Colombian Silicone Girls | Car Audio Show 2009

Car audio/video (car AV), mobile audio, 12-volt and other terms are used to describe the sound or video system fitted in an automobile. Such devices aren't necessarily limited to automobiles, and can be used, marketed, or manufactured for marine, aviation, and mass transit (vehicle audio/video). This article focuses on cars as the most common application. At first, speakers from the home audio and professional markets were simply installed into vehicles. However, they were not well suited to the extremes of temperature and vibration which are a normal part of the environment of an automobile. Different manufacturing techniques, and different component materials were used in construction to adapt to these conditions. Car audio competitions started in the early 1980s. The first known occurred in 1981 in Bakersfield, CA and evolved into an annual event, The Summertime Sound Off, which at its height drew upwards of 300 contestants and continued into the 1990s. Like the Summertime Sound Off, some competitions during the 1980s were judged based on sound and installation quality, particularly those hosted in California. But most were simply held to find the loudest and/or most outrageous installations. Perhaps the most well known vehicle of this time was the Wayne Harris modified 1960 Cadillac Hearse; featuring three 24-inch subwoofers as well as eight 12-inch subwoofers. During the late 80s, several interests in the car stereo industry promoted the formation of sanctioning ...

Hilarious Colombian Hand Gestures

mantarayatravel.com - Since I moved to Bogotá I´ve been fascinated by the subtle quirks of Colombian culture. I use my blog to keep track of the astonishing variety of culture, food, nature, music, activities, hotspots and everything else that I love so much about the magical wonderland that is Colombia. The thing that captivates me most about Colombia is its unmatched diversity. Yet despite such tremendous diversity there is one thing that everyone who visits Colombia agrees on; the friendliness and joy of the people is what most makes you want to stay.

Colombia

Colombia, officially the Republic of Colombia, is a constitutional republic in northwestern South America. Colombia is bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil; to the south by Ecuador and Peru; to the north by the Caribbean Sea; to the northwest by Panama; and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. Colombia also shares maritime borders with Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. With a population of over 45 million people, Colombia has the 29th largest population in the world and the second largest in South America, after Brazil. Colombia has the third largest Spanish-speaking population in the world after Mexico and Spain. The territory of what is now Colombia was originally inhabited by indigenous nations including the Muisca, Quimbaya, and Tairona. The Spanish arrived in 1499 and initiated a period of conquest and colonization killing or taking as slaves almost 90% of that native population, and then creating the Viceroyalty of New Granada (comprising modern-day Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, the northwest region of Brazil and Panama) with its capital in Bogotá.Independence from Spain was won in 1819, but by 1830 "Gran Colombia" had collapsed with the secession of Venezuela and Ecuador. What is now Colombia and Panama emerged as the Republic of New Granada. The new nation experimented with federalism as the Granadine Confederation (1858), and then the United States of Colombia (1863), before the Republic of Colombia was finally ...

Fault Lines - Colombia's gold rush

Gold fever is sweeping across South America. Nowhere is it more lethal than in Colombia, where the gold rush has become a new axle in Colombia's civil war. Turf wars are erupting between paramilitaries, and leftist rebel groups fighting to take control of mining regions. It's fueling an old ideological conflict and has displacing hundreds of people. Helicopter raids by the Colombian Army on small community mining collectives have become commonplace, and the Colombian government is accused of targeting poor workers to protect big business interests, and operating with impunity from human rights violations. Thousands have fled their homes where land is violently contested, and others live in fear they'll be removed from their land, arrested, or killed. The multinationals are flooding in too. With gold now worth around $1500 an ounce, everyone is getting in on the act, including North American mining companies. Colombia's pro-business mentality has seen arbitrary concessions by the state sold to multinational companies, often on indigenous land. Fault Lines traveled to Colombia to speak to the people caught in the middle. The rural workers and artisan miners who've mined for generations, and some whose ancestors were enslaved during the first gold rush centuries ago. Others are former coca farmers, put out of work by the US-led Plan Colombia. english.aljazeera.net Follow us on Twitter: twitter.com Follow us on Facebook: facebook.com Follow us on Tumblr: ajfaultlines.tumblr ...

Brainrotting EXTRAS: Scariest Bridge Crossing? Colombian Bridge - Adventure Motorcycling BMW F650GS

This clip was shot in the South of Colombia after four days of torrential rain. I was riding from Tierradentro to San Agustin and had to cross this slippery and swaying bamboo bridge with my bike fully loaded because the regular road bridge had collapsed or washed away. The river water was a matter of inches beneath me, and I wasn't happy about making the crossing but some Colombians at the entrance to the bridge encouraged me to attempt it. I had the foresight to turn my helmet camera on! You can follow my motorcycle adventures at www.brainrotting.com

Colombian coca farmers turn to gold-mining

Cocaine farmers in Colombia are leaving the drug business and moving into illegal gold-mining. Authorities have shut down scores of mines in the northwestern province of Cordoba in a crackdown on illegal mining that started in September. About 400 police took part in the sweep. Communities near the unregulated mines suffer from the "improper use of mercury and other contaminating substances" found in soil and bodies of water, officials said. Al Jazeera's Monica Villamizar reports from Norosi.

El Peñon de Guatape (monolith) - Colombia

El Peñon de Guatape (Spanish for "The Guatape Rock") wrongly called El Peñol Stone (Spanish La Piedra de El Peñol, is a monolithic formation located at the town and municipality of Guatape 1 km inside the city limits (86 km northeast of Medellin) in Antioquia, Colombia. The stone rises from the bottom of the hydroelectric dam of Peñol-Guatape. This monolith was spotted as a border landmark between country farms and the two cities. At its highest part, on the rear (southeast side), it has a height of 2135 m MSL with an average temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. The "Peñon" has 185 m3 of rock mass and it is 385 m long, with an approximate weight of 10000000 tons. It has some rock breaks, one of which was used for the construction of the 644 stairs that can be used to go to the top. The wide Antioquian rock base, called "batólito Antioqueño", and the "Peñon" were formed 70 million years ago. The Tahamies Indians, former habitants of this region, worshiped the rock and called it on their language "mojarrá" o "mujará" (rock or stone). This rock is located in the country area called "La Piedra", just 5 minutes from Guatape Town, and can be reached by an excellent road. The rock was climbed on July 1954. History tells that it was climbed by a group of friends, at the invitation of a local priest. Luis Villegas, Pedro Nel Ramírez and Ramón Díaz climbed the rock in a five-day endeavour, using sticks that were fixed against the rock's wall.[2] On the top of the rock was found a new ...

The Film follows the 10 day Grace Pilgrimage through and around the Colombian capital Bogota in November 2010. It is a portrait of two projects -- Tamera, a peace research centre in Portugal which organized the pilgrimage, and the Colombian peace community San José de Apartadó. It follows the leaders and participants of the two projects as well as the international participants from Israel, Palestine, Germany and other countries and shows the coming together of the two communities, their encounters with other peace activists and groups in the city of Bogota, shanty towns and remote areas, and with government officials to create a network of protection for the peace community in Colombia and to show a possible path toward a global culture of peace in a seemingly hopeless situation.

Colombia pushes FARC to disarm

In the week since the killing of Alfonso Cano, head of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), Colombian authorities continue to push for the disarming of Latin America's oldest armed group. Cano's death is a major coup for Colombia, but FARC remains active in 60 areas of the country with, anywhere between 8000 and 10000 fighters remaining. Before his death, Cano had managed to win consensus among FARC leaders to pursue peace talks with the government, but with his death, many residents of areas most affected by the ongoing conflict fear chances for peace have been greatly diminished, if not, halted entirely. Colombian group FARC 'not defeated'

Claims by the Colombian government that the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) is almost defeated are false, according to the sole survivor of an attack by the army which killed the leader of the leftist resistance group. In an exclusive interview to Al Jazeera, Tomas Garcia, the only man to survive the November 4 military assault which killed FARC's top commander Alfonso Cano, said the government is lying to the people. "They should be honest with what is going on," Garcia, a body-guard of the now deceased leader, said. "They don't want to acknowledge that we are still a force. In some areas we have units with 300 and 400 men." The death of Cano was viewed by many as a major blow to FARC, with the hopes of pushing the armed group to start peace talks. Al Jazeera's Teresa Bo reports.

Faces Of The Colombian War

February 2010 Possibly the most downplayed conflict of today, the forty-year-old Colombian war shows no signs of ceasing. Its fed by a billion dollar drug trade, political division and an international land battle. The conflict is no longer about ideology. Its a battle of powers, a battle for territory. It began as a war between left-wing guerrillas - hoping to establish a communist state and right-wing paramilitary groups funded by the wealthy. Yet both sides lost support when the violence intensified. I lost my entire family, says Anna, whose town was hit by forty guerrilla bombs. Those who werent killed were evicted from valuable land and sent to urban slums. Accion Social the governments aid program for the displaced - has done little to help. And the USs half a billion dollars a year in aid may have indirectly funded the paramilitary death squads associated with President Uribe. With cocaine production still on the rise and much of the land claimed by paramilitary groups now used by international agribusinesses, could there be a financial incentive for the ongoing war? Paramillary narco-trafficking has never ended, because the government is supporting them. And as an even more violent paramilitary rise to claim their piece of the profits, its only the 4 million displaced Columbians, who stand to lose.
