Hunter College (CUNY), New York City, protests budget cuts

On March 4th, 2010, the National Day of Action for Public Education, Hunter College (CUNY) students and faculty join nationwide protests against cuts to higher education by mounting a demonstration on their New York City Campus. After being told by the police that they were not allowed to use microphones, they complied and got their messages across by screaming at the top of their lungs. Apart from minor disruptions through non-Hunter College students (what is your agenda, New School for Social Research?), the protest was entirely peaceful.

Fight the Tuition Purge at CUNY: Students and Labor, Shut the City Down!

The CUNY Internationalist Clubs present a video of the CUNY contingent in last week's huge city labor march against budget cuts. Includes scenes of the Hunter College walkout that afternoon, as well as from the student occupations at New School and NYU. At the City University of New York, the administration and the state legislature want to raise tuition by $600 per year or more. This is a continuation of the drive to erase the gains of open admissions and purge tens of thousands of poor, racially oppressed, and immigrant students from CUNY. Students must ally with workers in a powerful mobilization to beat back these attacks.
