This is a rough edit of something we knocked together at work. We made a digital graffiti window with $10 worth of parts and some tech know how. It was fun and here's a taste of what people did with it. It's on our office window on L2 of Saatchi & Saatchi - come have a play.

Lowlands is a huge three-day music festival close to Amsterdam and one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Supported by Converse, Lowlands attracts exactly the target market the brand is trying to influence. Tangible set-up a Digital Graffiti Wall inside a shipping container for Converse so it could be enjoyed day and night. Cons hi and low-top shoe graphics provided a blank canvas for festival goers to decorate using digital spray paint to create their own unique designs. Walking down the main street of Reykjavik I noticed part of a wall in a lane was glowing. I double took, discovered "digital graffiti" and was very impressed.

Colored light of significance bathes all as it moves on. The audio is bombastic, ears please forgive. Info about the place and trip on the the Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach home page. Date: June 12, 2010. Video does not show the best things, just the ones with reasonable photos. I would need way more time to treat these as the artworks that they are, given what the artist put into it and the judges chose. Obviously there are threshold criteria such as resolution and how they fit on the walls and other things I can't imagine. Requirements are not specified in detail. But above that, content is deep. I didn't get beyond the surface. This video shows what it feels like to be there, particularly how the art blends with the architecture and the natural setting. Trees and grasses. Also it captures some of the spontaneous expressions, joyful dancing, moments with fountains, a grooving DJ. I drove through Alys Beach in the afternoon and saw nothing unusual. How the whole place was transformed into a light and sound environment by dark at 8:30 pm is amazing. There are vendors for refreshments, continuous sound everywhere, lasers and spotlights carving the dark into wonderful colored sculptures. I wish I could go back, see the projections and parts I missed, read all the descriptions. Ponder its art. If you were there June 12 or took pictures, did you find the Alys Beach Easter egg? Walk the streets of Alys Beach, Florida, guided by the full moon on the Emerald Coast, surrounded by digital graffiti in color and sound projected on the sleek whitewashed walls of the architecture of this unique communal experiment of green, sustainable, and hurricane-facing living. The tiny ubiquitous projectors were beta models not for sale until later in 2009.
