Ilijan-South of Batangas has a treasure trove of unexplored reefs which was described by UP marine biologists as 'virgin reef territory'. Beyond its vibrant and colorful house reefs lies Verde Island, which was but a 15 minute boat ride from Ilijan, which conversely was but a 30 minute drive from Batangas pier. I've drowned my camera last week trying to document the beautiful virgin house reefs of Ilijan... this weekend though, the Ilijan Community Development Foundation (ICDF) founded and headed by Rollie Silang & run by project officer Eric Landicho gave us a special treat, providing us a boat to explore Verde. Its nice to know there is actually a shorter, more cost effective and convenient way to get to the 'center of the center of marine biodiversity'. Diving Verde is as always a major treat.

The PM put on a diving suit and dived deep into the Taman Bay where, to everyone's utter surprise, he managed to find two ancient amphorae dating back to the 6th century AD. Putin said he had seen at a depth of about two meters -- the sea was still and the water transparent. The chief archeologist explained to Putin that amphorae often broke when the ancient ships were loaded or unloaded, so the sailors just threw them into the sea.
