Installing Debian on the N900

Installing Debian on the N900. FilmsByKris.com WARNING!!! I say in the video that you can use Debain and since it's in a chroot you don't need to worry about screwing up your Maemo OS. This is mostly true. But, you can still access your Maemo OS partition so you can still screw files up. So, still be careful.
Debian Gnome + Beryl "3D-Desktop"

Debian GNU/Linux with Gnome Desktop running Beryl/AIGLX for 3D desktop effects. Debian version was "etch" ("testing" at that time). System: AMD64 3500+, 1024 DDR2-400, Geforce 6600GT (but it runs on very old machines, try it out) You can get all themes, styles, icons etc. on gnome-look dot org. The dockbar at the top is part of "gDesklets" (available on official repositories). On gnome-look dot org, search for... "dragon" (wallpaper) "glassy" (icon set) "dark" (color theme, I don't remeber the exact name) You can install everything with the default gnome theme manager. There are a lot of users posting "this is ubuntu" - it's not! The menu icon was part of the default ubuntu icon set I installed before (the new "glassy" icon set does not replace the menu button).

Debian 6.0 Xfce Review - Linux Distro Reviews

A review of the latest Debian Stable, or Debian 6.0 Squeeze with the Xfce desktop environment. A surprisingly lightweight distro with the stability and reliability that Debian is renowned for. Definitely worth giving it a try if you know your way around Linux and want a fast and stable workhorse. Apologies for the extremely tight (possibly rough) edit of this video, you'll notice a few times where I cut myself off from the end of the sentence. I was pressed for time as college has gone back and I was trying to get this rather long video to under 15 min. I didn't succeed...Never mind. My apologies. Also I said "Xfce" when I was actually referring to "VLC" @ 8:05. Ohhh dear...wasn't concentrating.

Why I switched to Debian with Gnome 2 vs Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity or Gnome Shell

In this video I will show you why I switched from Ubuntu to Debian. All Linux Geeks knows Debian is more stable. But, there are other cool features that got my attention. Gnome 2 is surprisingly light on Debian. There is this feature called Deskbar Applet, which is my new favorite for now. Global menu is also cooler on gnome 2. Compiz is a plus with its expose and stuff. Just watch the video and you will see what I mean. My desktop is now stable, prettier, safer, and faster. go to my website: www.necopost.com Check out my Youtube Channel www.youtube.com Linux system: Debian 6 (squeeze) Desktop environment: Gnome 2.30.2 More features added with Compiz, deskbar-applet and gnome-applet-globalmenu Video HD details: Format: WEBM Dimensions: 1280 x 800 px Video codec: VP8 Audio codec: VORBIS screencast app: personal ffmpeg script.

Installing Debian Linux On The Nokia N810 Internet Tablet

Following closely behind the Android simple install earlier this month, users over at Internet Tablet Talk have setup an easy way to install Debian Linux - the full desktop - on the Nokia Internet Tablet. Not to miss out on the fun, I decided to give the Debian a go on my Nokia N810. To note, you'll need about 1.3GB of free memory on either the internal memory or a removable memory card. After the installation, you'll still have 1GB free, but you need to have it all free for the installation process. You'll also need to have the MyTube application installed, so that you can get Python2.5 and Python 2.5-gtk2 installed on your tablet.

I plan to provide Linux tutorials for those who are new to it, configuration tutorials once the Raspberry Pi is out, and programming tutorials following that. Hopefully there will be less 'erms' in the next one! Cheers, Liam.

Linux Mint Debian, Compiz, Tint2 and more explained

Linux Mint Debian appears a potential winner for the race between 'new' Linux desktops. It's Debian and it is Mint - a classic combination for flexibility ('freedom to choose what, where and how'), agility ('speed, response') and stability. No "Unity" toy-desktop or brainy Gnome-3-shell, but Freedom with Elegance. Freedom is the trademark from Linux so far. Freedom to design your own desktop, from an old Laptop to a brand-new high-power PC. THIS VIDEO deals with aspects of the desktop-make-up (with touch-ready side-panel) as I see this. Simple Compiz tricks are demonstrated, like starting a program in a selected Workspace, making an Expo button (launcher) for the side-bar (next to a top-corner hotspot), 3D shadows (but panel without) and using Place to create 'depth', using and moving a small Gnome top panel as part of a nice, programmable, transparent Tint2 panel, briefly you'll see Photoshop running on Mint's LMDE and more... You'll see a maximum usage of real estate with screenlets used to individualise Workspaces. No Terminal usage necessary. Use the PAUSE button to stop the replay and see the details. Yes, LMDE is very agile indeed. It also appeared far more stable than cautiously claimed by Mint. An excellent alternative for immature pre-fixed or too dedicated desktop designs. However, not recommended still for n00bies! This and more will be discussed in my blog at bit.ly Take a test-drive yourself with LMDE. The free music is from Szabo - One Day mix.

Beryl on Debian "Sid" 02-17-07

This is the Beryl 3D-desktop for Linux running on the Debian Linux distribution. This is shown running on an older, single-core PC. Since I'm recording this video on the same PC as the demo, it's a lot more sluggish than normal. Usually Beryl runs smooth as glass, even when the system is under a very high workload. Viva la Linux! :)

Using Nessus on Metasploitable - Debian SSH Keys vulnerability (CVE-2008-0166)

Whilst its great we have tools such as, Back|Track and Nessus - it would be great to have something to practice on without breaking any laws! Enter Metasploitable - blog.metasploit.com Metasploitable is a VMWare image created in non-persistent mode - this means you can boot it, destroy it and boot it again :) It has been compiled with several vulnerable services/applications so you can practice vulnerability scan and exploitations. Today i will scan the running Metasploitable VM (10.44.254.13), with Nessus and then exploit the vulnerable version of Debian SSL, which is the cryptographic service used to create the SSH RSA-Key. It is worth noting that Metasploitable VM was created to be exploited using tools in the popular Exploitation Framework, Metasploit. I am demonstrating the vulnerability scan with Nessus as I am studying it at present.
