its been quite a while since my last video, and last night I finally got my new camera! I'm sorry that this video is so short, I really don't know how to use this new camera yet, but I just had to get something up to let all of you know that more vids will be coming once again! As you can see, almost EVERYTHING has changed since my last vid. I converted this tank into an african cichlid tank with mostly mbuna species and a few peacocks. However, you still see the firmilair faces of the blood parrot cichlid and my female firemouth cichlid...i know they shouldn't really be with the africans but i just couldnt let them go. Everyone in the house loves those two and they're probably the oldest fish in the tank, and so far they are having no problems with the africans! The PH in the water is currently at 8.0 which is great for the africans, but not so high that the non-africans can't handle it. Everyone has adapted well and I havn't any disease or sick fish! The filtration system is still the same as always, which is Two Marineland Emperor 400 Bio-wheels power filters. In totaly, they filter 800 gallons per hour, and i do weekly water changes and gravel vacs. the stocking list is as follows: AFRICAN MALAWI -2 Aulonocara Peacock cichlids -9 Yellow Labs (labidochromis caeruleus) -3 Cobalt Blue Cichlids (metriaclima callianos) -1 Melanochromis Interruptus -1 Albino Socolofi Cichlid (pseudotropheus socolofi) -1 Albino Zebra cichlid (metriaclima estherae) -1 Yellow Tail Acei <b>...</b>

Generally commercial cichlid foods will be labeled as premium, color enhancing, or gold formula. While it sounds promising, in my experience these are just marketing schemes. Commercial foods are more then likely stretched using corn, wheat, soy, potatoes and so forth, with little, if any nutritional value. It is unfortunate because Cichlids can only digest select plant proteins such as algae, aquatic plants and some leafy greens, cichlids generally can't digest or hangle all plant proteins. So by adding fillers or stretchers like potatoes or corn, your cichlids are eating more to get the nutrients they need, in turn excreting more waste into you tank. Some things that I wouldnt even eat let alone feed to my fish are often times found in your commercial food, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Chloride, Cobalt Sulfate, Aluminum Sulfate and loads of artificial coloring and preservatives! Might as well be feeding them Mcdonalds. Did you know -Sulfates, Chlorides, Copper and Aluminum have all been proven toxic to aquatic life. Now why would it be in their food? -Anywhere from 5%-40% Ash, yes ASH (burnt food and animal left overs) can be found in even the high end foods! Why? Fillers, cheap fillers to ensure you get more and the company spends less. The Proof is in my tank, you all see my fish, and the colors they exude, may I remind you that 90% of them are still in a juvenile stage as well. The reason they have vibrant color, is fresh food loaded with <b>...</b>

Aquarium: 310 gallon custom in-wall tank dividing my office and movie room. Set up in 2008. Equipment: Hagen retro fit T5 light kits, Aqua Ultraviolet 40W UV sterilizer, JBJ 1000W heater, Reef Flo Dart in-line circulation pump. Filtration: Custom Ocean Mark acrylic sump. Testing & H2O Parameters: Aquarium Pharmaceuticals nitrate and pH done monthly. pH maintained at 8.0, specific gravity 1.0005, nitrates 40 mg/l or less. Maintenance & Supplements: 25% water change performed monthly by siphoning sand to remove detritus. Tap water is all I use for top off water and water changes. SeaChems Malawi Buffer to maintain pH, and evaporated sea salt purchased at Lowes to maintain GH. All supplements are added monthly during water change. Fish: From all three African great lakes. Mostly from Malawi, some from Tanganyika, and one Obliquiden from Victoria. My fav is Blimpie my Green Spotted Puffer who eats out of my hand. Décor: 120 lbs Caribsea Tahitian Moon Black Sand which is volcanic sand and will not affect your pH, Red Spider Wood, 200lbs of Lace Rock, several plastic plants from Instant Oceans Fancy Plant series, and a several accent Mexican Beach Stones.

Massive cleaning is redused as cleaning is make simple. Submersible bilogical filter helps to maintain clear water. Air in top tank is to create water current. Partial change of water, removing of unwanted particle if require is carried out in the bottom tank that include feeding. Opening outlet at bottom of toptank allow fish to move from top to bottom without restriction. Waterfall in lower tank provide extra oxygenation. As this is a CLOSED SYSTEM air in top tank is automitically replenished to replace lost oxygen. I caught these two spawning right after a water change. The female Red Zebra and the male Yellow Lab are about a year apart in age and have been in the tank together for only 1 month. The Red Zebra is very young so it will be interesting if the fry survive. Any tips?? Please Comment!

This is my 55 gallon fish tank that i have put a lot of work into. I have 1 snow white socofoli, 2 Labidochromis caeruleus, 2 Labidochromis hongi, 1 red zebra, 1 Tropheus moori, 1 frontosa, 1 turquoise jewel, 2 common plecs (hiding), one syno (hiding), and 3 cichlids unknown that i got from a friend. Tank: Akvastabil Effect-Line 530L. Dimensions are 1600mm (L) X 550mm (W) X 600mm (D) Once I account for the 12mm thick glass, the fact that I don't fill the tank to the top, the 40kg of crushed coral sand and approx 60kg of rock and a foam 3D background, I estimate the true tank volume to be in between 390-410 Litres. Filtration is via a Fluval FX5 Canister. Top tray is packed with a bag of crushed coral, middle tray is Seachem Matrix & Purigen and the bottom basket is packed with SeaChem Matrix also. Video explaining the needs and methods of care for dwarf cichlids from South America. The fish in this video are much smaller than many of the cichlids commonly kept in tropical fish tanks and most species of South American dwarf cichlids will not exceed 9cm (males). Cichlids below 10cm are generally considered to be dwarf varieties. Although dwarf cichlids are found in a variety of habitats throughout South America, generally speaking most will prefer pH below 7 and soft water to show best colouration and be most content. Bogwood, peat balls, almond leaves, oak leaves and alder cones are natural ways to reduce the pH and soften water in a home aquarium. All of these natural treatments may stain the water a light brown, which adds to the authentic look of an 'Amazon tank'. Most of the South American dwarf cichlids will use caves to breed in but some (including blue ram) are classed as 'open spawners' and prefer to lay their eggs on curled up leaves eg almond or oak in an aquarium. Almond and oak leaves have natural anti fungal and anti bacterial properties which leach out into the water, protecting the eggs and help to acheive a better hatch rate. A good dwarf cichlid aquarium set-up would generally include a sand substrate, bogwood and plants. Natural tankmates include corydoras, tetra species, small plec species (and angelfish or discus in a large tank). well, here is what i do.... when i first notice the female holding, i write down the date. i don't take her out of the main tank because when you re-introduce her to the main tank, she has lost her place in the pecking order and could get beat up pretty bad or killed (this has happened to me). i wait about 18 days from the day i noticed her holding and then i strip her. to strip her, i net her out, and place her in a breeding box. i grab her in my hand really gently (you don't want to sqeeze her gills or her eyes... the eyes are really sensitive) but you want to hold her firmly enough so she can't escape from your grip. i then use the curved end of an unfolded paper clip to pry her mouth open and release the fry into the breeder box. make sure to get all the fry out (sometimes it seems that they are all out but they are not. to make sure, i hold her mouth open and look down inside it to be positive. if you don't get them all out, she will continue to hold the fry she has left over and still won't be eating. she could end up holding them long enough to starve to death (this has happened to me although unlikely). i will strip a female tonight and record it and post on my channel so you can see it for yourself. thanks for inquiring and feel free to ask any other questions. i have no problem giving advice on fish breeding. adam and kristi

My 5" Male Green Terror and my 4" Male Jack Dempsey in their 75 gallon tank with 2 convict cichlids, a synodontis Ocellifer Catfish, and a Yellow Lab cichlid left over from my Malawi tank. One thing to note is for whatever reason, my camera cant seem to show the true color of my fish...ive tried so many different settings that look great but when i transfer them onto the computer they always look dark and boring...so picture this fish as twice as vibrantly colored as they appear in this video =)

This is my 300l (ca. 75 gal.) malawi tank with fishes / cichlids / mbuna from lake Malawi, east africa. My Malawi tank / aquarium is decorated only with rocks, this is necessary because mbuna from lake malawi are rock dwelling cichlids. Mbuna like rocks, caves and sand, so the malawi tank has to be decorated with huge stones. They are quite agressive and territoral at times but belong to the most beautiful and colorful sweetwater fishes. In my Malawi tank, i keep Labeotropheus trewavasae, Tropheops Macrophtalmus, Pseudotropheus Saulosi, Maylandia Estherae, Labidochromis Hongi and Labidochromis caeruleus (Yellow). Especially the Labeotropheus and Tropheops are mbuna / mbunas that look very good and show interesting behaviour. Tropheops macrophthalmus is the only mbuna / cichlid / fish in my malawi tank that has got a name. And no, its not nemo! I call him "Saddam" because he is sometimes a little tyrant!
