UFC Rio: Shogun's Strength & Conditioning

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua trains with renowned strength and conditioning specialist Todd Norman. Shogun uses cutting edge technology, including Nike Vapor Strobes, special glasses that flash intermittently, temporarily impairing his vision. The glasses make it more challenging when working on reaction speeds and avoiding strikes. When the glasses are removed, Shogun is able to react faster through heightened visual focus and awareness. Rua faces Forrest Griffin in the co-main event at UFC Rio: Silva vs. Okami, Saturday, August 27, live on Pay-Per-View, 9PM/6PM ET/PT.

Operant conditioning in Goldfish

This is a demonstration of operant conditioning in the goldfish. We use a device called the Fish Stick (PetSci LLC) which presents discriminative stimuli in the form of light or vibration. The reinforcement for hitting the nipple is food. The Fish Stick is useful for demonstrating basic principles of operant conditioning including shaping, extinction, spontaneous recovery, and schedule effects. More complex behavior can also be studied including reversal learning and compound conditioning. The video clip shows a brief sample of the shaping technique followed by a simple discrimination experiment in which a light serves as a feeding cue. When the light is off no food can be obtained. After a few experiences the fish learns to readily bump the nipple when the light is on and to turn away when it is off. A device such as that presented here can easily be used for student projects and classroom use related to operant conditioning and comparative psychology.

Lowerbody Conditioning for Parkour

PLEASE READ THIS: Remember when doing squats, not to bend your knees more than 90 degrees. From time to time I am still guilty of over flexing during one legged squats, which other people say can be bad for your knee joints. In saying that I have still to see clinical proof that it is bad for your knees, as Olympic power lifters don't seem to have any problem's. And if it was bad for our knees, why would our body allow such a range of movement. This clip is to teach and to give you beneficial ideas on body weight conditioning excersises, and for those Traceurs who practice Parkour should try them out. UO Strength and Conditioning: "Bullets Over Bowling Balls: Sculpting the Ideal Athlete"

When the season is over, and the Ducks are removed from the court or the field, they don't take a break. Instead, they work year-round with one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the world, a man that spends the entire year helping athletes at the University of Oregon reach their full potential. For over 26 years, Jim Radcliffe has been the driving force behind many of the successes of Oregon athletics. An unsung hero of the Duck's sports programs, Coach Radcliffe is a leading expert and pioneer in the world of plyometrics and explosive weight training. He can be seen on the sidelines of every football game, but few fans would recognize him as the key component to the fast tempo and explosive style that all Duck sports programs have trademarked over recent years. Year-round, he runs, jumps, and lifts just as often as the student-athletes do, instructing newcomers and veterans alike. This video is a short profile of Oregon's very own sculptor of ideal athletes, demonstrating some of his coaching methods, his unique style, and the great respect his athletes have for him. This video was created in less than 12 hours for a one-week class (June 15-20, 2010) at the University of Oregon titled "J408: Working in Sports Media", a class which brought together both students and student athletes with an interest in media to give both a hands-on experience with creating a sports-related story. Urban Exercise Equipment - Rails - Parkour Training and Conditioning

Exercise equipment is not limited to your local gym or recreation center. It can be found anywhere and at any time. However, to see the equipment that is all around you, you must change the way you view your environment. As a traceur, you already have a head start on gaining this perspective; you see obstacles as opportunities for movement. A natural variation of this perspective is to also see obstacles as exercise equipment. An every day, common rail, bench, tree, or wall can all be turned into an incredibly versatile piece of exercise equipment. In this edition of Urban Exercise Equipment, we will explore the exercise possibilities of a basic rail. The number of different exercises you can do with a basic rail is huge. Imagine you are standing in front of a basic rail with one horizontal bar on top and the occasional vertical bar securing it to the ground. Let me take you through my thought process when I am thinking about the exercise potential of this piece of equipment. This rail is about three feet tall. I can train my legs by jumping onto it or over it. I can train my upper body with the rail through many different pulling and pushing movements. I can develop basic flexibility and coordination by crawling or ducking underneath the rail. I could even do all sorts of quadrupedal movement variations weaving under and through the rails. What about contacting the rail? I could hang underneath and pull myself along. Or I could get on top the rail and do the same thing ...

We loaded 2-25kg plates and 1-20kg plate onto the sled. We pulled, hand-over-hand, the sled with the thick rope and then ran it back to the starting point with the tow rope. DeMatha Basketball Competitive Conditioning Drills (2010)

Shop.StrongerTeam.com - We believe in reinforcing sound work habits on a daily basis. One of the habits we constantly reinforce is the desire to compete. Winning is important. Wanting to win, preparing to win, and competing to win all go hand in hand. "Winning is a habit. Unfortunately, so is losing." We aim to establish a winning culture in all of our off-season workouts as we are confident this mind-set will carry over to the season. Most of the time we have our players compete against themselves (try to beat a previous effort, weight or time)... but occasionally we have them compete against one another. Here are a variety of competitive conditioning drills we use during the off-season and pre-season. These "races" were designed to work on reaction, agility, and basketball specific conditioning. Players and teams were awarded points after each race to promote accountability. The first 3 drills were done at 50-60% of maximum effort as part of our warm-up. Everything after that was 100% and competitive! Races included triangle agility with full court sprint, sprint vs. backpedal, center circle chase, inside-out full court gauntlet, and 3 cone lane drill. The entire workout only lasted 30 minutes. When it comes to competing, we want to stress quality over quantity. NOTE: I apologize it says the word "b---h" in the title. I intentionally downloaded the clean/radio version of the sound to avoid explicit lyrics!
