Her crime? Not letting the officer or his partner into her apartment building right away. The incident happened on Nov. 29 and Doreen Salazar said she still has nightmares about it. "I heard banging on the window and 'Cops, let me in,'" said Salazar. Salazar is disabled and can barely see unless an item is right in front of her face. She said she wasn't even sure who was pounding on the door to her apartment complex until she moved closer to the glass door. When the officers were at the door, she was checking her mail. "I told them management told me, if you are not here for me, I do not have to let you in," said Salazar. But according to surveillance video obtained by 7NEWS, Salazar quickly opened the door for the officers at which point she went back to her mailbox to get her mail. That is when she said one officer started cursing at her. "Started yelling at me, telling me, 'Am I crazy? When I am told to do something by the police you better do it,'" said Salazar. There's no audio on the surveillance tape, but a person can visibly see the officer pointing his finger at Salazar. "He was mad, he was so mad," said Salazar. The Denver Police Department would not comment on the incident. They would not release any reports or ...

A Los Angeles policeman has been filmed punching a disabled woman in the face on a bus after she called him a "big shot". Jermaine Green, who was on the bus with his fiancee Violet Roberts, claimed the police also tried to intimidate him after he refused to hand over his mobile with video of the attack. Mr Green told NBC LA he first noticed the disabled woman, who has not been named, when she boarded the bus with a pram full of pillows, saying: "It was very obvious that she had special needs." The deputies got on at the next stop and called the woman by name, ordering her to get off, Mr Green said, who recently returned to the US after serving six years in the US army. When she refused and started swearing they grabbed her and tried to force her to leave, prompting her to yell at the male deputy, he said. "She calls him a 'big shot', and the next thing you know he gives her a big shot," Mr Green said, adding that the deputy saw that he was being filmed before he hit the woman. Mr Greens claims the deputies then demanded his phone. "He comes to me and says 'look you can be under arrest if you don't give me that video'," Mr Green said. Ms Roberts said she was shocked the deputies resorted to violence. "It looked like they were tired of dealing with her, they didn't try to talk to her at all," she said. A spokesman for the sheriff's office told LA Weekly that the police approached the woman after a report that she had "almost attacked" an elderly man, Huffington Post reports ...

Three suspects, held in the death of a disabled woman, are accused of beating her, putting a pepper seed in one of her eyes, and wrapping her arms and hands with bandages so she couldn't remove it, Utah authorities said. (March 30)

Daily News @ RevolutionNews.US — (Austin TX) Early Wednesday morning, a computer glitch shut down a security checkpoint for a couple of hours at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The line snaked out the door as many travelers waited for more than an hour and some missed their flights. One of the first people in line after that shutdown never made it through. She was arrested and banned from the airport. Claire Hirschkind, 56, who says she is a rape victim and who has a pacemaker-type device implanted in her chest, says her constitutional rights were violated. She says she never broke any laws. But the Transportation Security Administration disagrees. Hirschkind was hoping to spend Christmas with friends in California, but she never made it past the security checkpoint. "I can't go through because I have the equivalent of a pacemaker in me," she said. Hirschkind said because of the device in her body, she was led to a female TSA employee and three Austin police officers. She says she was told she was going to be patted down. "I turned to the police officer and said, 'I have given no due cause to give up my constitutional rights. You can wand me,'" and they said, 'No, you have to do this,'" she said. Hirschkind agreed to the pat down, but on one condition. "I told them, 'No, I'm not going to have my breasts felt,' and she said, 'Yes, you are,'" said Hirschkind. When Hirschkind refused, she says that "the police actually pushed me to the floor, (and) handcuffed me. I ...

The view on the promenade outside Jazz By The Bay near Churchgate Station was one of euphoria and inspiration. Over 100 women on wheelchair and hundreds of other supporters held placards of solidarity that read "You Don't See What We Can Do, Who's Disabled -- We or You", "Women on Wheels are Women of Steel" and "SpiceJet, Jet Airways: Shame On Your Ways", "Stop Discrimination In The Name of Disability" etc. Dr. Mithu Alur, Founder-Chairperson -- ADAPT, explained the need for the solidarity protest, "It is shocking that women with disability -- be they with hearing, visual or physical impairment -- are left out of almost everything, including women's movements. Hence, a lot of violence goes on with them without anything ever being done against it. So we decided to come out and tell the public directly how women with disability have been left out." She added, "There is legislation in the country but despite this Jeeja Ghosh was thrown out of a SpiceJet flight and a few days later Anjlee Agarwal from a Jet Airways flight. What is the point of legislation if there is no enforcement? There are many such cases of violation that have been noted in the country. Unless punitive action is taken against the airlines or anyone else discriminating against people based on disability, there won't be any change. We also hope to get the aviation ministry's notice by this protest." Dr. Ketna Mehta, Editor and Associate Dean -- Research, Welingkar's Institute and Founder Trustee of Nina ...

July 5th 2008 was the premier of the OT Celebration and Freewinds Maiden Voyage in Los Angeles, CA. Scientology was scared that Anonymous would show up and spread truth to it's members; their only defense would be to abuse the city's permits dept and block off a ridiculous amount of space, restricting access to a residential neighborhood as well as a HOSPITAL. In doing so they attempt to stop a 61 year old disabled woman in a walker from using the sidewalk to go home. Unfortunately for them she has balls of steel and tells them exactly where they can stuff it. Please keep all comments and debates civil, no vulgarities, ECT... Update: The criminal minors were thankfully prosecuted as adults. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Second teenager is sentenced in Ohio beating Hamilton, Ohio - The Oxford Press reports that a Hamilton teenager has been sentenced to 39 years in prison for his part in the beating of 19-year-old Ashley Clark, who is developmentally disabled, in February. Joseph Nagle, 17, of Progress Lane, pleaded guilty in July to aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, complicity to aggravated robbery, felonious assault, two counts of kidnapping and vandalism for assaulting Ashley Clark, 19, all day Feb. 22. Nagle faced a total of 59 years in prison. Last month, Nagle's girlfriend and codefendant, Cheyenne Blanton, 17, was sentenced by Butler County Common Pleas Judge Andrew Nastoff to 44 years in prison for the same charges. As reported in an earlier FRIDA post, Nagle and Blanton were accused of binding, gagging and beating Ashley Clark, sometimes with a baseball bat, for at least six hours at her home. The abuse included shaving her head, dousing her in a cold shower, and forcing her to walk barefoot in the snow. Her pleas to her assailants not to strike her in the head because she had had brain surgery went unheeded, she told the police. The couple, who have a baby together, also plotted to steal the car belonging to Ashley Clark's mother, Sheila Clark. Source fridanow.blogspot.com www.oxfordpress.com I think the laws ...
