We do pull-ups, squats, push-ups, weightlifting, gymnastics, running, rowing, and a host of other movements. Always varied, always changing, always producing results. Kids, cops, firefighters, soccer moms, Navy SEALS, and grandmas all do CrossFit. CrossFit - The Story of Fran by Greg Glassman


"If a hurricane that wreaks havoc on a whole town can be Fran, so can a workout." In this video shot at several CrossFit 101 seminars, Coach Greg Glassman talks about the birth of one of CrossFit's best-known and most challenging workouts: Fran. As a young athlete, Coach believed training with weights would help him become a better gymnast. When three sets of eight lateral raises with a Ted Williams weightlifting set didn't replicate the feeling produced by a two-minute routine on the rings or parallel bars, Coach had to get creative. After coming up with and self-testing a workout involving three rounds of 21, 15 and 9 thrusters and pull-ups, Coach promptly threw up—but he knew he had found something that would make him better at his sport. From there, Coach invited a friend to try the workout (with similar results), and a few decades later the WOD is still challenging CrossFitters around the world.

CrossFit - California Road Trip: Part 1


Join an all-star cast on a classic CrossFit road trip as Dave Castro, Sevan Matossian and Rob Orlando embark on a tour of California. This trip, however, isn't for traditional sightseeing. The sights along this journey are barbells and top competitors as the group makes its way north, one workout at a time. In Part 1 the group meets Josh Everrett, Greg Amundson and Ryan Williams, the latter of whom is a former Navy SEAL and the co-owner of CrossFit Forged. Their destination is a beach O-course at a Navy SEAL training ground in Coronado. And how can they make the course more challenging? Try adding a buddy carry in the sand. Then, it's on to a Navy SEAL gym, where they try their luck with rope muscle-ups. According to Castro, it's a "good party trick." Find out if Rob Orlando can beat the current "world record" on his first attempt. To end the day, Orlando goes head to head with Dave Lipson in a heavy workout. Have you ever seen overhead lunges at 185 lb.? "My fitness is hurting right now," Lipson says after the experience. Today's epic start also offers a bit of history and a look into the future from two early CrossFit stars. Learn the origin of the term "firebreather" from Amundson, the "Original Firebreather." And does three-time competitor Everett plan on trying to get back to the CrossFit Games again?

CrossFit - SEALFIT Part 9


Leave your tights, weightlifting shoes and iPods at the door. In this camp, your name doesn't go on the whiteboard. It goes on your plain white T-shirt. From the CrossFit Journal (journal.crossfit.com). This is SEALFIT's Kokoro Camp. On the line to accept that challenge are CrossFitters including Mikko Salo, Kristan Clever, Rob Orlando, Tommy Hackenbruck, Caity Henniger, Jimi Letchford and Greg Amundson. In Part 9, two team missions are on the schedule one in the mountains and the other on the beach. The mountain recon mission takes place through the night and attempts the impossible: to finish a mission never finished before. "You know you're past that point of tired to exhaustion, so you're just going to do it. It's a pretty awesome feeling when you've done so much," says one team member. The following morning, the group breaks into two teams for the beach mission. "Everything that we've learned up to this point will come into play in this mission," says SEALFIT founder Mark Divine. One team leads an assault and has but seven minutes to run over a mile through the sand and surf to scale a lifeguard platform without using the stairs. On their way back, Divine tells them to ford a river and each find a rock "that represents how big your will to live is." Meanwhile, the other team is providing support, burying themselves in the sand for cover and resisting the urge to sleep after days without it. The mental and physical challenges continue as the athletes reach the home <b>...</b>

CrossFit Games - Women of the 2010 Games


This video is a tribute to the women of the 2010 CrossFit Games. CrossFit differs from most sports in that its women are on an equal footing with its men. The top female CrossFitter will win the same amount of money as the top male CrossFitter in 2011, $250000. CrossFit women routinely beat men on workouts. 2010 CrossFit Games champion Kristan Clever has taken the top score on the mainsite WOD multiple times, even outperforming Austin Malleolo, who took 6th place at the 2010 Games. Whereas gymnastics confines ring exercises to male athletes, CrossFit demands upper-body intensive movements such as ring muscle-ups, handstand push-ups, and rope climbs from its female athletes. This is the sport of fitness, and the real world does not vary its demands according to the sex of an individual. The result is a female athlete that is far more capable and confident than is the norm outside of CrossFit.
