Now here's a KU song we bet you haven't heard. Members of the University of Kansas Class of 1962 were treated to the music of Sassie Mae and the Cornertones during their 50-year reunion lunch on April 27, 2012. Among the songs featured was "Kansas, Dear Kansas." Here's the tune's description as written in "The Songs of Old KU" book published by the KU Alumni Association: "The only true drinking song to survive the personal whim of the student body and the admonition of University officials, 'Kansas, Dear Kansas' has appeared in songbooks as far back as 1910. It often appears in print, but no one seems to claim ownership." Clearly, the song has fallen out of favor these days with concerns about student drinking, but we think it's worth a look back.
