Schwarzenegger Signs Law Decriminalizing Marijuana

Daily News @ RevolutionNews.US ~ Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill effectively making possession of up to an ounce of the drug equal to speeding. With this news, opponents of staunch drug laws are now holding their breath, wondering what's next. From the Associated Press "Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a law late Thursday that reduces possession of an ounce or less from a misdemeanor to an infraction, with a maximum punishment of a $100 fine. Even as a misdemeanor, possession of up to an ounce of pot was still punishable only by a $100 fine and no jail time. But offenders also faced arrest, a possible court appearance and a criminal record." Like Proposition 19, which could tear down the rest of the walls around marijuana in the Golden State come November, this move has less to do with the drug and more to do with the money it could make (or, in this case, save) California. Schwarzenegger, himself, said that he didn't support decriminalization but recognized that officers and courts can't afford to "expend limited resources prosecuting a crime that carries the same punishment as a traffic ticket." Decriminalizing Marijuana

Marijuana in St. Lucia should be decriminalized. So says former Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Stephen King. While Dr. King acknowledges the dangerous side effects of the drug, he nevertheless believes that the best way to reduce the impact of the drug is to consider changing the legislation measure against it.
Pat Robertson Calls for Decriminalizing Marijuana

The Christian community in the United States is increasingly calling for an end to the long failed so called "War on Drugs" especially as it pertains to marijuana. The proper name for Marijuana is Cannabis. It is now well recognized the vilification of Cannabis was a long and costly hoax on the American people which prevented competition from thousands of beneficial derivatives of the hemp plant from ever coming to market. This began in the 1930's when powerful publishing magnet William Randolph Hearst was faced with competition from a new invention which would have made the harvesting of hemp for paper as cheap at timber. The far superior paper produced from hemp threatened to make his vast timber holdings worthless. This is when the re-naming and vilification of Cannabis began. Most people at the time were familiar with "Hemp" was but by using and popularizing the Mexican slang word "Marijuana" for the plant, Hearst was able to deceive and scare the people through his yellow journalism and many newspapers. Since that time many other lobbyist have found it profitable to lobby our politicians to continue the lies. The pharmaceutical industry has much to fear, especially from the vast research done worldwide which consistently demonstrate cannabis to be far safer and by far the most effective treatment for a vast array of human disorders, including cancer. Since cannibis is a plant, and a gift from God, there is little profit in it for pharmaceuticals. The benefits, and <b>...</b>

Alan and Steven Proctor are looking to get rid of the stereotype of stoners. The twins, both freshmen at Arizona State University (ASU), started the university chapter of the National Organization for Reform of Marijuana Laws, NORML, last semester, hosting the club's first event on Tuesday — 4/20 or marijuana smokers annual holiday. The group rallied in front of the Memorial Union on the Tempe campus. Alan Proctor, a civil engineering undergraduate, said the most common misconception about people who smoke marijuana is the effect it has on them. When someone thinks about a stoner, they typically think about someone that is lazy and unmotivated, or someone dropping out of school or just not doing their homework because they smoke marijuana, he said. That is all about the individual. Those connotations and labels put on people who smoke, those are not true. Vice president Steven Proctor, a biology major, said the club's first event had a positive response from the public, including many students who stopped by and talked with NORML <b>...</b>

Hempstalk 2008: Keith Stroup of NORML - Decriminalize Marijuana in the US

Keith Stroup, founder of National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), stresses that more progress has been made in the last few years than many years before, in the area of cannabis reform. However, he feels that the focus needs to shift from legalization for medical users to the rest of the population whom enjoys cannabis. He says that it doesn't matter whether cannabis is used for medical, religious or recreational purposes. NDP LEADER JACK LAYTON ON POT: YES I INHALED; CANADA SHOULD TAKE MARIJUANA OUT OF CRIMINAL CODE (aka LEGALIZATION)

NDP Leader Jack Layton: "The first thing to do is get [marijuana] out of the criminal code." SOURCE: MuchMusic JUNE 2004 ----------------------------------------- The Ubyssey Editorial Getting off your high horse with the NDP Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 If youre a fan of maturity, then youve probably been disappointed by this federal election. In one corner, the Conservative Party of Canada. When their war room isnt putting up online ads that show a bird taking a shit on Stéphane Dion, candidates are jokingly wishing the death of an opposition MP. The Liberals arent much better. So far, their defence is pretending that their one bold policy statement—the Green Shift—was a crazy idea that all of us imagined. Their offence is telling the world that Stephen Harper is a bad scary evil man, a strategy that worked wonders for them last time. You would think that out of this leadership vacuum might rise the New Democratic Party, what with a strong set of centre-left policies, and a leader who can actually inspire a crowd. You would be wrong. Take the resignation of local NDP candidates Kirk Tousaw and Dana Larsen. Earlier this month, Tousaw, a former campaign director of the provincial Marijuana Party, was nominated here in Vancouver-Quadra. Larsen, himself the former editor of Cannabis Culture Magazine, was nominated in West VancouverSunshine CoastSea to Sky Country. Legalize Marijuana...

What's next? I'll tell you what's next... Legalizing marijuana. Barack Obama had some kind of town hall meeting on the computer the other day. The number one question people asked Barack Obama is, Will you legalize marijuana? Why do people want it legalized? So they can tax it. Regulate it. Decriminalize it, so we can get some of these people who are sitting in jail right now being payed for by taxpayer money out of there because they really didn't commit a crime. What was Barack Obamas answer? No! Absolutely not! Are you freaking kidding me?! Barack Obama has probably smoked more weed in his lifetime than Tommy Chong. The guy did freaking cocaine for god's sake! Bill Clinton smoked weed. George Bush did cocaine! and these people don't want to legalize drugs? You gotta be kidding me! Let me tell you something... ALL drugs in this country should be legal! If you commit a crime while on drugs, you should be prosecuted for the crime. But NOT for doing drugs! If some guy can hangout all night smoking weed, watching tv wake up in the morning a go to work. Why should that be considered a crime? If some guy can snort cocaine. Go out to a freaking club. Dance, sing, have a great tim then get up in the morning make himself breakfast and wash his car. Why should that be considered a crime? It shouldn't!! if you commit murder while on cocaine, you should be arrested for murder. But NOT for doing cocaine. if you beat somebody up while smoking weed, you should be arrested for assault <b>...</b>

The marijuana debate continues

The Attorney General Office says that cabinet would consider decriminalizing marijuana if that position would receive wide support from members of the public. Attorney General, Rudolph Francis further called for more public debate on the issue and says he would love to see more prominent citizens and institutions speak out on the issue. The statement comes in the wake of calls for the illegal substance to be decriminalized by former Chief Medical Officer; Dr. Stephen King.
