Creatoon - first test to see how it works

Creatoon is now freeware and has the advantage of once having been an expensive commercial program for cut-out style animation. It was used to make several TV series for children. (Bonny, Banana and Mo, Numbertime) Its disadvantage (apart from no longer being supported) is that the documentation is quite poor, but there are a large number of video tutorials. This is just my first experiment just to see how much I could work out by myself. It took about 10 minutes and isn't meant to be anything more than a rough test. One thing is immediately evident - it is EASILY possible to create as many pivot-points as you need (something that was totally impossible in Artoonix which I used to use). What I now need to work out is how to translate a figure so that those pivots and limbs travel WITH the body as it moves. I know it's possible so it's just a case of working through the brief manual and looking through the tutorials. The character in this test has 6 bodyparts and was originally created for use with Tales Animator. It was easy to convert the images into the png format prior to importing them into Creatoon by using Irfanview to make the backgrounds transparent. As this was just a first test I only created 3 pivot points (each arm and the eyes). The feet were just moved to and fro with standard translation and then tweened. If only those last processes could be done with Artoonix, it would surely be a real winner but as things stand - they can't.
1st basic animation test with CreaToon 3.0

Barely any idea how to use CreaToon, but after a couple of the site tutorials I came up with this, using a character from a previous illustration I'd done, cut up in GIMP, then raw frames composited in Blender. Took me two hours, but that's only because I didn't know how to use the programs well. CreaToon is a lot of fun and dead easy to use, though.

Creatoon 3.0 Scenery Test

My 2nd test using Creatoon 3.0. My goal here was to try to create a mored advanced scene that included depth so I could really work with camera panning. I used a bunch of elements (pngs) I had lying around from other graphic projects here and there. My next step will be to actually integrate some type of articulated character into a similar environment....

Sucking Creatoon Fight test

This is an expeiment in trying to make a fight scence with creatoon. remember there isn't that baig of a comunity for Creatoon, so I have to expeiment and get better all by myself. There are no tuts on how to do this kind of thing, and even though people say that Creatoon insn't powerful enugh to do this type of animation, I will find out how to do so. When pivot first came out, every one made suck anis bedcause they didn't think they could make anything better with pivot, now they have anis that beat some flash animations! I will practice and I will publish my new skills and prove that creatoon is a very powerful program in the right hands.
