Civilian deaths in Libya: Who's killing who?

The no-fly zone over Libya remains in force as NATO and former rebels back the new leadership's push into the few remaining Gadaffi enclaves. Alliance airstrikes reportedly hit residential buildings in the town of Sirte, but the countries that were quick to condemn attacks by the Colonel's troops back in March, seem to have gone silent. Libyan regime claims civilian deaths

At a coastal graveyard, Al Jazeera witnessed what the Libyan government claimed was a burial for those who had died across Tripoli, the capital, during the previous night's air strikes. A crowd of around 1500 people gathered to mourn the dead and criticise the international community - France in particular - for their UN-sanctioned campaign against Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and his military. But the details were confusing: Despite the presence of 33 coffins, funeral organisers said only 18 bodies were buried, and the graves had been dug days earlier - for a funeral already held on Sunday. Whether coalition air strikes have killed and injured soldiers or civilians remains unknown. Al Jazeera's Anita McNaught reports from Tripoli.

US is lying about civilian deaths from its drone attacks in Pakistan

US drone strikes in Pakistan have risen from one a year in 2004 to one every four days under President Obama. There have been no civilian deaths from US drone attacks in Pakistan since August 2010, says the US. They must know this is a lie. As this BBC Newsnight report makes clear, at least 100 have been killed, many of them women and children. The use of pilotless drones has increased dramatically under Nobel Peace Prize winner Barack Obama's presidency, more than doubling George Bush's record.

Turkey vows no cover-up over civilian air strike deaths

www.euronews.net The Turkish government has promised no cover-up in an investigation into the deaths of 35 civilians, killed by warplanes after being mistaken for Kurdish militants. The incident sparked clashes with police in Istanbul as pro-Kurdish demonstrators vented their anger. The ruling AK party says there was intelligence indicating an attack by PKK activists in the area but now claims the victims were mostly cigarette smugglers. On the streets of Istanbul, some people were saddened by what happened but stopped short of criticising the military.

'US army leave ASAP to stop civilian deaths in Afghanistan'

In northern Afghanistan, over a thousand people have joined a protest to demand foreign troops get out of the country. The rally in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif was sparked by a NATO raid on a market in which two local security guards were killed. The demonstrators insist the two posed no threat, but the Alliance says they were shot after refusing to put down their weapons. It has added to the growing anger over the number of civilian deaths in the country. Just on Friday, NATO accepted blame for accidentally killing 6 civilians in eastern Afghanistan. Collateral Murder - Wikileaks - Iraq

Wikileaks has obtained and decrypted this previously unreleased video footage from a US Apache helicopter in 2007. It shows Reuters journalist Namir Noor-Eldeen, driver Saeed Chmagh, and several others as the Apache shoots and kills them in a public square in Eastern Baghdad. They are apparently assumed to be insurgents. After the initial shooting, an unarmed group of adults and children in a minivan arrives on the scene and attempts to transport the wounded. They are fired upon as well. The official statement on this incident initially listed all adults as insurgents and claimed the US military did not know how the deaths ocurred. Wikileaks released this video with transcripts and a package of supporting documents on April 5th 2010 on collateralmurder.com

If the US has not been able to bring security to Afghanistan in almost a decade of being there, then what is the purpose of Washington remaining there? As more body bags return to the States, an increased number of Americans are demanding an end to the war. The new US Secretary of Defense's responded to the fatal day for his soldiers by saying the United States will stay the course in Afghanistan.

NATO Forces in Afghanistan Can't Deny They Killed Civilians in Sangin Anymore

bit.ly For weeks, US and allied forces in Afghanistan have denied they killed several dozen civilians in Sangin District of Helmand Province on July 23. But our new video exposes the truth about one of the worst civilian casualty incidents of the war. Watch our exclusive interviews with survivors and demand that your elected officials act to prevent future catastrophes like this. rethinkafghanistan.com First, NATO denied knowing anything about the incident. Then, they said only six people were killed and that most of them were insurgents. They can't deny it anymore. http Working with a brave team in Afghanistan headed by Anita, Brave New Foundation's Rethink Afghanistan project sent an intrepid local blogger into Sangin District of Helmand Province--one of the most dangerous areas of the country. He brought back extraordinary first-person accounts from survivors of the Sangin catastrophe. Thanks to his work, there's no doubt anymore: as many as 52 people were killed by a rocket fired by NATO forces. Survivors tell of a scene of absolute carnage and despair, and when the smoke cleared, according to one local, "They [NATO] did nothing and afterwards they said nothing, just like nothing ever happened." Wings of Death: US builds global drone base net

Relations between the US and Pakistan have hit a new low, after a top American military chief accused Pakistan's Intelligence service of supporting a group behind last week's attack on the American Embassy in Kabul. Islamabad has strongly denied the claims. One of the stumbling blocks in US- Pakistan relations is that American drone attacks on al-Qaeda operatives on Pakistani territory continually resulted in civilian deaths. However, the US military considers them so effective that it is building a number of new drone bases in Horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula. But as RT's Gayane Chichakyan reports, this policy has caught America in a vicious circle. RT on Twitter: twitter.com RT on Facebook: www.facebook.com

Russia is Finally Awakening to a Real NATO Threat

UNITED NATIONS (AP) -- Russia urged the UN Security Council on Thursday to investigate civilian deaths in Libya from NATO's bombing campaign, a move the United States immediately dismissed as "a cheap stunt" to distract from Moscow's failure to condemn the Syrian government's ongoing killing of protesters. The sharp exchange reflected the deep division in the council over the NATO campaign which the US, France, Germany and others hailed for saving hundreds of thousands of Libyan lives, but which Russia, China and the African Union have strongly criticized. Russia and its supporters argue that NATO misused the limited council resolution imposing a no-fly zone and authorizing the protection of civilians as a pretext to promote regime change in Libya. Libya's longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi was ousted after 42 years, captured and killed in October. Russia's UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin said a council-mandated investigation is essential "given the fact that initially we were led to believe by NATO leaders there are zero civilian casualties of their bombing campaign." US Ambassador Susan Rice, who stepped to the microphone after Churkin, said: "Oh, the bombast and bogus claims." "Is everyone sufficiently distracted from Syria now and the killing that is happening before our very eyes?" she said. "I think it's not an exaggeration to say that this is something of a cheap stunt to divert attention from other issues and to obscure the success of NATO and its partners - and ...

Iraq's Secret War Files - Dispatches - Part 1/4 -

In the biggest official files leak in history nearly 400000 Iraq war logs reveal the massive scale of civilian deaths and new torture allegations following an investigation by Channel 4′s Dispatches. Channel 4 News has accessed the data in the classified documents via The Bureau of Investigative Journalism and WikiLeaks. The only TV doc to have advance access to the biggest Wikileaks release ever. This is what really happened during the Iraq war, not what the US PR machine of the time wanted us to believe. The reality behind the civilian death count; al-Qaeda's fictitious presence; torture, torture and more torture. A wall of truth revealing unprecedented levels of unwarranted aggression. Dispatches, Channel 4′s flagship current affairs strand, exposes the full and unreported horror of the Iraqi conflict and its aftermath, revealing the true scale of civilian casualties and allegations that even after the scandal of Abu Ghraib, American soldiers continued to abuse prisoners. And that US forces did not systematically intervene in the torture and murder of detainees by the Iraqi security services. The programme also features previously unreported material of insurgents being killed while trying to surrender.

Libya: Gaddafi's son Saif holds Western secrets.....[Release the secrets]

From: Russia Today Secrets not Saif: Death penalty threat for Gaddafi's son Published: 24 November, 2011, 10:31 After Colonel Gaddafi's battlefield execution last month, there had been hopes his captured son Saif Al-Islam would receive a fair trial. However, there are powerful figures in the West who could influence the course of justice. Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi is a man with a lot to say. He is the last chance the world has to find out how the Gaddafi regime went from Public Enemy No 1 to bosom buddies with Britain and other Western powers. The International Criminal Court in The Hague says it is not going to call for his extradition, instead allowing Libya to try him on home soil. His future might indeed be bleak in the hands of Libya's new rulers. Libyan officials are already calling for the death penalty in what many fear is a tactic to keep those dirty secrets hidden forever. Political analyst William Engdahl told RT believes matters have been arranged so that "the information about the relationships that Gaddafi and the CIA [had] over decades will not come out." He believes Western powers are notoriously dedicated to protecting their secrets. "Look at what happened to the trial of Milosevic," he said. rt.com ......................................................................... USA Plans to Veto Palestinian Freedom To Please the Zionist Masters ? A Short story.

How low can our Corrupt politicians go ? The Land of the Free Plans to veto Palestinian Statehood in UN just to please the Zionist Masters, no matter what the cost is ? Even their Barbaric and illegal occupation is acceptable to the Criminals of USA ? Corrupt Zionist Bankers, Media, Politicians chip in to stop the Freedom of Palestine. Approximately 1.5 million Palestinian civilians have been murdered since 1948, including the victims of the ethnic cleansing campaigns in the west in 1948-50 and in the east since 1967. Civilian deaths have escalated dramatically in recent years since the zionists developed their obsession with the Palestinian birth-rate, and children are often the target. There is only a small fine for killing a Palestinian in cold blood. It's based on a weapons charge, not murder. To understand the genocidal character of this vile regime, one need only glance at the responses from zionists; at least half advocate or at least imply approval of the killing of non-jews. Adocating genocide is by the way a reportable offence on Y/A. Aproximately 2000 civilian Palestinians are killed each year. If you are jewish and you shoot an 8-year-old Palestinian girl in cold blood, you will have your weapons license revoked for three months and pay a fine equivalent to 50-100 dollars US It's considered by the "government'" to be more or less the same thing as shooting squirrals within city limits with a .22. would be in America. Very little information is available about the effects of drone warfare, especially the strikes ordered by the CIA -- and Pakistan, the main target for US covert drone strikes, poses a whole new set of questions about civilian casualties and drone attacks strategies. Yemen's government says dozens of people have been killed in US drone attacks in the country over the last few weeks, many of them civilians. The Hiroshima and Nagasaki film they didn't want us to see

The film Hiroshima-Nagasaki 1945 was created in 1968 from Japanese footage that the US Defense Department had kept hidden for over 20 years. The filmmaker Erik Barnouw offered his 16 minute film to all the US main channels. None of them showed it. Why is obvious when looking at this three minute excert. The atom bombs dropped by the US on those Japenese cities served no military purpose, as the Japanese were already suing for peace. President Truman, who ordered the bombs to be dropped, lied to the American people when he said that the atom bombs had saved lives and there were few civilian deaths. Up to 200000 were killed. Seeing the barbarous effect of these weapons, did our political and military leaders decide to rid the world of them? Far from it. Today's nuclear weapons make the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs look like water pistols in comparison, and there are enough of them to destroy not just cities but the whole world. And who has most of these weapons of mass destruction? The only country to ever use them -- the United States.
