Dancing Queen - ABBA

Dancing Queen - ABBA was one of the most commercially successful acts in the history of popular music. This act was at the wedding of Charles and Silvia Gustaff . The Swedish pop music group topped the charts worldwide from 1972 until it broke up in 1982. ABBA has never officially announced the end of the group, but they have long been considered as dissolved. ABBA sold nearly 370 million records worldwide. ABBA was formed in Sweden by Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida, born 15 November 1945), Björn Ulvaeus (born 25 April 1945), Benny Andersson, born 16 December 1946, (the "B-boys") and Agnetha Fältskog (Anna, born 5 April 1950), or the two married couples (Ulvaeus-Fältskog, and Andersson-Lyngstad). They still sell two to three million records a year. "Muriel's Wedding," "The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert," and musical plays/movies " Mamma Mia!" revived interest in the group. Before forming ABBA, the four worked as solo singers for a number of years. Their first song as foursome: "People Need Love" was released in June 1972 when the privately adopted "ABBA" as the group name, using their first name initials as acronym. "Abba" means father or dad in Aramaic, Urdu and Hebrew languages. "Waterloo" in 1974 was ABBA's first number one single in big markets such as the UK, Germany, Australia, and even in the USA. ABBA went on to release "SOS," "Mamma Mia," "Fernando," "Money Money Money," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," and "Dancing Queen". With over seven superhits under ...

Abba - Dancing Queen

Recording of Dancing Queen started in August 1975. It was inspired by George McCrae's 1974 disco classic Rock Your Baby. It was released in August 1976, and was instantly a huge wordwide hit. It was no. 1 for 14 weeks in Sweden, and 6 weeks in UK. Stig recalls "One day I found a note in my office with a telephone number on it. I gave it to Gorel and said 'Can you call them'. She replied 'It's not a telephone number, it's the latest sales figures for Dancing Queen in Britain'". Frida recalls "I loved the song from the very beginning. Coming back from the studio, Benny played the backing track to me. It was so beautiful that I started to cry. I mean, even without lyrics or voices on it, it was outstanding." Dancing Queen is Abba's best known song, and continues to fill dance floors the world over to this day. This performance is from the November 1978 Japan tv show "Abba Special". From Arrival album. Frida & The Real Group - Dancing Queen

"Dancing Queen" is a hit single recorded by Swedish pop group ABBA. It was the follow-up single to the massive hit "Fernando". Dancing Queen was written by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Stig Anderson and is considered by many to be their signature song. Recorded in 1975 for the group's album Arrival, and released as a single the following year with "That's Me" as the B-side. It reached the No.1 position on the popular music charts in approximately 13 countries. In May, 2004, The British performing rights group Phonographic Performance Limited celebrated its 70th anniversary by listing the 70 songs that have played most in Great Britain on the radio, in clubs and on jukeboxes. On this list "Dancing Queen" featured at number 6. The site aperfectdj.com lists "Dancing Queen" at place no. 7 of the most requested songs from DJs in the US in 2007. "Dancing Queen" features the shared lead vocal performance by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. Its opening keyboard glissando is one of the most instantly recognizable intros in pop music. In 1993, due to the swedish Queen Silvia´s 50th birthday, Anni-Frid Lyngstad was asked if she would perform "Dancing Queen" on stage, just like ABBA had performed the song when the king and queen got married. Frida contacted The Real Group and together they did an a cappella version of the song on stage at The Royal Opera House in Stockholm, in front of the king and queen. The swedish prime minister at that time, Ingvar Carlsson, was ...
