www.permies.com Ernie Wisner shows off his double chamber cob oven which burns cleaner than a conventional cob oven. The second chamber is what gives the cleaner burn. And your cob oven ends up looking nicer too (not all black in the front). This cob oven uses some of the stuff from rocket mass heaters (or rocket stoves) for a cleaner burn. Ernie explains why this is not a "rocket cob oven". A part that I edited out is where Ernie talked about sitting outside around the fire in a way where people stay warm and enjoy a fire without getting smoke in your face. This video has pictures of other cob ovens and addresses some of the concerns about smoke and wasting of heat. Ernie explains how you start off with a two hour fire and end up with eight hours of cooking starting with pizza, then moving on to breads, roasts, soups, rice, beans and then yogurt and granola which cook at much lower temperatures. Ernies also talks about the quality of bread from a cob oven vs. the quality of bread from a conventional oven. Ernie addresses how he elected to not have a permanent roof over his cob oven. Ernie's friend Kiko Denzer has a book on cob ovens that talks about this technique. This video shows a huge flame coming out of the top. paul wheaton permaculture Music by Jimmy Pardo

This was my first Cob project, which I learned from books, web, talking with others and from just doing it! The clay is from the surrounding area and is generally pure enough without needing to be filtered. The sand is from a local river bed. Normally I would use sharp sand, but there was enough 'bite' to make it usable. The fibre is Vettiver. This was added to the mix as short-chopped pieces (5 to 10 cm) and also as full-length fibres (up to 1 metre long) added during the building process. 'Dry' mix proportions for the cob: Sand 80% Clay 10% Fibre 10% These proportions varied with the different layers, but always mainly sand. www.permies.com Visting the all cob ecovillage "cobville" in coquille, oregon. Including the tour guide Ianto Evans, author of "The Hand Sculpted House" - home of the "cob cottage company". I have never seen so much cob before. Cob homes. Cob ovens. Standalone cob walls. Rocket mass heaters made from cob. Cob benches for sitting and cob workbenches. Cob art. Cob floors. Cob beds. This part of the tour shows off about eight cob homes and the second part shows about four more. One eco building has a cob rumford fireplace that is clear to see. Another has a cob rumford fireplace - but the video does not show it clearly. The video whizzes by a cob oven at one point. Lots of green roofs. There is a good example of a heat trap. Permaculture courses are taught here.

Went to Pickards Mountain in NC near Chapel Hill and took an 8 day workshop on cob cottage building May 2th through 9th. We were building the cob house for Margo, the garden manager who works on Pickard Mountain. Had a great time....wonderful vegetarian food from the organic garden cooked by Megan the owner on site, great people, good instructors, Gregg and Mike; rain and storms, camping in leaky tents and lot's of ticks, escaping goats, a sick pick, fresh eggs from chickens on the farm, sore hands and cut feet, laughter and singing, campfires, popcicles and trips to weaver street in muddy clothes....no, really, really muddy clothes. Thanks everyone for a joyful and special week.

Song: If You Want Peace... Prepare For War Artist: Children Of Bodom Album: Are You Dead Yet Pain ain't even really what you want to be Five feet under seeing your humanity The opportunity to devide The opportunity of being apart! Soon be there, the moon in the sky tonight We're burning on a purified Smash your face and then I beat it down Are we really gonna die? Get up and fight, release your rage, come on and fight Standing straight faced, it is your fate, calling my name Calling me pain, and if you stay, you'll bite the scythe Waiting for you I want to just tell you If you want peace... Prepare for war! Fuck! Get up and fight, release your rage, come on and fight Standing straight faced, it is your fate, calling my name Calling me pain, and if you stay, you'll bite the scythe Waiting for you I want to just tell you (2x) If you want peace... Passive solar design dates back over 2 and a half millennia to the ancient Greeks and Chinese; it not only predates modern HVAC systems, but also modern materials. So it makes sense that earth-built homes would play well with passive solar techniques. In this video, natural building expert Michael G. Smith shows us how they use straw bale to insulate northern walls and cob as a thermal mass on southern surfaces.

www.thiscobhouse.com I see natural building, especially using cob, as a practical solution for our future situation. As we face societal collapse, people are banding together and moving outside the cities to start new lives for themselves. Building a new house out of cob and natural materials is a practical solution for shelter in the coming years. http

Song: Children Of Bodom Artist: Children Of Bodom Album: Hatebreeder In the silence of darkness, among the shadows of the dead we hear a wolf howling hungry to wake up children of the graves Unripe Vengeance! The cult that serves as revenge has put forward it's fangs to declare a fucking WAR Only calmless spirits of corpses are passing by the altars of Bodom where everything but death is a lie To spill your blood to become our wine We'll reborn really where only the wild will survive The clash of wickedness veils Lake Bodom blood red We have gathered our souls to praise the triumph of Death chorus: Children of Bodom angry are rising Running amok, slaying with a sense of desire From the twilight of the past, among the victims who died Something Wild has survived Only calmless spirits of corpses are passing by the altars of Bodom where everything but death is a lie To spill your blood to become our wine We'll reborn reality where only the wild will survive (This is something dark, I find your fears We have gathered our dark souls to embrace the righteous pull of death You'll obey the dark You'll become one of us Traitors) chorus

Quicker than the tarp method and easier on the knees too! I made this method because my knees and ankles are too fragile for the tarp method. The clay came from the subsoil in my back garden and I built a shed with it. Hope muddy and others like it. There is another method to build walls called leicht leim. This one uses just straw and clay. I think the wet straw clay mix is compressed in place into forms and ends up resembling fiberboard. www.networkearth.org has some details (I have seen it but not done light clay)

I've been a pipe smoker since 1978, and I started smoking corn cob pipes in those early days due to their low price. Over the years I spent more and more on briar pipes only to find myself returning to the lowly cob. Fast-forward all these years later and Ive finally come to terms with the fact that I, like Samuel Clemens (AKA Mark Twain) don't care what the snobs say; I'm a proud smoker of corn cob pipes. In this video I'm sharing some of the famous Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipes that my bride and I retail on our web site. You may find cob cottages particularly cute, but taste isn't reason enough to choose one natural building material over another. Like more manufactured products, different earth materials all have different uses: straw bale is a great insulator, cob is a nice thermal sink as well as one of the easiest materials to sculpt if you're looking for lots of curves in your structure. Since different parts of the building need to do different tasks, even in the same building you might choose straw bale for one wall and cob for another. Natural building expert Michael G. Smith shows us some of the uses for straw bale, cob, slip straw and clay wattle (a variation on wattle and daub) in the homes and buildings of Boonville, California's Emerald Earth Sanctuary.
