Our model here already actually has a lot of natural wave texture. She has product in it. These are two things that are important when trying to do the messy updo. The reason I say that is because if your hair is too soft, it's going to slip out of a pin, it's going to slip out of whatever you try to put in it. It's just not going to hold what you do. So that's number one: you've got to get your texture rough enough that it will give grip to whatever you want to do with it. So Monica has fine, thick hair. What I did is I sprayed some dry shampoo at her roots and I actually gave her a heat protector, and I put a little body in her hair using a curling iron. The difference is instead of brushing it out, you could even brush it out, what I did is I took about inch section on the top of her head and curled those ones just a little more. In the last video we took larger sections. This time, just on the top of the head, we're just taking a little bit smaller sections to give a little more curl on the top of your head. We're going to do this all the way around, I've already done this side for you, and I curled these last two pieces away from the face cause I like a little bit of variation and movement. So, after you do that you're going to take some, for me I'm using a styling wax, has a little bit of shine in it cause shine was very important back then. You're going to silk that through the hair; and I'm not brushing the curls too <b>...</b>

Hot rollers give good volume, but I don't always love the curl I get from hot rollers, whereas with, when I use my irons I can curl each one in a unique way, I can vary the sizes, but I can also vary the shape of the curl.
