17 august 2011. A rutine police operation at Christiania in Denmark went wrong, and a angry mob attacked the police, the undercover officers who was there, felt that they where so much in danger that the fired off 2 warning shots and teargas. Soon after, police in riot gear showed up and a starting clearing the place (Christiania) out with huge amounts of teargas while being bombarded with rocks, bottels and all kind of things. I live 5 min. from the place, and i have this strange urge to try and get "dangerous" shots, both stills and video. So i went over there to document what was happening. This is what i got - and all material is copyright so dont F*cking use it! ;) And i do not sympathize with neither the police nor the guys throwing rocks at them, im just a guy with a camera standing in the middel.

Christiania is also Denmark's 2nd most popular tourist attraction. It all began in 1971, when several hundred Vietnam War /environmental protesters, homeless youth and students -- seeking shelter from the storm of a tiny nation of great paradox in wealth -- squatted an 85-acre abandoned naval station between two canals in the heart of the Christianshavn borough of Copenhagen. Christianshavn is one of the places that King Christian IV beautified in the 16th century, modeling the architecture after seeing Amsterdam. It is now worth $billions. From out of the creative genius of the original settlers and those that would come later, military barracks were remodeled, homes were built from out of scrap, families who listened to the sound of another drummer nurtured children forth, and an egalitarian principle of no one having any special power succeeded in surviving 40 years of hot political debate and police efforts to normalize the community, or evict them. Or at least to stop the illegal but open marijuana/hash market in what¨s called, Pusher Street. This section - mostly filmed on August 3, 2011 - begins at Copenhagen City Hall Plaza (Rådhuspladsen) and meanders by bicycle into the heart of Freetown Christiania, often considered a natural <b>...</b>

Chistiania is known as a "freetown" or really a hippie commune in the middle of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is a self-sustaining, autonomous village of about 800 residents, and its ruled under their own law, Christiania Law. Their economy looked like it was made up of a few restaurants, small shops, and bars. They also sell ganja openly and brew their own beer. All hard drugs have also been banned from the area for obvious reasons. They have schools for their children and incredibly their land is literally right on the water. Citizens of Christiania pay taxes for water, electricity and trash disposal. The future of the area remains in doubt, though, as Danish authorities continue to push for its removal.So far it's been going strong for 40 years! and is still open and people are still relaxing in the chilled out danish atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit. If you do go, you'll notice that they are very adamant about "no fotos!!!" which is why I opted for a vid obv. Enjoy.

Forty years on the inhabitants of the Free State of Christiania have to make a choice: either they buy their properties or they abandon the legendary hippie republic.Denmark's highest court has awarded the state the complete right of use of the land. In 1971 thousands of young Danes squatted the abandoned barracks in the Christianshavn district and turned it into a center of alternative lifestyle. But recently the community has faced accusations of organized criminality. Police drug raids in an area notorious as pusher street led to clashes between officers and the squatters.

It is not to be confused with the British musical project also known as Lazyboy, which consists of Dan Carey and Rob da Bank. It uses spoken word trivia, self-help advice, voices of people on the street and criticism of modern society set to hip hop-esque beats in a style dubbed "Rhythm'n'Speak" by the creators. The album Lazyboy TV debuted in 2004 and received some initial airplay with the video for "Facts of Life". The single release of "Underwear Goes Inside the Pants" made a name for Lazyboy, charting at #5 in Australia and topping the iTunes download chart. However both the second single "Inhale Positivity" and the Lazyboy TV album missed the charts internationally. In 2006 it was announced the project would change its name to Lazy B for the impending UK release in July, following an agreement with furniture manufacturer La-Z-Boy "to end any confusion between music and chairs". According to the official site, Lazy B was commissioned to produce a piece for the Royal Danish Ballet to commence in Copenhagen in March of 2007. The project has now presumably ceased.

After a long day of demonstrations against the Canadian Tar Sands, and the issues of climate change and migration activists have been tear-gassed and arrested by police while attending an evening party. The police appear to be trying to wear down street-level opposition through constant offensive action against activists. Today, 15th, the Legal Team have confirmed the number of arrests as 196, and that most of the arrested had been released during the night. In the early evening Naomi Klein addressed a Reclaim Power party in Christiania. Later in the evening, in unclear circumstances, the police arrived and barricades were built just outside the entrance of Christiania. After a small number of people threw bottles at police, tear gas was fired and the police began entering Christiania.
