In a hearing on employer-sponsored health insurance, Conklin testified about his challenges with health insurance as a small employer and urged Congress to act quickly to pass health reform that works for small businesses - with shared responsibility and the choice of a public health insurance plan. Bruce Conklin: Drug screening with stem cells
One possible use for pluripotent stem cells is to screen drugs for toxic side effects. The idea is that researchers could grow those stem cells into mature cell types such as heart, liver, or brains cells, expose them to new drugs or potential environmental hazards, then look for toxic side effects. Dr. Bruce Conklin has a CIRM grant to develop heart cells that could be used in toxicology screens. Conklin is Senior Investigator at the Gladstone Institute of Cardiovascular Disease.

Lee Conklin Reed Organ Museum - Clough & Warren Reed Organ
The Clough & Warren pipe top reed organ was made in Detroit in 1905. It has often been the favorite of many who play it when at the Lee Conklin Reed organ museum, with its selection of 21 stops and full sound. It is, in fact, one of my favorites at the museum. The volunteers at the museum have restored and maintaned this complex instrument, which plays absolutely wonderful. "The Lost Chord" is a song composed by Sir Arthur Sullivan in 1877 at the bedside of his brother Fred who was quite ill. The manuscript is dated January 13, 1877; Fred Sullivan died five days later. The piece was intended for the Pipe Organ. I have joked about Sir Sullivan, that if he composed "The Lost Chord" while at a reed organ, he would have found that elusive chord... Sullivan lived from 1842 to 1900. He was an English composer, best known for his operatic collaborations with Sir William Gilbert like the HMS Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance. Sullivan also wrote many hymns including the well-known, "Onward Christian Solders".

Conklin GTBD-7 7-String Bass Demo - (Mark Michell)
Just messing around on my new Conklin GTBD-7 7-String Bass. Hopefully this is a decent video to get an idea of what they sound like. I'm playing through an Ampeg BA-115 in this video, so you can imagine what it might sound like through a higher quality rig than mine here. I mic'd the Ampeg BA-115 straight from XLR-1/8" to my soundcard as well. My Review: Overall, 9.8/10! Tone: AMAZING! The 3-band EQ with the 3-way mid-frequency selector opens up many doors if you're looking for complete tonal control and freedom. It also comes with a 4-way rotary switch, offering a wide variety of preset tones. They are AMAZING sounding! Setup: This is my only complaint (if you can call it that). Out of the box from the factory, the action was a little weird, as well as the intonation. Using the tools it came with, I spent an hour or so each day making small adjustments. After a week of slightly relieving the neck, adjusting the action and intonation, it feels absolutely incredible. The intonation for higher chords is PERFECT! Accessories: This is the hardest part! There are NO bass cases available for this beast! I had to purchase a universal case and hack away with a pocket knife for sometime to make it fit. I managed to mold the case into a perfect fit for the bass. Strings: Feel great! Only problem..where can you buy 7-string sets? XD! 7-String sets are $70 a pop from www.conklinguitars.com, but I think it is totally worth it for this. If you're a player who changes strings monthly <b>...</b>
