This video was shot on Dec 14th after a hydraulic line failure in our 404 Titan forced us to make an emergency landing with the gear up. The emergency blow down bottle had a valve malfunction as well so there was no option available from that point on other than to find a place to sit it down. At the end of the slide down the runway there was a small fire on-board which I extinguished before exiting the aircraft with my crew member closely on my six . I'd like to send my thanks out to my crew member, the engineers in Wichita and to the ground crew mechanics at Mountain Home Airport in Arkansas for their assistance in relaying the communications with the engineers at Cessna, and for their mechanical knowledge that they shared with us during this unusual situation we found ourselves in. Footage courtesy of Cessna The Cessna Aircraft Company is an airplane manufacturing corporation headquartered in Wichita, Kansas, USA. Their main products are general aviation aircraft. Although they are the most well-known for their small, piston-powered aircraft, they also produce business jets. The company is a subsidiary of the US conglomerate Textron. The company traces its history to June 1911, when Clyde Cessna, a farmer in Rago, Kansas, built a wood-and-fabric plane and became the first person to build and fly an aircraft between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains. Clyde Cessna started his aircraft ventures in Enid, Oklahoma, testing many of his early planes on the salt flats. When bankers in Enid refused to loan him more money to build his planes, he moved to Wichita. In 1924, Cessna partnered with Lloyd C. Stearman and Walter H. Beech to form the Travel Air, Inc., a biplane manufacturing firm. This company was based in Wichita. In 1927, Clyde Cessna left Travel Air and formed his own company, the Cessna Aircraft Company. Instead of producing biplanes, he instead decided to focus on building monoplanes. The first flew on August 13, 1927. This video was taken from the plane window during the viewing of the lines. The weather was absolutely perfect, as it usually is in this part of the desert. From out of no where, the plane was overtaken by a large dark dense set of clouds. The passengers described fear as the captain of the plane asked them to brace themselves against the immenent turbulance. The small craft was soon entirely engulfed by the clouds. The man videoing the Nazca Lines kept the camera rolling as they passed through the clouds. Unknown to the tourist was the disk that passed unsafely close to the plane. He did not notice it until they returned to their room later on in the morning and viewed the tape. He was so shocked at what he had seen that he uploaded segments of the flight and shared them to be viewed by others. At this time the tourist is still in Peru for another 10 days and will not be available for questions until he comes back to the US.

This is a news report of a recent emergency landing (and take-off, after repairs) of a Cessna on the Interstate 95 stretch not far from me. Great video of the aircraft taking off, right at the DOT camera! That's not often seen, so it's here for your viewing enjoyment. As usual, the local news has enough inaccuracies to make this somewhat amusing. Earlier reports stated that an Essna aircraft had to take off from the highway, then it noted that the small aircraft's engines were running at full power to make the take off. A "mere 600 yards" available for taking off! The Cessna could make three take-offs with that much length, but clearly the reporter is not a pilot. This report shows the "malfunctioned fuel cylinder" briefly, which I always thought was an engine cylinder. The DOT worker adds a bit of local entertainment, certainly, "By golly, I'll tell you what!"

We took of from Sussex Airport (FWN) at near gross weight in the Cessna 172 Skyhawk and headed east toward the Hudson. No sooner did we reach cruising altitude that it was time to start descending again to duck beneath the Newark class B airspace. We made a 90 degree right turn onto the Hudson and proceeded over the George Washington Bridge southbound at 1000 feet on the Jersey side. We continued southbound past Jersey City and the Statue of Liberty. Then we made a turn to the left and crossed the Hudson toward Brooklyn. We flew south over Brooklyn to see the area we live in and then proceeded around Coney Island and around Brooklyn one more time. Then we crossed over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and headed northbound on the Hudson. After crossing over Governor's Island we continued up the Hudson on the Manhattan side passing the financial district and ground zero. Soon Chelsea Piers and the Empire State Building dominated the view. Beyond that we could see Times Square and Central Park. Further north we saw Yankees Stadium and the Throgs Neck Bridge. Once far enough to the north we climbed and turned westbound to head directly to Lincoln Park airport where we had lunch. We returned to Sussex via Sparta VOR from Lincoln Park.
