El Cóndor Pasa (Flight of the Condor) is a song from the zarzuela El Cóndor Pasa by the Peruvian composer Daniel Alomía Robles written in 1913 and based on traditional Andean folk tunes. It is possibly the best-known Peruvian song worldwide due to a cover version by Simon & Garfunkel in 1970 on their Bridge Over Troubled Water album. This cover version is called El Condor Pasa (If I Could). Paul Simon heard a version called "Paso Del Condor" by Jorge Milchberg, who is head of the group Urubamba, formerly known as Los Incas. Simon became friendly with the group through this song, and ended up touring with them and producing their first American album. Paul Simon personalized the song by adding his own English lyrics. On the Simon & Garfunkel version, Robles, Milchberg and Simon are all listed as songwriters. Later that year, Perry Como released a cover of Simon's English version on his album It's Impossible, while Julie Felix took advantage of Simon and Garfunkel's decision not to release their version as a UK single, and had a UK Top 20 hit with it. Simon & Garfunkel did release their version as a single in the US and it reached # 18 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the fall of 1970.

Hook into a very tactical and useful outwear shell for around $80. In my extensive testing of this Condor Tactical Softshell jacket, I came away very impressed. It features amazing storage (8 well-designed pockets!), a perfectly designed and featured hood, great freedom of movement, long-enough sizing (probably order one size up dudes), great colors, pit zips, high quality stitching and zippers, and impressive attention to detail (like moral patches on the sleeves as well, Chums-brand zipper pulls, and perfect monochromatic color execution, and inner cell phone pockets). It is a copy of the also-excellent but stratospherically-priced TAD Gear "Stealth Hoodie" which in 2010 retails for $210. Wind, snow, and light rain resistance proved to be excellent in our RunNGuns in trying conditions; their breathable membrane seems to work as advertised and doesn't impart the clamminess that other Gore-Tex knockoffs do. I slammed this shell into the dirt, ran with it in the snow, mud, and rain and it came away no worse for wear and washed nicely. Condor MicroFleece jacket: Affordable All-arounder
The sharp looking Condor Microfleece jacket delivers higher quality than its price tag would indicate. For around $45 you get a quality fleece jacket that comes in three perfect tactical colorations (olive drab, coyote brown, and black). Expect excellent breathability as this fleece does not contain a wind membrane (and sometimes that is exactly what you want during higher activity levels). The temperature range is for comfort on this fleece is wide and forgiving with the cut giving a trim, unrestrictive fit. I find the sizing to be on the small size and you might want to order a size up, especially you have gorilla-length arms like I do (running an XXL size). The jacket is lightweight and packable. Fleece quality appears to be excellent, it's extremely comfortable, and no pilling on the jacket body was noted in testing (inside of pocket not withstanding). Storage is excellent and is accomplished by two zippered chest, two sleeve, and an interior kangaroo pocket. The high mandarin-style is comfortable and looks cool. The jacket's durability is enhanced by interior polyester mesh and oxford nylon reinforcements on the shoulders, back, and elbows. The sleeves feature an extendable spandex-type cuff with a thumb hole and color-matching Velcro morale patch attachment areas. Overall, the Condor Microfleece jacket, at least at its $45 price point offers amazing value that is unmatched by other similar tactially-oriented jackets. Condor Chest Rig: "Medium Duty LBE" by Nutnfancy
The Condor Chest rig is very comfortable in use. It rides close and low profile to the body and can carry a medium level of mission support supplies for the civilian or LEO. It would make a great minuteman vest if properly configured (crossdraw option usually better in this role however). The Condor Modular Chest Rig however will usually be carrying a Defensive Loadout (DL) 2 level unless stacking is employed. About four rifle mags, some pistol pouches, and maybe accessory pockets will complete most dudes' loadout with this rig. The shoulder straps are well-executed, padded in closed cell foam, quick detachable, and thankfully they lack any buckles on their face to interefere with shoulder weld with the rifle. MOLLE webbing and some weak elastic retention loops are provided on the shoulder straps. The bib (sternum) portion is snap attached for access of shirt pockets which is an unneeded feature. The bib rides securely. It also provides more MOLLE area which is very helpful for chest mounted pistol or some small pouches (watch for interferences as you configure your vest). Fit and adjustability covers most body sizes; make sure you snug up the straps, double secure them (shown) for maximum rig stability. The POU of rifle plate carrier can also be served but the plate carriage is poorly-executed: a loose retention strap, the bib is too small to accommodate a SAPI hard plate, and the plate is uncovered (allowing dirt to scoop into and ingress the pocket from prone shooting <b>...</b>

You ain't gonna' find a better Multicam LBE option for around $90 these days. At least in this most excellent Multicam variation, the Condor Modular Operator Plate Carrier or MOPC represents excellent value and quality for the money. At just 2 lbs 10 oz, it's a lightweight and contoured carrier that provides impressive comfort in wear. Credit the padding and mesh lining as well, a rarity at this price level. Quality and design throughout is generally excellent: good buckles that don't squeak (not yet at least), uniform and strong reinforced stitching, outstanding colorations (sewn Multicam MOLLE webbing provides superior camouflage vs brown nylon webbing), easy adjustment and doffing, high quality hook and loop closures, interior map pocket, hoop Velcro provided for morale patching/nametapes, perfectly sized plate pockets (that hold both soft and hard armor securely), extra MOLLE on the side, a drag loop, clean shoulder design (with buckles in back), and side pockets that expand to accommodate different size plates. Colors as of 2010 included: Multicam (shown), black, OD, Coyote Tan, and ACU. The Multicam version is licensed and features the mandated improved materials: poly coated 500 denier Cordura nylon (as opposed to lesser quality vinyl-coated nylon). The MOPC rides securely with medium loads under high exertion and is a stable rig. No interferences were noted in both pressured handgun and rifle drills. Condor Mag carrier: "Kangaroo Option" by Nutnfancy
A current favorite for its simplicity and design excellence, the Condor Kangaroo mag pouch is a loadout problem solver. It is size efficient and makes carrying a DL 3 loadout easy. Available in 2010 in various versions, this 3-mag carrier is ideal because it also integrates three well-designed pistol mag pouches (that will fit most pistol mags as well; two 1911 mags fit in it too). Materials are excellent, stitching is good, it's tough and lightweight. This Multicam pattern is my favorite and is priced right for the quality but the Kangaroo pouch is also available in other colorations as well. Material for this version seems to be 500 denier poly coated Cordura which is preferred (samplings of other Condor products in other colors show this to be the standard now...subject to change). Rifle mag pouches are retained with adjustable tan elastic which possesses the ideal strength. They fit Magpul PMAGS easily. Pistol mag pouches have adjustable and removable lids and have elastic retention. Value is high for the cost. About the only detectable downside is the looseness of the MOLLE straps on the pouch, fixed by my own sewing modification (shown). At Manchester Ringway I was filming a Germanwings A319 landing on a cloudy late Sept day in 2010 and suddenly 3 fire-engines roared past. Eventually a Condor airways complete with Snoopy decals, landed and was promptly followed up the runway by the Fire Engines. OK, this isn't as dramatic as a full blown emergency, but I think, still a rare sight. Thankfully, nothing bad materialised.

Van Cleef once lived with the Apaches and claims they still follow him wherever he goes. Brown reckons the Apaches are the army he needs to attack the fortress, defended by the Mexican federal army. Filmed in Almeria, this ersatz spaghetti western was produced by the great Andre De Toth and stars Lee van Cleef in a part more appropriate to Eli Wallach. "El Condor" is noisy and violent, with several scenes offering female nudity that is far more valuable than all the gold of the fortress. Like Raquel Welch in "100 Rifles", Marianna Hill is crazy about black hunk Jim Brown. Yes, the times really were a changin'. This is also the first, and arguably best, of three westerns starring Brown and Van Cleef, the other two being "Take a Hard Ride" and "Kid Vengeance". For this one Brown was top-billed, for the other two Van Cleef.
