isn't beautiful, it is a horror movie. Think about Anna Nicole and her "womb busting" 6# baby when your OB says you have to have surgery or you and your baby will die. *Nobody* deserves to be tortured like that and then have it minimized.

First cesarean with hypno-anesthesia in Iran

First cesarean with hypno-anesthesia in Iran: For the first time in the country, Iranian doctors have used hypnosis as the sole anesthetic to deliver a baby via cesarean section. On Saturday at noon, 24-year-old Aida Hassanlou gave birth to her 3.950 kilogram baby girl, Saqi, by C-section while she was awake but under the effects of hypnosis. Dr. Roya Khodaei Ob/Gyn, who performed the C-section at Eivaz-Zadeh Hospital, Tehran, told reporters that her patient did not take any anesthetic drugs and only hypnoanalgesia techniques were employed during the operation. However, anesthetists were present in case of an emergency and her vital signs were carefully monitored the whole time. According to Dr. Khodaei, hypnosis blocks the perception of pain, just like a pain-killing drug, but without the sedation or side-effects. "Similar methods can be used in natural childbirth as well," she noted. Following the easy and successful 45-minute caesarian section, Dr. Hossein Almasian, the clinical hypnotherapist who used hypnosis on Hassanlou, said "Even at the point when the patient was feeling slight pain, everything was under control during the operation." "Pain management" is one of the most effective of all hypnosis applications, he added. Volunteering to be the first women to undergo a C-section without conventional methods of chemical anesthesia, Hassanlou had attended pain management sessions with Dr. Almasian for four months, before her due date. "I trust my hypnotherapist," the ...

Mock C-Section (Cesarean Section) 1-2

A c-section can be planned or unplanned. Unplanned due to: your cervix stops dilating or your baby stops moving down the birth canal, concern over the baby's heart rate, the umbilical cord slips through your cervix (a prolapsed cord), the placenta starts to separate from your uterine wall (placental abruption), or you have a genital herpes outbreak when you go into labor or when your water breaks (c-section will help avoid infection). HBAC (Homebirth after cesarean)

The story of Lucas Matthew's birth Born at home 7-11-09 with two midwives, their apprentice, and my husband present. My water broke around 4 in the morning and contractions started coming 2-4 minutes apart almost immediately. It was a gorgeous day and my husband and I were able to go for a nice long walk to speed up labor. When things got intense I hopped into the pool for some relief. My body started pushing with each contraction just hours later but the baby wasn't budging. Unfortunately his birth was less unhindered than desired due an anterior cervical lip. My midwives intervened 7 hours later and he was finally born after 21 hours of labor. It was a beautiful labor and empowering birth. It was especially healing of all of the dark memories from my first hospital birth that ended in a c-section. I was really able to connect with my husband and my body during all of it. It was truly a life-changing experience!

Twins Birth by Cesarean (non-graphic)

March 20, 2007 -- At my 37w ultrasound that morning, my obstetrician noticed Baby A (Gianna) had low amniotic fluid. Both babies were doing great and very healthy, but my doctor said that the low fluid was usually the first thing to "go wrong" and so she wanted me to have the babies that day. Because Gianna was in the breech position, this meant I was off to surgery. Several hours and a blood transfusion later, Gianna Theresa was born at 5:33 PM and Adam Paul was born at 5:34 PM.

Normal Delivery v/s Cesarean part-4

Nowadays, while many would opt for a painless delivery and while I myself had this painless delivery, I would still strongly suggest one should go for the normal delivery. With normal delivery, a whole lot of benefits may be gained by the mother and the couple. Physically for the mother, normal delivery would make her more able to do things and shed be back to her normal activities sooner. These things are improbables when one gets into the CS type ofdelivery. What about you, which one did you have or prefer to have? July 25,2010
