A company video (part 1 of 2) from 1988, this segment showing Compaq growth from the founding of the company on February 16,1982 to producing their first product on January 24, 1983. Featuring/mentioning Compaq founders and early players, Rod Canion, Jim Harris, Bill Murto, Ted Pappajohn, The House Of Pies, Ben Rosen, LJ Seven, Randy Jenkins, Ruth Howard and others. BACKGROUND ON THE VIDEO: When Compaq employees were originally shown this video, a huge company meeting was held in a Houston mega-church sanctuary because Compaq did not have an auditorium big enough. The entire company came to a virtual standstill as a fleet of chartered buses carried the employees to this meeting. Buses that were full of curious rank-and-file employees who had only been told there was to be "some major announcement." We all figured it was good news, but no one knew if it was to be a new product, a new factory, maybe a new building. Even the usually reliable administrators' gossip network was clueless. Once the last busload had been seated, the lights dimmed and the purpose of the meeting was soon revealed. Rod Canion stepped up to the pulpit like a soft spoken church deacon and announced to the company that Compaq had reached OVER a billion dollars in yearly revenue in 1987 AND had done it faster than any corporation in US history! This will make the netbook more responsive when lots of programs are open like several browser tabs, photo editing, or video editing. Here's Rod Canion and (most of) the original senior VPs for Compaq Computer Corporation, rapping(!) and acting goofy for the cameras in a music video, circa 1990. Why this "Beat Big Blue" video seemed necessary to make is known only to those who participated (if even they can recall). It was a very different time for Compaq back then... Streams of seemingly endless cash flowed like wine through department budgets. Indeed, at this point in history those at the helm of Compaq felt that they could do no fiscal wrong and, for a while, they were right. So, for your musical enjoyment(?), here's Rod and his home boys layin' down some bling bling, fat-cat style, big cigars and all! EDITOR NOTE: I had originally labeled this clip as containing the Cpq Board of Directors... that was, of course, erroneous. It finally dawned on me that I was, in fact, seeing the senior VPs - aka Top Brass - that actually ran the place at the time. This is my first computer ever! It's from 1994, and it was bought at CompUSA (great computer store at the time, it's gone now.) This computer cost about $2400, but it was so worth it! I learned all the basics on this computer which originally came with Windows 3.1, MS-DOS, and The Incredible Machine, and AOL which rocked at the time. Unfortunately the hard drive died twice, so all of the original data is gone. The specs are: -Intel 486 @ 66 MHz -12 MB RAM -Windows 95 -1.5 GB Hard Drive (originally 500 MB) -3.5" 1.44 MB Floppy Drive -2x CD-ROM Drive -512 KB Video Memory with Integrated Compaq 1024 monitor. My 1995 Compaq Presario CDS 524 All-In-One computer starting up with a fresh install of Windows 95 and the Windows 95 Plus! upgrade. This computer has a 486 DX2 66 MHz processor (pre-Pentium). It has a 420 MB Hard Disk and 40 MB of RAM. It sports a 3.5 inch floppy drive and a CD ROM drive. The built in modem is a 14.4 bps Data/Fax model. It was a revolutionary system that had the monitor, computer, and speakers all in one unit - just plug in your keyboard, mouse and power cord and your ready to go (just like the old Mac Classic computers). It was originally released in 1995 at a price of $1849. I've had it for about 10 years and have run DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Red Hat Linux on it.
