Pure Sweet Hell "Cyclocross Film" (Three Minute Trailer)

PURE SWEET HELL tells the story of cyclocross, a sport that has emerged as bike racing's punk rock cousin. Told from an insider's perspective, the filmmakers traveled to 'cross competitions throughout North America, dug up vintage photos and film footage, and followed 'cross luminaries Justin Robinson, Gina Hall, Barry Wicks and Rick Hunter. Shot entirely on Super 8 and supported by experimental rock music, PURE SWEET HELL surfaces both the strong community behind the solitary sport and the grace that arises amidst all of its grit. Cyclocross: The steeplechase of bicycle racing

Pedal. Sprint. Turn. Dismount. Run. Jump. Remount. Pedal. Oh, yeah, and breathe. A combination of skill, speed, endurance, and concentration, cyclocross is the steeplechase of cycling. It began in late 19th-century France when, in winter, cyclists veered off-road and over jagged terrain to maintain their fitness and improve their bike-handling skills. Yesterday's off-season is today's pro circuit.

Koksijde@2010/11 Patrick UCI Cyclo Cross World Cup

UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup: Solo wins for Albert and Compton in Koksijde Date: 29.11.2010 Description: Niels Albert and Katherine Compton rode to solo victories in the Belgian dunes of Koksijde during the third round of the UCI Patrick Cyclo-cross World Cup. The new course was designed with a view to the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in 2012. Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) won the race in the Elite Men's category ahead of World Champion Zdenek Stybar (Telenet-Fidea). However, Stybar remains in the lead of the World Cup standings. Meanwhile Compton (USA) won the Women's competition by a huge margin over the two Dutch competitors Daphny van den Brand and Sanne van Paassen. Van den Brand is the new leader of the World Cup series. Men Elite -- First victory of the season for Albert During the first half of the Elite Men's race, nine riders distanced the rest of the field on a course that was a mixture of sand and mud. In front of his home crowd, Niels Albert set up a decisive attack just before the halfway stage of the race. Despite counter-attacks from his compatriots Bart Wellens (Telenet-Fidea) and Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) the leader extended his lead during the remaining five laps of the hilly course. Albert cruised to his first victory of the season with half a minute over the first chasers. A late crash from Wellens allowed Stybar to take second place, with Nys riding into third place. On 230 points, Stybar has a 15 point lead over Albert (215) in the World Cup ...

Cyclocross Racing

Cyclocross racing traces it's roots back to early 1900's Europe. Now entrenched in the US, the cross country bicycle races are held in autumn or winter. Riders are challenged by a demanding course that is filled with terrain changes including water hazards-jumps-tight turns- mud pits, steep climbs and descents. Frequent dismounts, run, then remounts are required to navigate the exhausting course.
Igorrre@UCI Cyclo Cross World Cup 2011/12

Highlights from the 4th leg of the 2011/12 Patrick UCI Cyclo Cross World Cup in Igorre / Spain Super-consistent Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb -- Revor) captured his second World Cup victory of the season in Igorre, Spain, during the fourth round of the 2011-2012 Patrick UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Pauwels strengthens his overall lead in the Elite Men category of the World Cup in front of Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) who was runner-up in the Basque Country. Young rider Tom Meeusen (Telenet -- Fidea) completed the Belgian podium on Sunday. The first laps on the more or less dry course in cloudy Igorre were dominated by Belgian rider Rob Peeters (Telenet -- Fidea), Italian rider Enrico Franzoi (Selle Italia Guerciotti) and Czech rider Radomir Simunek (BKCP -- Powerplus). However, while the three early leaders searched for their second breath, Sven Nys hammered through. During the third lap he blew the front of the race apart and gathered a lead of 13s on the main chase group, which included World Cup leader Pauwels. Although Pauwels could not immediately find the space to close the gap, he moved up a gear a lap later, with reigning World Champion Zdenek Stybar (Quickstep Cycling Team) on his wheel. Pauwels bridged up to Nys in half a lap, but Stybar (CZE) lost touch with Pauwels, failing to close the final gap on the Belgian duo in front. The two leaders checked each other out for two laps until bad luck struck Nys: a flat tire on the long and steep uphill section of the Spanish course ...

2011 Cyclo Cross WCH Women & Men Elite

2011 UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships: Vos and Stybar keep their titles Three world titles in the last three years: after her victory in St. Wendel, Marianne Vos -- who had already won the gold medal in the Elite category in 2006 at Zeddam -- certainly deserves to be considered the biggest cyclo-cross specialist of all time. This versatile Dutch athlete -- who also possesses an impressive list of achievements on the road and on the track -- once again knew how to cope with the different race situations. After fairly easily controlling the repeated attempts by Katherine Compton, the main favourite for the event, Vos launched her attack in the final lap. Neither the American, nor the Czech Katerina Nash, who accompanied them in the lead group, was able to react. The distance between them grew, and at the finish they were forced to concede 17'' and 20'' respectively to their rival. In fourth place and 42'' off the winner, Hanka Kupfernagel gave it her all, with the pride of a great champion who would have like to offer the German public another victory on the same course as in 2005 when she obtained the third of her four world titles. Elite Men: Stybar's victorious return If Marianne Vos has now earned the right to a place in cycling's history, Zdenek Stybar appears to be on the right path to do the same. Twelve months after his victory in Tabor, the Czech -- who had to sit out a good part of the season due to injury -- dominated the last race in the 2011 UCI Cyclo-cross ...

Tabor@Cyclo Cross World Cup 2011/12

During the second round of the Patrick UCI 2011-2012 Cyclo-cross World Cup in Tabor, Czech Republic, the Belgian rider Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb-Revor) and Katerina Nash (Luna Pro Team) took a win and the lead in the overall standings. Pauwels successfully completed a long solo effort while Nash distanced Dutch riders Daphny van den Brand (AA Drink/Leontien.nl Cyling Team) and Sanne van Paassen (Brainwash Wielerploeg). In the Men's event, the fast course in Tabor saw a large group of thirteen riders complete the first laps in the lead together. An acceleration from home rider and World Champion Zdenek Stybar (Quickstep Cycling Team) was enough to get Stybar into the front together with Pauwels and his team-mate Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb-Revor). The latter dropped back and performed stoppage work for Pauwels in the chase group. Little later Stybar was delayed by a flat tyre. Pauwels proved to be much faster than his other rivals and built up a lead of nearly one minute. In the final laps Stybar and Vantornout distanced the other chasers and eventually Stybar pleased the home crowd by winning the sprint, at 32s from winner Pauwels. The latter takes over the lead in the World Cup from Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) who finished fifth in Tabor. Nys and Stybar share second place in the standings at 15 points from Pauwels. The race in the Women's category was wide open, five women dominated the opening half of the race and in the final laps the group was reduced to three leaders thanks ...

Heusden Zolder@Patrick UCI Cyclo Cross World Cup

2010-2011 UCI Patrick Cyclo-cross World Cup: Snow and ice can't stop Boom and Compton The heavy snow showers of the last week turned the former F1 car racing circuit in Zolder, Belgium into a challenging cyclo-cross course for the UCI Patrick Cyclo-cross World Cup. Dutch champion Lars Boom (Rabobank) bested World Cup leader Niels Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) in the difficult circumstances in the Elite Men category. Nevertheless Albert strengthened his World Cup lead over Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet). The win from Katherine Compton (USA) in the Women's category moves the US-champion ahead of former leader Sanne van Paassen (The Netherlands) in the lead of the World Cup. The win from Boom in the Elite Men category came after an exciting duel with Albert. The duo quickly distanced the rest of the field. Early on Albert had the upper hand because Boom encountered repeated problems with his chain. The lead from Albert over Boom was never more than fifteen seconds and during the fifth lap the two 24 year-old riders were tackling the snow together. During the following lap Albert struggled with the deep snow while Boom powered away. Boom quickly gathered a gap of ten seconds and Albert was unable to close it back down. It allowed Boom to win the only World Cup round he's racing this season. More than a minute behind the two protagonists Belgian star Bart Wellens (Telenet-Fidea) claimed the remaining podium spot. Belgian champion Nys finished only in fifth place. World Cup leader Albert ...

Plzen@UCI Patrick Cyclo Cross world Cup 2010/11

UCI Patrick Cyclo-cross World Cup: Another victory for Stybar World Champion Zdenek Stybar (Telenet-Fidea) and Sanne van Paassen (The Netherlands) worked their way to solo victories during the second round of the UCI Patrick Cyclo-cross World Cup in Plzen, Czech Republic. Stybar extends his lead in the Elite Men's category over Belgians Kevin Pauwels (Telenet-Fidea) and Niels Albert (BCKP-Powerplus) while Van Paassen moves into the World Cup lead together with her compatriot Daphny van den Brand (The Netherlands). Local rider Stybar won the Elite Men's race in front of his home crowd after leading most of the race together with his team-mate Pauwels and former World Champion Niels Albert. On the dry and fast course in Plzen the three riders worked well together to build up a comfortable lead over French champion Francis Mourey (Française des Jeux) and Belgians Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb-Revor), Bart Aernouts (Rabobank Giant Offroad Team), Sven Nys (Landbouwkrediet) and Dieter Vanthourenhout (BKCP-Powerplus). Going into the penultimate lap Stybar attacked on the sloping uphill section at the finish line and only Pauwels was able to keep up with the World Champion. After a furious fast lap the two team-mates kept off Albert but just before entering the final lap Pauwels disappeared from the front with a flat tyre. The home crowd surely didn't mind the Belgian's bad luck as their champion could avoid risks while rolling towards his second win in the World Cup. Pauwels held on ...

Cyclocross Day of the Dead Festival and Costume Race

BEND, Ore - Some people take their cyclocross seriously and some people take their Halloween parties seriously. Now here's what happens when you combine both. Nighttime clydesdale championship racing (that is human clydesdales - 200lb+ men and 160lb+ women) followed by a dance party with performances by wanderlust circus and Cumbia Band, El Raffa De Alaska at the Deschutes Brewery Warehouse. Beginners and unicross racing started bright and early the next morning with probably more than a few hangovers in tow at the River City Bicycles Cyclocross Crusade race. Prizes were given to the costumes. CrankMyChain! Cycle TV producer, Dan Kaufman, stepped away from the camcorder long enough to don a guitar, bicycle and elvis suit but he did manage to strap a camera to Robert Ping's seat post. Why was Dan racing robert Ping's bike when he has a perfectly good Cross Check? Well he doesn't have a perfectly good Cross Check anymore. More on that in another episode. But you can see pictures at the end of the Friday's Cyclocross Super D video here: www.youtube.com A good time was had by all except a handful of not-so fancy pants Cat A racers like Molly Cameron who were too good to sport costumes but not good enough to beat costumed racers like Carl Decker and Adam Craig (who actually wore a green suit that completely covered his mouth and nose).
