Houston Police Testing Unmanned Drone
www.theytoldyou.com Note: Apparently this is an old story from November, 2007, though it first came to my attention the day I posted the video. Here's a link to the original story: www.click2houston.com The Houston Police wanted to keep the tests secret, but the local NBC affiliate KPRC was able to capture footage of the launch of the aircraft and track it using their news helicopter. Police helicopter pilots told the KPRC crew that the surrounding airspace was restricted and threatened the pilot with action from the FAA. When the FAA was contacted several times by the KPRC news crew they stated that there was no restriction. HPD, Homeland Security and other guests watched the tests from an area ranch. The entrance of the ranch was blocked by police and the press was not allowed in. The drone is equipped with surveillance hardware including cameras and can stay airborne for 15-24 hours without landing.

I found hundreds of other Cobalt drivers that have had the same problem and had to pay $900-$2500 to repair their car. GM is aware of this problem but has chosen to do nothing about it. Closer look at the police drones coming soon to a city near you
A Houston area law enforcement agency is prepared to launch an unmanned drone that could someday carry weapons, Local 2 Investigates reported Friday. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in Conroe paid $300000 in federal homeland security grant money and Friday it received the ShadowHawk unmanned helicopter made by Vanguard Defense Industries of Spring. A laptop computer is used to control the 50-pound unmanned chopper, and a game-like console is used to aim and zoom a powerful camera and infrared heat-seeking device mounted on the front. "To be in on the ground floor of this is pretty exciting for us here in Montgomery County," Sheriff Tommy Gage said. He said the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) could be used in hunting criminals who are running from police or assessing a scene where SWAT team officers are facing an active shooter. Gage said it will also be deployed for criminal investigations such as drug shipments. "We're not going to use it to be invading somebody's privacy. It'll be used for situations we have with criminals," Gage said. www.click2houston.com
NASA WB-57 over Houston Part 2
Sept. 11, 2010 KPRC Local 2 received dozens of phone calls regarding the plane. The Houston Airport Systems spokes person Marlene McClinton told Local 2, NASA's WB-57 is a high-altitude aircraft, operating over Ellington Field. "It is taking air samples between 45000 and 51000 feet," said McClinton. According to McClinton, this is a normal operation but due to atmospheric conditions, its contrails are extremely visible. Many callers to Local 2 said the plane looks like a big commercial passenger plane with the NASA Logo on it. Officials said it is nothing to be alarmed about. Now he faces felony charges for evading arrest. www.click2houston.com We pulled alongside his vehicle, motioned for him to pull over; he refused," Officer Walter Park Lii said. "He decided to take a U-turn and evade me." The chase quickly went into downtown Houston. Police stopped southbound traffic on state Highway 288 before the fleeing driver exited onto the South Loop westbound to the Southwest Freeway toward downtown. The driver, whose name was not released, frequently drove on the shoulder to avoid traffic and hit a few vehicles. "It was pretty nerve-wracking because when you see them coming down the freeway like that, I thought they were just going to go past me," said Lonnie Hooper, who was hit near the Northwest Freeway and Hempstead Highway. "My first reaction was I was going to maybe go onto the service road to get out of the way, but the officer, as he was squealing and turning, the officer went past him. I couldn't really go forward. I just had to sit there and eat it." The driver occasionally went onto surface streets, but quickly opted to go back to freeways. Police also stopped southbound traffic on the Southwest Freeway when the driver chose that route.
