Today we unbox, test, and review the Google Chrome OS running on unbranded reference hardware known as the cr-48. Takeaways: fast, fast, fast... but slow in some places (web cam, watching videos, certain web pages). Battery exceeds expectations. Rugged (took a 3-ft fall on hardwood floor and barely got a scratch). CAPS LOCK key replaced by a New Tab key is the best innovation to come to the keyboard in, well, EVER. A great first start. Google début two new netbooks that will be coming with Chrome OS the Samsung Series 5 and the Acer Chromebook. Both models pack a Intel Atom Dual core processor, wi-fi and Wi-fi + 3G models and HD webcams. The Samsung is coming from more of the style side with a 12.1 inch screen with a 1280 x 800 resolution, sleeker look at 8.5 hours of battery life. The Acer comes in a bit smaller with an 11.6 inch screen and 6.5 hours of battery life. The Series 5 will be $429.99 for the Wi-Fi version and $499 for the Wi-Fi + 3G model. A bit on the pricey side there however the Acer comes in at $349 for the Wi-Fi model and no price yet on the Wi-Fi + 3G but it will be available for preorder the same day that the others launched with is June 15 with the Samsung Series 5 available at Best Buy and Amazon and the Acer Chromebook available at Amazon.com. There is also a new creative way Google will be selling their Chromebooks to businesses and students. They are going HaaS or Hardware As A Service. With a monthly subscription you will get the Chromebook, all software updates, management tools and future hardware upgrades automatically.
