Lions and the Maasai - Conservation International (CI)

Beneath the Wrappings: Conservation of Emory's Old Kingdom Mummy

In 1921, William Arthur Shelton, a professor in Emory's Candler School of Theology, purchased an Old Kingdom mummy from the sacred site of Abydos in Middle Egypt. In storage at the Carlos Museum for over 90 years, its linen in tatters, its head in a separate box, and many bones missing or exposed, the mummy provided an extraordinary challenge for conservators Renee Stein and Mimi Leveque. This video documents their almost year-long treatment of the mummy in close consultation with curator Peter Lacovara, students and faculty at Emory University, doctors at Emory Hospital, and other consultants. Waste Management Surpasses its Wildlife Conservation Sustainability Goal

In 2010, Waste Management surpassed its sustainability goal to have 100 of its sites certified by the Wildlife Habitat Council by the year 2020. With more than 25000 acres set aside, the company now has 103 sites dedicated to preservation of local environments. The protected areas provide homes and breeding grounds for birds, fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and plant species, many of them protected or endangered.

H2O Conserv Product Demo - iwashandshine

H2O Conserv offers an environmentally-friendly alternative to washing cars the conventional way with its products iWash, iClean and iShine, shown here by Duncan McLaurin. According to the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), the average homeowner uses 116 gallons of water per car wash. Since this water is then mixed with chemicals, soaps and residual oil and gas from cars that generally flow into storm drains, it contaminates rivers, lakes and streams. Many areas of the US enforce strict water regulations, and residents in cities or apartment complexes often do not have access to a hose. In recognition of the adverse effects of conventional car washing on the environment, and the inconvenience it presents to many car owners, Mitch Campbell and H2O Conserv´s chemical expert David Ghodoussi developed a soy based, bio-degradable non-toxic car washes that will be available on a national retail level and on QVC within the next year. H2O Conserv is not only environmentally conscious, the company is also collaborating St. Jude´s Children`s Hospital in support of their fundraising efforts. Both iWash and iClean are applied with a single micro-fiber towel, included with the bottle. While iWash requires about a gallon of water for its application, iClean is designed to be used with no water whatsoever. iShine is a water-based spray wax that contains no petroleum, is non-abrasive, and contains no hazardous chemicals, H20 Conserv´s convenient, cost-effective products are currently ...

Indonesia Forest Debt Swap - The Nature Conservancy

Forests help provide Indonesians with clean drinking water, food, medicine, building materials, and economic livelihoods. Forest destruction and degradation are by far Indonesia's biggest sources of carbon pollution. The Nature Conservancy is involved in a very exciting agreement between the Indonesian and US governments and WWF to inject significant additional investments into forest conservation efforts on the Indonesian island of Borneo. This agreement is $28.5 million made possible by the US Tropical Forest Conservation Act.

"Shiiiiiiiiiiiii.....ga" Kawaiguy's photos around Toyone-mura, Japan (kimuchi english conserv)

Preview of Kawaiguy's blog at TravelPod. Read the full blog here: www.travelpod.com This blog preview was made by TravelPod using the TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow creator. Entry from: Toyone-mura, Japan Entry Title: "Shiiiiiiiiiiiii.....ga." Entry: "It's an inside joke. And don't worry, you'll get plenty of those. After Ontake, after Kyoto (entry to follow soon), I stayed a day in Nagoya to meet with my friend Tom and his English-teacher coworker Suzuki-san. We stayed at Suzuki-san's place with his family, had some delicious Kimuchi-nabe (vegetables and meats cooked in a pot of spicy soup broth...absolutely delicious!), took a bath, and set out at 5AM. I kept dozing off in the vehicle, as staying awake this time was tough. I suppose I was feeling a little drained after all the outings in Kyoto, and carrying close to 100lbs worth of luggage and gifts with me. Good thing I didn't pack that TV... When we did arrive, after a couple pit-stops for ice-cream and snacks (a little hobby I've picked up along the way), we arrived at what seemed to be a winter wonderland. I thought Ontake had snow...but Shiga Kogen (as the richness of the name suggests) is just LOADED with snow. I've never seen this much powder in my life. Tom and I snowboarded the second day along some 'off-the-beaten-path' runs, and laughed in delight as we tumbled in 2-4 feet of snow. Did I mention how vast this mountain was? They have something called the Shiga-Challenge, where they offer a small booklet to ...
