They also made some trades like getting rid of Charles Smith, Monty Williams to the Spurs for Brad Lohaus, JR Reid & Willie Anderson. Since the all-star break and up until Don Nelson was fired, the knicks were 4-9. He was replaced by assistant coach Jeff Van Gundy. His first debut game in Philly on March 8, the knicks lost 100-92. This game was Van Gundy's 2nd game as NBA head coach. In this game, the Knicks got off to a great beginning by shooting the ball well from the field and playing good defense and after the first period, the Knicks led 31-19. In the second period, the Knicks went up by as many as 17. With about 2 minutes and change left in the 1st half and the bulls scored the last 5 points to cut the Knicks lead to 50-42 going into the half. In the 3rd quarter, the Bulls scored the next 7 points to pul to within 1 (50-49) and the knicks scored 1 point on a technical free throw. Pippen hit a 3-pointer to put the Bulls up 52-51 and they scored again to go up 54-51, which was part of a 17-1 run from the late moments of the 2nd period.
