Nikon D300s Introduction Movie

Highlights: Capture and Edit HD Movies in stereo The D300S comprehensively extends DSLR HD movie capture by adding external stereo sound input, autofocus capability and premieres in-camera movie editing. External stereo microphone support adds more realistic sound to shooting movie clips, and a new dedicated LV button makes switching between stills and movies easier than ever. In-camera movie clips can be edited by simply selecting the start and stop points during playback. Also, the new Type C HDMI interface enables editing to be carried out on an HD display if desired. Dual slot storage media For the first time in this class, the D300S offers the choice of dual storage media standards; CF (Compact Flash™) and SD (Secure Digital™) with options to manage how the camera records data to them. For example, one can elect to store stills to one format and movie clips to another. Faster shooting, outstanding quality. The D300S captures images up to a blistering 7 frames per second without requiring any additional battery pack. The optional MB-D10 pack makes 8fps possible as well as improved vertical shooting ergonomics. High-speed performance One major advancement of the D300S is its ability to shoot as fast as 7 frames per second,*1 with Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL3e, and up to 8 frames per second*2 when using the optional Multi-Power Battery Pack MB-D10 and Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL4a. It also offers a rapid startup time of approx. 130 milliseconds and an ...

Correction on the Autofocus Fine Tuning: You can only save one individal model of lens. If you have multiple 105mm lenses the camera will only save one of them. It does provide you with a way to number the lens though (for example the last two digits of the serial) so you know which lens you have calibrated. You cannot save two different calibrations of the 105mm. The ability to number them from 00 to 99 is for your reference only. Sorry, except for the 10 minute clips this segment is uncut. It's about an hour total. I walk through the most frequently used features of the D300, and some less frequently used. 4/6 Setup Menu Save/Load settings Non CPU Lens: setting up auto metering/exposure on manual lenses or teleconverters Autofocus Fine Tune Retouch Menu My Menu: Favorite customizations / menu items Shooting 8 FPS without the battery grip for 9 frames using bracketing burst mode. Nikon D300 Hands free bracketing burst for HDR tip.

Please Read: The D300 allows Auto-bracketing up to 9 stops with 9 shots. That's -4 to +4 stops and at +4 shutter speeds can get low and motion blur becomes a problem. This will allow you to program the camera to take all 9 shots at varying exposures automatically. Also, apparently you don't need to set the number of frames per interval to 9. It can be set to 1 x 1 = 1 and it will force the camera to take the number of shots configured in auto-bracketing back-to-back. I don't know why it works that way. So if you have bracketing set to 9F and interval timer set to 2 x 1 = 1 it will actually take 18 pictures. (9 at each interval) Another correction on the video: When I have the Interval set for 1 second, and the display reads 5 x 1 = 5 I say that is 5 frames every 5 seconds for a total of 25 seconds. That is wrong, it is one frame every second for 5 frames for a total of 5 seconds. And one last note about auto-bracketing: The feature has a ceiling of 30 seconds to 1/8000 seconds. Any auto-bracketing exposures beyond that will be exposed at 30s or 1/8000s. You must either change your ISO, apeture or use manual/bulb mode beyond those limits.

D300 presents Behind the Challenge: Jill Jayne

The trilogy is complete! Just as D300 adds 15 more elementary schools to their HealthierUS School Challenge tally, the newest video in their community education series is complete. D300 presents Behind the Challenge: Jill Jayne takes a VH1-style behind-the-scenes look at the fated partnership between D300 and Jill Jayne that uniquely defined D300's Healthier US School Challenge nutrition curriculum: rock 'n roll nutrition assemblies for all 17 elementary schools and an original viral video campaign to engage the D300 community. The Challenge is a voluntary USDA program that recognizes schools across the Nation that take specific steps to improve their nutrition and wellness environment and address childhood obesity. As of May 9, 2011 there were 1001 awarded schools across the Nation with a total of 43 in Illinois. D300 now increases the Illinois total to 58 with 16, with D300 schools representing over 25% of the State's total. D300's Golfview Elementary was the first non-charter school in the state to be awarded the Challenge's Gold with Distinction in January, 2011. Since that time, the District began serving their nutritionally improved USDA endorsed Gold level school lunches and implemented the nutrition education and PE requirements at their remaining elementary schools. The District's new healthy school lunch menus have been well received with help from The Rockstar Nutritionist's concurrent nutrition education, which came in the form of a school-wide assembly at ...

Nikon D300 Back-Focus test (works with any DSLR)

A quick and dirty way to check the focus calibration for front-focus or back-focus on any autofocus camera. The D300 is the first camera I'm aware of that allows you to fine tune the autofocus for each lens in software. Please excuse my leet MS Paint skillz. One more note about recomposing the focus: The further away you are from the subject, the larger the arc created when you move the focus off-center which means the less impact you'll have on the focus plane. That means what I say is only true if you are reletively close to the subject. Say within 10 to 15 feet. It all depends on how many dgrees you have to angle the camera to re-compose, as well as what your f-stop is. Generally you only have to worry about it if you have a wide apeture, like 2.8 or 1.4.

A demonstration of how the GPS interface works and what to expect. The built-in GPS interface requires the GPS receiver to be set to protocol NEMA IN NEMA OUT.
