Unboxing my new Dell Inspiron 1525
I received my new Dell Inpiron 1525, today so i put up an unboxing video. My 1525 is loaded with an Intel Core2Duo T7250 2.0Ghz processor, 2GB RAM, 120GB HDD, Creative Sound Blaster Audigy sound card, Windows Vista Home Premium, 15.4" Anti-glare High res. 1200x800 screen, BT wireless mouse, Dell's new Glossy Black 'Street' pattern, built-in 2MP webcam,and a 8X DVD+/- writer. Ports: HDMI output port, 4 USB ports, 1 Firewire port, Monitor connector, 1 Ethernet, 1 telephone port, 2 headphon ports and 1 mic port. 1525 is 30% smaller and slimmer than the previous dell inspiron models and the new Glossy Street pattern is stunning. www.corbettsworld.com - As always Im looking for great travel gadgets and for me the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook is a great item for taking on the road. The days are long gone since you had to have the hassle of a 15 inch thick laptop to lug around, now you can nicely fit this beautiful 10.1 inch netbook into your day sack and take it wherever you go! Even though this little black beauty is very small, it doesnt feel delicate or flimsy. It feels tight and solid, almost like if you were to drop it then it wouldnt do to much damage, I havent tried this though and dont recommend you do either. Looking around the laptop you immediately notice there is no CD Rom however this is not that important as you can buy an external CD Rom and of course you can transfer data on to the netbook via a memory stick. On the left hand side you have a connection for the power supply, a USB port and a card reader slot. On the right hand side is an Ethernet slot, Two more USB ports as well as a HDMI port and finally Two slots for a microphone and headphones. Just above the 10.1 inch screen is a built in webcam and microphone which is great for the talking over the internet on Skype and MSN etc. One concern of mine was the size of the keyboard and the difficulties this may cause for typing but the keyboard is a great size and I have had no problems typing except for the normal mistakes that I make whilst spelling. REVIEW FROM CNET: Unlike traditional convertible tablets, which have screens that rotate 180 degrees horizontally, the Inspiron Duo screen flips 180 degrees vertically--hinged in the middle of the lid. When the screen is flipped over and the lid closed, the system launches a touch-friendly interface for interacting with photos, videos, and music (and returns to the basic Windows desktop when the transformation is reversed). The flipping motion worked well on our demo unit, although the hinge felt a little loose. You have to take care to turn the screen only in the correct direction, essentially pushing the top of the screen back through the lid. Also, the screen occasionally collided with the keyboard with an audible thunk if we weren't careful about opening the laptop body wide enough for proper clearance. The touch interface has large, finger-friendly icons for photos, video, e-books, a paint program, and more. But the response time when launching tablet-based apps was painfully slow. Thanks to a Broadcom HD chip, video playback was smooth after the first few jittery seconds, but the photo gallery program's pinch-to-zoom function was sluggish. The interfaces for the different parts of this media hub, however, are pleasingly clean and simple. With zippier hardware it could be a solid multimedia product, and the built-in speakers were surprisingly loud--good enough, at least, for movie playback to a small audience. But even better-sounding was the optional JBL speaker <b>...</b>

As Jolicloud is built from Ubuntu, so to speak, I believed the touchscreen fix provided by shartke for Ubuntu Netbook Remix would be applicable for Jolicloud aswell. As you can see from the video, this was in fact the case. Please see below on the process for getting this to work with the Duo: 1. Install Jolicloud. Once in the system, open Terminal (pres Fn+alt+F1 by default) and run 'sudo apt-get update' then 'sudo apt-get upgrade', once done, finally run 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' 2. Reboot the system, open Terminal again and run 'gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub' This will open a text file, find the line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" and replace it with: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i8042.noloop=1 usbhid.quirks=0x0eef:0x725e:0x40" Then click 'Save' and close gEdit. 3. In Terminal run 'sudo update-grub' let the command run its course, then, reboot. After the reboot you should have a working touchscreen! A few extras that are seen in the video: 1. My review on the Dell Inspiron N5010 15R i5 460m 2.53 ghz with 6GB DDR3, ATI 550V 1GB, 640GB HDD, 15.6" LCD that i got form costco.com they are not on the site anymore it was only on sell for about a week. and i am unable to find this model on dell site with the ati chip set. so i am not sure if this can be found anymore or was a costco exclusive. sorry for the poor editing. This was the first edit i have done with the software provided on the laptop. I have not installed my usual editing software yet.
