On November 18th I was assaulted by Plain Clothes Officers. We started off our shift at 16th in Mission in Sf by seeing several strange people. I assumed them to be plain clothes officers because I could see vests under their shirts. When they refused to identify themselves I wondered whether indeed these were "on the job" cops. Many cities around the country are known for having rogue units that take the "law" into their own hands, or are involved in organized crime. As I questioned a woman on her involvement she grabbed my camera and ran at me. From all directions came men who neither identified themselves as cops or gave orders. I assumed I was getting attacked, and I was unsure of by who. As I ran into 16th street two cops cars pulled up with lights on, it was at that point that I stopped and let the arriving officers take me down. Among the myriad troubles facing the city of Oakland right now is a question of how the federal court that's currently overseeing Oakland's police department will view the city's aggressive response to Occupy Oakland. In 2003, after a group of rogue West Oakland officers, now known as the "Riders" were accused of planting evidence and beating suspects, the department agreed to a number of reforms as part of a negotiated settlement. That consent decree has been extended twice, as the court and its independent monitoring team have repeatedly chastised the department for not adequately progressing on required reforms. In a recent hearing, Judge Henderson went as far as threatening the department with federal receivership if it doesn't make progress. Oakland officials have repeatedly said they're taking steps to avoid receivership, but the city's handling of Occupy Oakland is sure to draw the court's attention. The court has several issues with the department. Among them is officers in the department's high rate of drawing weapons while interacting with the public. "The level of unnecessary drawing of firearms is astounding," the judge said at a September hearing. Another drunk guy in Rockville Town Square. Officer Sully decides to harrass me for filming. I didnt get the whole incident with the drunk guy because I had to figure some things out and it was over before i could. I edited that point on out since it was just my conversation. Afterwards I walk by 2 security guards (one of whom was in the vid) and that one asks why i was taping. I explained it to him while the other listened. "Suspect detained after shots fired at Oakland officers" I produced this video with the help of Alex Weber and Josh Wolf By Sean Maher Oakland Tribune OAKLAND -- A man suspected of shooting at two police officers who tried to stop him on a West Oakland street was detained tonight after a massive search, police said. The officers were near the intersection of Sycamore and West streets around 7:30 pm, conducting a walking stop on the man and a woman standing with him, when the man drew a gun and opened fire on them for unknown reasons, said Officer Jeff Thomason, a police spokesman. "There is no indication that the officers fired back," Thomason wrote in an e-mail. Nobody was reported hurt in the shooting and the officers chased after the man, but he briefly evaded them. Officers detained him about 9 pm after they caught him walking out of a nearby building in a group of people. Officials did not immediately know why the officers stopped the two people or what kind of gun was used. The area remained locked down as investigators examined the scene of the shooting and chase Monday night.
