It is often argued the St. Cyprian did not affirm Catholic ecclesiology because he disagreed with Stephen and never taught the Papacy. In short, the disagreement was informal and is of no relevance to the topic of the Papacy and St. Cyprian elsewhere directly teaches that the Church of Rome is the Principle Church of all, is the source all all Episcopal Unity and is immune to and will never teach heresy. St. Cyprian also teaches that Peter is the one unity of all the apostles and of the whole Church. For these reasons St. Cyprian says "To be in communion with [The Pope] Cornelius is to be in communion with the Catholic Church" (Ep 4). All of these teachings by Cyprian, every single one, undermine and refute autocephalous "orthodox" ecclesiology.
