Tidbits - Nikon D5000 - Set Auto-Exposure Lock To Toggle (Vs. Button Hold)

A little how-to on how to set the Auto-Exposure Lock (or AE-L) button on your Nikon D5000 from having to hold it down to toggle, or pressing the button once and having it lock. Auto-Exposure Lock is one of the features I was very interested in since the first day I got my Nikon D5000, but I just recently figured out how to switch it to toggle. Needless to say it's made my life much easier--it's a feature that's very easy to actually set up, but a little tricky to figure out where on your camera to do so. When Auto-Exposure Lock is NOT on, and your subject is going to be under relatively the same lighting conditions throughout the length of that clip, you may notice jittery lighting conditions in your video which can look unprofessional (and frankly kind of annoying). The AE-L button fixes this though! By default, you must hold the AE-L button when you've reached your desired exposure and it will lock it, thereby eliminating the jittery lighting you may be experiencing. However, if you are taking a self-portrait video, or...you just don't feel like holding down the button for five minutes, setting AE-L to toggle will allow you to set up your shot, and then simply press the button once and your exposure will remain locked. A quick and easy way to make your videos a little bit more professional. Thanks! Nikon D5000 Lens and Video Test Footage 55-200/18-55/70-300

Getting a feel for the Nikon D5000 with three tele lenses. Nikkor 55-200 Nikkor 18-55 Nikkor 70-300 Lighting was from a 95 watt house lamp with a yellow lamp shade attached. Tripod was a cheap dynex video tripod. I was too lazy to go and get the manfrotto. So there is wobble in the video and shake. In my opinion the video is decent, I will be using this d5000 as a B camera to my HMC150 for some shoots. Definitely not the best camera for DSLR video but with a decent lens collection I feel it's very possible to create some very extraordinary scenes in the right hands. There is a lot of CMOS "wobble" when moving around too much, a good tripod is highly recommended.

handgrip for nikon D5000

new handgrip for my nikon d5000. its good for the money, lets u secure ur camera to ur hand, with out having the feeling of it dropping, still able to use ur neck strap, comfortable, breathable, easy to put on and get off. id say get it if ur gonna be holding ur camera for long periods of time and u might want to let ur hand drop down with out the neck strap restricting u and still have the camera in ur hand to be ready to take the shot that might pop up at any moment. i take good critism, but no need to be a clown and talk trash. feel free to subscribe

Nikon SB-400 and Zeikos D5000 Battery Grip Review

Nikon SB-400 Speedlight Flash and Zeikos D5000 Battery Grip Overview on a Nikon D5000 After a few days, the battery grip was becoming to much of a burden for me to carry around. It added a small but very noticeable amount of weight to my already heavy lens, which I did not need. I returned it, and glad I did. I'll be using that money towards a 35mm 1.8 lens now. As for the SB-400, I LOVE IT! I decided not to get the SB-600 because I was happy with SB-400 and its compact size, and while the SB-600 has more features, the portability of the SB-400 is amazing. I'm an on-the-go, hang-out-with-family-and-friends, hobbyist photographer. I used to carry a big bag with three lens which was hassle. Now all I carry is my D5000, 18-270mm all-around lens, SB-400, and spare battery. All I'll ever need, and very happy this way.
