Amazing........simply amazing. I could never fathom the thought of seeing three of these beauties together, and my railfanning goes back to a time when there were still many around. I've seen and rode behind two. But THREE! We are talking three Alco RS3's in the year 2009!! WOW!! I've rode on them too. They are noisy, jolting, rock & roll beast. I dozed off on one while blasting through Oxford, NY one night and was nearly thrown to the other side of the cab when hitting a low rail joint. When they "pop" into transition, watch out!. Hold steady! You could get whiplash! On July 15, 2009, The Delaware Lackawanna railroad put three together for a run from Scranton to Portland PA and return. I had little time, but I tried my best to capture the moment. Where else in the world could this happen? Maybe Brazil?? I do not know. But after they stormed up Mount Pocono on the old Lackawanna mainline at East Stoudsburg, as seen in the last clip, all I could think of was Jerry Lee Lewis' 1957 song, "Whole Lotta' Shaking Going On". Like the DL running these antiques in 2009, Jerry Lee was a rebel of Rock and to make matters more interesting, after some research, I found that that very song entered the "Top 40" on this very same day, July 15th, in 1957, and stayed there for 20 weeks. Amazing.....simply amazing. Let's stroll back to that day with that defiant song blasting on the car radio as three "Lackawanna" RS3s yank a freight west through the PA mountains.
