John Derbyshire Fired by National Review

The National Review has fired longtime columnist John Derbyshire following an article he wrote for an online magazine that was widely viewed as racist in nature. "[Derbyshire's] latest provocation, in a webzine, lurches from the politically incorrect to the nasty and indefensible," National Review editor Rich Lowry wrote in a statement posted late Saturday night. "We never would have published it, but the main reason that people noticed it is that it is by a National Review writer. Derb is effectively using our name to get more oxygen for views with which we'd never associate ourselves otherwise. So there has to be a parting of the ways."

John Derbyshire racist? He wrote that white people should try to avoid black areas

Writer John Derbyshire wrote an article in Taki magazine to avoid black areas and aovid group of black teens. He wrote this; (10a) Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally. (10b) Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods. (10c) If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date (neglect of that one got me the closest I have ever gotten to death by gunshot). (10d) Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks. (10e) If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible. (10f) Do not settle in a district or municipality run by black politicians. (10g) Before voting for a black politician, scrutinize his/her character much more carefully than you would a white. (10h) Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, eg, on the highway. (10i) If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving. But recently in the news all over the nation there have been documented incidents of blacks attacking whites for no other reason but racism. So was Derbyshire right? Apparently Derbyshire is seeing a trend most of the Liberal media refused to talk about or report. Hundreds of racist Black youths attack Whites at Wisconsin State Fair

Delia Derbyshire of the Radiophonic Workshop BBC

Delia Ann Derbyshire (5 May 1937 3 July 2001) was an English musician and composer of electronic music and musique concrète. She is best known for her electronic realisation of Ron Grainer's theme music to the British science fiction television series Doctor Who and for her work with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Some of her most acclaimed work was done in the 1960s in collaboration with the British artist and playwright Barry Bermange for the BBC's Third Programme, which was later renamed BBC Radio 3. Besides the Doctor Who theme, Derbyshire also composed and produced scores, incidental pieces and themes for nearly 200 BBC Radio and BBC TV programmes.

Delia Derbyshire - Love Without Sound (1969)

Delia Derbyshire is well known for her work with the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and her help in creating the Dr.Who theme. Of all the BBC Radiophonic musicians I've heard I always found Delia's music to be more aesthetically mature than that of the others. While many were content to create mathematically structured enharmonic noise she looked for the ghost in the machine, creating haunting, off kilter and often sexually charged music. This track is from the 1969 The White Noise - Electric Storm LP. To me it sounds 30 years ahead of it's time. I hope you like it. The Women of ELECTRONIC MUSIC! From the 30's to the 70's! Before synthesizers, electronic music was honed the hard way in universities, by splicing tape loops, distorting sounds, endless dubbing, and blind instinct. Here are the timeless women of future music who created our present... Since the 1930's, CLARA ROCKMORE was the master of the notoriously difficult Theremin, and later championed by synthesizer-creator Bob Moog; LOUIS & BEBE BARRON created the first all-electronic score for the film "FORBIDDEN PLANET" (1957), using oscillated sounds and tape loops; //STUDIO d'ASSAI (Paris): Danish ELSE MARIE PADE studied under musique concrete founder Pierre Schaeffer, becoming a noted composer; ELAINE RADIGUE used the Buchla and Arp synthesizers in her work, heavily influenced by Buddhist meditation, and records now with laptop improv group The Lappetites; MICHELE BOKANOWSKI has composed for film, televison, and theatre; //BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP (London): ...was created and directed by DAPHNE ORAM, inventor and sonic pioneer; she was followed by DELIA DERBYSHIRE, who brought Ron Grainer's "DR. WHO" theme to brilliant, eerie life with her studio wizardry; MADDALENA FAGANDINI co-created the proto-Techno single "Time Beat/ Waltz In Space" (1962) with young producer George Martin under the alias 'Ray Cathode'; GLYNIS JONES produced some of the Workshop's classic albums like "Out Of This World" (1976); ELIZABETH PARKER scored many BBC shows including "BLAKE'S 7", and was the ...

Images of England - Derbyshire Peak District and Arbor Low

I took these pictures of parts of the Derbyshire Peak District in November 2007. This clip features a few slides of Arbor Low, a late Neolithic/early Bronze Age henge which dates from around 2500 BC. This henge's stones are lying down now, but (controversially) no holes of any substance have been found to support the idea of them ever having stood erect. Doubtless, this theory will continue to be studied and discussed. However, these uncertainties, together with this place's prehistory, conjure mystery and fascination - what was the purpose of this stone circle and its enclosing earthwork? What was in the collective mind of the ancient peoples of Derbyshire? Arbor Low and similar places throughout Britain consumed resources - a significant diversion from local (mainly agrarian) economic activity. It's been estimated for example that the henge's construction required the removal of 4000 tons of limestone - an utterly prodigious, amazing feat nearly five thousand years ago for the ancient Britons. By contrast however, emphatically NOT for ancient Egyptians, who at almost the same time were building the Great Pyramid - an altogether more sophisticated enterprise!. How the World ebbs and flows in its ever-shifting culture and centres of power. It's hard for us today to understand big shifts in the greater timeline of our world - indeed, that Britain was almost at the Equator when Derbyshire's basically coral reef geology was being formed. At any rate, we ask: why did these ...
