DiMarzio Pickups DP228 Crunch Lab Bridge - Tone Sample

The DP228 Crunch Lab, from DiMarzio pickups, John Petrucci's signature bridge wind. This particular one is with the bar magnet towards the neck. Played through a Peavey 6505+ and a Fulltone FD-2 MOSFET at some points. My opinions on this pickup: The DP228 Crunch Lab is midranged-voiced, tight, and aggressive, but still very sweet sounding and not at all harsh, which is unusual in a modern-output pickup. The voicing is most suited to metal and prog, but still can put together a great clean sound with the volume rolled back or split. Excellent lead sound but even better for tight rhythms. I don't know how it sounds with the bar towards the bridge, but for tighter rhythms it's recommended to have the bar facing the neck for downtuned metal. Guitar Signal: Ernie Ball Music Man Ball Family Reserve JPX -- Fulltone Fulldrive FD-2 MOSFET overdrive pedal --- Peavey 6505+ --- MXR KFK-1 10 Band Graphic Equalizer -- effects return. Annotation in lower right corner indicates when the pedals are used or bypassed.
