M1 Garand from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Field Grade Rifle .30-06

Survival Doc receives his Field Grade M1 Garand from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP.) General George S. Patton called the M1 Garand "the greatest battle implement ever devised." The M1 Garand was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued to the infantry of any nation. It was the standard service rifle of the United States Armed Forces from 1936 until 1957, when it was replaced by the M14. However, the M1 Garand continued to be used in large numbers until 1963, and to a lesser extent until 1966 (when it was replaced by the M14. The M14 was replaced by the M16 rifle in 1970.) John Garand, a Canadian, was the designer of the M1 Garand. It is now available for American civilian ownership through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP.) The M1 was used heavily by US forces in World War II, the Korean War, and to a lesser extent in the Vietnam War. Most M1 rifles were issued to Army and Marine troops, although many thousands were also lent or provided as foreign aid to America's allies. Currently South Korea has one million M1 rifles that it wants to return to the US but the gun-grabbing Obama administration is blocking the re-entry of these pieces of American history. To order from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (thecmp.org) you must be a US citizen who has proof of citizenship, age, membership in a CMP-affiliated club and certificate proving competitive shooting participation. M1 Garand CMP Collector Grade First Look

A first look at the M1 Garand classified as "Collector Grade" by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. It was manufactured in 1955 at the Springfield Armory, all original and correct parts. These are offered occasionally for sale by the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Springfield Armory stopped manufacturing these in 1957.

Daisy Avanti Powerline 853 Target Pellet Rifle from CMP

CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) is running a special on the Daisy 853 rifle. These are quality 10 meter target rifles, they feature an adjustable stock and a Lothar Walther 1:12 right hand twist target barrel. They come with a 5899 adjustable aperture sight and a sling. Maximum range is 275 meters, 510 FPS, single shot, .177" pellets. My rifle also came with a package of replacement gaskets. Overall a good value for people looking for an indoor target air rifle. Price from the Civilian Marksmanship Program is $100 plus shipping. Normally these sell for around $300 dollars. These are available at the CMP stores (both north and south) or via mail-order/fax. They are not available on the E-store, and as a bonus you do not need to have your order notarized since this is an air rifle.

Remington Bulk 22LR From the CMP Field Test

I was able to sneak away to the indoor range today to try out both the new fiber optic front sight on my Ruger MKIII 22/45 and the Remington 22lr bulk ammo I recently picked up from the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The CMP ammo was better than I expected. Initial thoughts are this will be a good plinking round, and is slightly better than average quality for bulk ammo (compared to federal 525 packs from Walmart). All 100 rounds fed into the 22/45 without issue, and I experienced no misfires, etc. The only anomaly was a keyhole I experienced with my first round of the second string (seen in this video). I totally am in love with the fiber optic front sight on the 22/45. Can't wait to shoot it outdoors for the full effect.

My first CMP match!

The trollprepper joined a local gun club, and jumped right in! The CMP is the Civilian Marksmanship Program, once run by the military.. is now a private not for profit entity self administered. They hold many regional shooting events, locally sponsored by local gun clubs. If you ever wanted to do some competitive shooting, but didn't think you were good enough, think again! You don't have to be any good to be welcomed at one of these events, you just have to be willing and able to follow club rules, range rules... and be ready to have fun! Great Fun! Stage 1: 5 shots sighting in. 5 minutes Stage 2: 20 shots prone. 20 minutes Stage 3: 10 shots rapid fire prone from standing start. 80 seconds Stage 4: 10 shots rapid fire sitting/kneeling from standing start. 80 seconds Stage 5: 10 shots standing, 10 minutes. I recorded this well over a month ago, but just got around to reducing the over an hour of footage to a watchable length... I can't wait for the next one... I'm much much better now at the standing offhand shooting.

Unboxing M2 30-06 HXP M1 Garand Ammo from the CMP

HXP 30-06 is surplus military ammunition from Greece. Manufactured from the 1960's -- early 1980's, this is the best deal in M1 Garand safe ammo around. HXP's boxer primed cases are excellent quality and can be easily reloaded with a better quality match bullet vs. the lead core 150 grain copper jacketed bullet. I have fed my Service Grade H&R Garand over 600 rounds of HXP without a single failure. Many of these cases have been reloaded without issue as well. There is a lot of chatter around on various message boards asking what the current stock of loose 200 round ammo cans of HXP the Civilian Marksmanship Program is selling looks like. As this is delinked machine gum ammo, there is some extra tarnishing on the cases from the cloth belts, but the ammo is still very usable.

M1 Garands with Tracers!

If you've ever wanted to own a piece of history, a M1 Garand is a rifle that proved its worth through WW2, Korea and beyond. If you've ever wanted one of these rifles, this is a great way to do it. The RWVA is a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) affiliated organization. RWVA Membership dues are $20/year and this along with attending an Appleseed event fulfills two of the requirements to purchase rifles directly from the CMP and drastically reduced prices. www.thecmp.org Project Appleseed teaches the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and intertwines these skills with the history and heritage of our great nation. Rifle skills are becoming a lost art in modern America, but we feel that they are as important today as they were on April 19th, 1775 when the first shots were fired on Lexington Green. http

M1 Garand Behind the Scenes by Nutnfancy

I just threw this vid together tonight to show some behind the scenes work on what it takes to make a TNP Tabletop review. On an epic gun like the M1 Garand, I put in A LOT of work to make it right...getting it to a point where I'm happy with the footage. Here TacticalDoodle and myself find another epic place to engage the enemy: steel and paper with a SA WW II M1 and HRA Correct Grade CMP M1. I was pretty sick that day but I wanted to get the shoot done and spend some time with my son shooting these historic guns. I show our run set up, we talk some about the guns and ammo, we show one of my runs in completion, and I think there's a fart in there somewhere too. Watch me slip on the snow as I approach the close in bad gun and still light him up and do a reload. Keep fighting! More footage of this shoot to be seen in M1 Garand review series. CMP M1 Garand at Project Appleseed: Sherburne, Louisiana

If you've ever wanted to own an authentic piece of American history, this is a great way to do it. The Revolutionary War Veterans Association (RWVA) is a Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) affiliated organization. RWVA Membership dues are $20/year. This along with attending an Appleseed event fulfills two of the requirements to purchase rifles directly from the CMP at drastically reduced prices. www.thecmp.org Project Appleseed is the sole focucs and activity of the RWVA, a non-profit 501(3)c organization. Weekend events, Boot Camps, and the coordination necessary to make them happen are all conducted by proud volunteers. We are passionate about ensuring that the Rifleman legacy is passed down to the generations of Americans that follow. Appleseed teaches the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship and intertwines these skills with the history and heritage of our great nation. Rifle skills are becoming a lost art in modern America, but we feel that they are as important today as they were on April 19th, 1775 when the first shots were fired on Lexington Green. http Discover your Heritage & Continue the Legacy. M1 Garand 1st Person Shooter by Nutnfancy

Veri always tells me I have lots of video footage that never gets seen. This is true. As projects scream along some is forgotten or I change that project and take a different direction. Here's some of it, probably boring again. Raw 1st person video footage of the M1 Garand testing that happened in the winter of 2012 giving insight to the test phase and difficulty of the shooting protocol I used. Cameras are the GoPro Hero2 and Contour HDI don't always use these and find managing the additional footage cumbersome and sometimes it doesn't add a lot to the shoot. As such I still rely on 2nd person filming for better audio and visual fluidity. Both cameras in their current versions do poorly in overcast or dark conditions too; I suspect future versions will have more adaptive apertures. Shooters are myself, BuggetNuster, TacticalDoodle, and Mrs Nutnfancy in a cameo appearance. Guns are Springfield Armory and HRA Garands. Shooting the 10" plate was particularly tough.////////////////Limited Edition(50 worldwide from "Arctic Ops" and "Lion Heart" shoots) signed and numbered Nutnfancy fired shell M1 Garand casings at WWW.NUTNFANCY.BIGCARTEL.COM

A quick look my my 1944 Inland .30 Cal M1 Carbine. This rifle has many early features, including a Winchester trigger group with push safety and it's original barrel. This is a really fun, low recoil gun to shoot. Pardon my stuffy nose, allergy season is starting early this year!

The Mosin Minute - Episode 86: Shooting the M-1 Garand at Quail Creek Gun Range 3-5-11

Here's the 2nd of 3 videos made from the Quail Creek Shooting Range, way out north and west of the DFW area. As I mentioned in my last video, this is a fairly new range, one closer to my friend's hacienda than mine. But it's very nice, clean, and the facilities are top notch. They have cease-fires every 15 minutes OR at the shooter's request (if there aren't many folks around you on your set of lanes). This time, we both shoot the fabled M-1 Garand, this one made at the Springfield Armory in 1943. It's a Service Grade M-1 from the CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program), and it's probably the best shooting gun in my cabinet. To be fair, the barrel is like-new after the CMP refurbishes these beauties, so IF I were to compare this to a like-new K98 or Lee Enfield, it's hard to say if this would ultimately shoot better...but those type of pristine surplus firearms are so rare now that such an apples-to-apples comparison really isn't feasible nowadays. This was the first time my friend shot the M-1 Garand, and his experience with it was similar to mine...it's a pleasure to shoot compared to the WASR-10 or Mosin Nagant, and ergonomically, it's was designed with the shooter in mind. He had some decent groupings given the high wind, but I had some killer 1-2 inch groups. Guys at the range were high-fiving me on these targets (which they seemed to think was impressive without a scope...not sure what kind of regulars are at this range, but I guess if that's new to them, I still look ...
