Theme from the movie Gregory's Girl - Colin Tully

Besides being a great film, the soundtrack by saxman Colin Tully is absolutely brilliant and fits perfectly with the lighthearted tone of the movie. The soundtrack was never released in the US and is hard to find in England (and I'm still looking...) Colin's played with the underrated Cado Belle & John Martyn. This is the theme song from the movies intro, and piggybacked is a longer version over the closing credits.

Please forgive the random pops, this tape is about dead and nearly impossible to get to track right. Clip is rare enough that I thought I'd post regardless. Laurie Sargent is one of my favorite front people on the planet and this song was killer.

Eric Johnson - Mountains AKA Venus Reprise - Live

This tune turned up on Venus Isle as Venus Reprise as a short outro with no vocals. I had this on some old audio tapes and a couple were entitled "Mountains" by the tape traders (Eric calls it a Reprise Jam here.) I talked to Tommy Taylor at the NAMM show one year and asked about this song, referring to it as Mountains and he didn't correct me. Tommy told me he really liked the song, and it would be on the next CD. It was, but in an abbreviated instrumental form. Think you'll like this one better. You can tell Eric is testing ideas in the song, and the vocal line is just gorgeous. Hope he releases it in this form someday... Also have a different audio only posted in my folder.

Smile - Sailor at The Starwood, Hollywood - 01/20/79

In the mid to late 70's, the holy trinity of Sunset Strip bands was Van Halen, A La Carte and Smile. Smile were by far and away the most melodic of the three. Sailor is a gorgeous ballad that was the soundtrack to a lot of kids lives back in the day. Tommy Girvin (guitar) plays with Eddie Money nowadays. Jimmy Volpe (drummer) played with Eulogy (Rusty Anderson, now with Paul McCartney), Warrior, and now with Pat O'Brian and the Priests of Love. The great Scott Waller (singer) has been a stage manager for years and has toured with the likes of Aerosmith, KISS and The Rolling Stones. Really miss seeing these guys... A La Carte - Fairview Boogie - A&M Studios Video Demo, 1980

I'm the world's biggest A La Carte fan next to Mr. Paul Cummings. A La Carte were local legends in the mid-to-late 70's & early 80's around Los Angeles. They were equally billed with bands like Van Halen & headlined huge hall shows. They've recently been gigging again (hope to post some of that, they're even tighter now, if that's possible) and Kevin recently did a session with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.

Courtesy of Brian Webster, 9 minutes of Mechanics goodies circa 1979. Brian always had an 8MM camera around before there were VHS camera's. In order of appearance: 3 minutes of old flyers, set to the tune of the 'B' side of our single which I still hate :-) Filthy limericks set to hanging around at the Fullerton studio. Feel free to kill the volume on these. Mike Couden still reads dirty limericks better than anyone. Cool 8MM Mechanics footage at The Hong Kong Cafe with dubbed music. I can't thank Brian enough for making this. Nowadays kids have their lives saved in digital quality, 30 years ago this is all we had.

Rusty Anderson & Randy Carr Manic Depression Backyard Party

My friend, the late great Randy Carr gave me this and I thought I'd lost it. This is Randy, Rusty Anderson, Sean Brown, Jon Nichols and Craig Riech, The Unholy Groovepushers! Rusty (now with Paul McCartney) used to play in a dive-bomb Jeff Beck style, which no one seems to believe when I tell them, given the 60's melodic way he plays nowadays. This is Rusty at his old best! Wanted to add this is Randy in his element, doing the big Mitch Mitchell and Ginger Baker style he loved. The very concept that Social Distortion booted him out of their band just makes me laugh my ass off. Click WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY! :-)

The Brian Webster Experience - Strutter

Brian (OC sound guru, 1st guy to record Metallica) got a bunch of us old OC musicians together for a day of train-wreck jamming circa' 1990. Dick (singer), Mike (bassist, ex-Mechanics) and Brian (guitar) used to play together in high school. Now about my EKO Rocket... :-) I'm playing the baby blue EKO Rocket (actually called a Rokes, named after an Italian psych group). I kick myself everyday for letting this one go to Japan. When I found it, it had been sitting in a wine celler in the midwest since 1967, and was brand new in the case with the tags still on it. Actually a 12 string and had a single D'Armand pickup in the neck position. A thing of absolute beauty...

The Mechanics - Carburation Generation at The Starwood 1981

Probably the best Mechanics song, later covered (splendidly) by Rikk Agnew's band Poop & released as a 45. Filmed at one of our last shows. Side note, Ozzy Osbourne was supposed to do a surprise show this night, KROQ let the cat out of the bag, so he cancelled out. Ozzy heads still showed up in droves and the last band got bottled off. Sorry for the horrible audio quality :-) Couldn't believe I found this in my tapes. This is awesome.
