Now with the cost increase overseas and a depreciated dollar, the production is gradually returning to the US The US garment processing industry is picking up. Dept. of Commerce reports of a decline in outsourcing to China. A Manhattan' garment factory makes high-end brand apparels. Its orders rose 25% in 2011, back to the level before the global financial crisis hit. Laid off workers came back, reaching 85 full-time workers. They need to make 11000 clothes in the next four weeks. Joe Ferrara, Owner of Ferrara Manufacturing Joe Ferrara has three garment factories in New York. The business has been good this year. He has established a new model for the traditional garment industry. With his business going well now, Joe tries to get contracts from brand companies, restoring the "Made in US" reputation. The US economy had a slow growth in Q1, with no improvement on the high unemployment rate. The textile industry is one of the few doing well, due to its innovation, says the National Textiles Association (NTA). NTA reported that in 2010 it created 10000 jobs and exported 19% more garments. Meanwhile, the once popular "Made in China" is declining. Hong Kong's Lever Style is a Shenzhen-based factory, making clothes for US brands like CK and Banana Republic. Outsourcing the American Dream?

The Senate blocked a new bill, Creating American Jobs and Ending Offshoring Act that would have punished US firms that export jobs, and rewarded those who brought them back home. Most have seen this as a solely political issue, a last ditch effort by the Democrats to give the impression that they're doing something about the unemployment rate in America. The Atlantic's Derek Thompson says it's simply natural to outsource for cheaper later and explains that the US needs to look beyond manufacturing and think about the corporate income tax. Mike Elk labor journalist and contributing editor for In These Times argues that our jobs aren't going overseas because of cheap labor instead their going to countries like China because their competitive

No Need for Cheap Foreign Labor

Lou Dobbs 11-13-2007. A new study by the Urban Institute shows that universities are producing more than enough graduates in Science and Math in this country, but corporations continue to claim there aren't enough Americans so they must hire foreign workers on H-1B visas. Perhaps the best moment of the video is towards the end when Dobbs challenges Bill Gates to debate the need for unlimited H-1B visas. Americas future heading for China & India

The opiate of big business since Roman days and equally deadly: cheap labor. This interview proved the education myth was just a Red Herring. How did Americans, initially anyway, become preeminent in software development? Sona Shah was the greatest speaker of this movement and spoke with a depth that no one theretofore seemed willing or able to do! Thoroughly trouncing the "poor American education system" and or 'shortage' was the cause MYTH. Proving, as always, it's the money and the ability to take advantage of these non-immigrant visa workers that makes them more attractive that Americans or residents. Who would have believed a Democrat President, Clinton, would take the lead in the destruction of the math and computer science fields in America? (To accelerate the decline and fall of the American and world economies.) President Clinton signed that first bill, all but eliminating the cap on the number of "temporary H1B visas". Clinton literally signed the death knell for programmers and engineers alike in America. This in turn sent wise students running away from the math and sciences the powers claim we need so badly. McCain too was there walking to the same old "bomb bomb bomb" theme but this time McCain took aim at the jobs of his American constituents. Wait! He had help from his best buddy neocons Feinstein, Pelosi and Ted Kennedy designing loopholes big enough to drive hundreds of thousands of the best American jobs offshore. A great job they've done on our economy ...

In The Name of Democracy

Music: Hans Zimmer - Time Monologue: Charlie Chaplin - The Great Dictator (speech scene.) "Capitalism requires poverty and cheap labor, the excess money that capitalists call profit, is money they have stolen from the worker. To maximize profit capitalist companies outsource their labor to third world countries, this leads to higher profits for those companies. As long as there is Capitalism there will always be borders. The world will never be unified because Capitalism requires geographic zones with less rights for the workers. ie. if you need miners in a place where there's lots to mine, you create a country with laws that allow cheap mining. If you're born in a third world country you have no choice, the system is set up so that you have to earn a low wage. Rich countries accept this, and so does their youth. They quote Social Darwinism. The media brainwashes the youth, making them feel inadequate and ugly: this generates a hateful, angry mentality in people. Specially smart people are stigmatized. Why do you think the terms Nerd and Jock arose in the USA? Capitalist countries know they need to create "bitter smart" people. Why? You are smart, but you've been made to hate your fellow man. You have been prepared by the media to accept the suffering of others, and thus benefit lower human rights for certain groups. The Capitalist system has been successful, because you're here, you've been dehumanized and because you will disagree with my words." I am not an Anarcho ...

Lou Dobbs: 6/19/2008 Bill Tucker reports that there are more H-1B visas issued than jobs created. That means American workers are being denied jobs. We Shop, Who Pays? (part 1/3)

Full playlist: www.youtube.com A 2003 documentary about Western companies producing clothes and shoes in developing countries. It is a film about the problems with very low wages, child labor and environmental pollution, and about what can be done to solve these problems. We visit factories in India and talk to suppliers, laborers, NGOs, and farmers who give their point of view. Do western companies take any responsibility? Leaders for H&M and other big Swedish companies answer the question. 'We Shop - Who Pays?' has been produced by the Swedish Fair Trade Centre. The film spotlights Swedish fashion companies, H&M in particular, but the practices' shown in the film are common throughout the fashion industry. This film focuses on Tirupur in South India but unlike other resources so far available, it features the region's shoe industry as well as going back up the production chain to examine the impact of dyeing processes on the local environment. It tells of chemicals used which are banned in Europe, of child laborers who do not drink water during the day because there are not enough toilets for their use. Of 16 to 19 years old who sleep on site so they can work two shifts a day. Of the water which has to be brought in every day as the local water sources are unfit for human consumption, and of land contaminated by the dyeing industry for which farmers have not been compensated. All the Qantas workers fearful for their jobs. Please head to the Centrelink lines. 'cause after the takeover you're over. Now only foreign girls can shag Ray Feines. Dubai labour camp - Sonapur

Sonapur is a labour camp on the outskirts of Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The name Sonapur is Hindi and means "place of gold". It could not be further from the truth. Whilst the middle and upper classes in Dubai enjoy a life of wealth and well-being, the workers who live in labour camps like Sonapur suffer under, what some call "modern slavery". They are being brought to Dubai by agencies who sponsor them and give them a working permit. In return, each worker has to pay up to 12000 Dhs to his agency. Most workers don't earn more than 4 Dhs an hour. With this they have to pay rent, food, the money the owe to the agency and if they can save a few Dhs, they send them back to their families in India, Pakistan and other asian countries. Meat is a luxury here. Also one bed per person is a luxury to some. Sonapur is one of the "nicer" labour camps. Still it's not a place tourists go to. Hence I had to go there. I want these photographs to give you a first insight into the life and living conditions of these men. They are the ones who build all the big villas, skyscrapers, roads and whatever else needs cheap labour to be built. I sincerely hope my work raises some awareness, as it is awareness that changes peoples views. And it is people who have the power to urge governments to do something to make this world a better place. Thank you for watching!

ALEC Exposed - Prison Labor

90 Second Summaries: Season 2, Episode 21 Spotlight on the States: The Prison Industries Act ALEC model legislation -- introduced nationally in 1995; updated in 2004 Watch this episode of 90 Second Summaries at bit.ly Status: According to the Bureau of Justice Assistance, 37 states and four other jurisdictions have certified PIE programs in place. As of 6/30/2010, 30 of those programs were active. Purpose: Congress created the Prison Industry Enhancement Certification Program (PIECP) with the Justice System Improvement Act of 1979. This program was designed to "establish employment opportunities for inmates that approximate private sector work opportunities", thereby helping them gain skills to find work upon release. PIE provided both a cheap source of labor to participating private companies and an effective way for prison administrators to keep inmates busy while helping defray their cost to the state, but was scantily used by the states until the advent of the Prison Industries Act. For years, the use of prison labor by private companies had been legally barred to prevent unfair competition. Summary: Originally crafted in 1993 by Texas State Rep. Ray Allen, the Prison Industries Act is designed to better incentivize use of prison labor by private companies and more effectively enrich these companies. The PIE program stipulates that inmates must be paid a prevailing market wage, although up to 80 percent of that wage (after taxes) can be diverted to the state to offset ...

Globe against the greedy protests spill worldwide

Protests against economic mismanagement and corporate greed are going global. In addition to the Occupy Wall Street movement sweeping the US, protesters from over 70 European and Asian nations are set to hold co-ordinated mass rallies on October 15. Activists from 78 nations, organizing themselves through the Internet and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, are due to take to the streets on Saturday in a joint effort to protest at the crippling global economic crisis and hold politicians and bankers responsible. "United in one voice, we will let politicians and the financial elites they serve know it is up to us, the people, to decide our future," reads the statement on the website for the upcoming protests, 15october.net "We are not goods in the hands of politicians and bankers, who do not represent us," it adds. According to the organizers, the protests will involve 868 cities in Europe, the United States, South America, Asia and Africa. Protests in the EU are focusing on unemployment and cuts in public services. The situation is particularly acute in debt-stricken countries like Greece where harsh austerity measures are being imposed in exchange for EU and IMF bailouts. RT's correspondent Priya Sridhar, reporting from India, says Asian activists are planning to stage protests in Taipei, Seoul, Jakarta, Hong Kong and even the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. Public Domain Protest Song - Public Domain

If you're mad about how much the banks, transnational corporations (hi Nike and WalMart!) and billionaires have ripped off this country then play these songs. Or better yet, do your own versions. Feel free to change lyrics, melody, whatever. Fifty thousand factories closed in the US in the last to years. Jobs are sent to cheap labor in China, Mexico, and India everyday. Any why? Because corporate powers have bought our government and lowered trade tariffs, given loop holes for building factories overseas and cut taxes for the super rich. So they get rich and we get no jobs, no tax revenue, and no middle class. People must wake up and pay attention to what their elected officials are doing and then stop voting for the ones who sell out America. This isn't left or right. Its up and down. So pick up a guitar, turn table, or plug in an iPod and play these songs loud as hell. For more info, go to: www.PublicDomainProtestSong.com
