The bass drum sound came from the Doepfer A105 SSM 24db lowpass filter (very fat) Oscillators from the AFG and Dalek along with the A-117noise/808 cowbell source were used as perccussion sounds and were processed thu the Livewire FrequenSteiner filter - I used the hp ouput - very gnarley sounding.

The DARK TIME is a fantastic analog sequencer. It has MIDI, CV / Gate and also TRIGGER IN / OUT for vintage sequencers or rhythm machines. In my opinion, it is much more comfortable than the Korg SQ-10, which I had. The steps run not just forwards - they also can run backwards or in random. Also a great feature is the quantizer - like on the ARP sequencer. In MIDI mode, the two rows can send at two different MIDI channels. The DOEPFER DARK TIME was originally designed to be used with the DOEPFER DARK ENERGY synth, but you can use it with every synthesizer which has MIDI or CV/GATE. Sometimes (it depends on your synth) you will need a converter or a additional interface (for example: ARP needs +12 volts to trigger the envelopes instead of +5V; Also the Minimoog needs a switch trigger). I always wanted a sequencer like this! I played the Doepfer DARK TIME with ARP ODYSSEY, MINIMOOG, KORG MS-20, KORG MONO/POLY and YAMAHA TQ-5. There is also a sequence, where the Dark Time is synced with a Roland CR-78 (through trigger signals, not MIDI) and controls an ARP Odyssey at the same time.

This is my custom made Doepfer modular system. I choosed the modules very carefully. I started from Doepfers "basic configuration" and expanded this configuration to my needs. For real flexibility I needed at least 3 oscillators, 3 ADSR, filter bank, 3 filters, and so on. Ext audio input is great. Injecting back (in "ext audio" input) the output of the Dark Energy can give interesting results. Sequenced by a Yamaha DX200. Final output (not the feedback) goes through a VF1 Allen & Heath filter (set to 24 dB HP+BP with moderate enveloppe following and a good amount of resonance).

"When I die I'm going to Analog Heaven" Tune made using just a Doepfer Dark Energy, an Electro Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man and an FM radio. The snare and hi hats were made by patching white noise from the radio into the the Dark Energy external input, which was processed by the filter and ADSR envelope. The kick was made by patching the ADSR envelope into VCO frequency CV input. Each track was played via midi from the sequencer and recorded individually. Once recorded no other processing was applied to the individual tracks. (There is a touch of limiting across the entire mix to control the overall level, but thats it.) www.23seconds.org

Yesterday I bought my new modular A-100. I picked it up personally from Dieter Doepfer near Munich. We talked much about analog equipment... Dieter Doepfer is a very nice guy, who listen to users... Thank you! Later, at home, I put the A-100 together (It was easier than I thought) and here are the first experiments... I played the Korg MonoPoly through the A-100. Mainly you hear the external signal processor, filters and the voltage controlled phaser. I also used the Lexicon MPX500 and Roland DEP-5 fx processors.

Legendary Bass Synth Roland TB303 has many clones trying to create that unique gnarly modulated bass sound made popular by techno, house and similar dance music styles. Doepfer also created modules for his great modular synth system A-100 to achieve such sounds. Here I used 1 A-110 VCO (TB303 also has but one VCO ... I tried the A-111 but it's too softish); A-103 3-pole lowpass filter (although according to Wikipedia the TB303 had a 4-pole filter contrary to public belief); A-142 Decay/Gate Envelope (TB303's envelope only had a Decay parameter) - Doepfer's A-142 allows VC modulation which I used to create some kind of note slide effect which seems essential). At the beginning I use a square wave and after a few bars I switch to sawtooth. I created a house music kind of track to show how it sounds in a musical setup. Other equipment I use: Studio Electronics SE1x for subbass, Cwejman SE1 MK2 for the sweeping sound; Virus TI2 for housy keys; NI Maschine for all drums and vocal hits. Enjoy! This is a patch I created using my new Doepfer modular synthesizer. Basically, the LFO (A143-3) I'm tweaking goes into the clock divider (A160) and clock sequencer(A161), giving me the gates to trig the quad ADSR (A143-2). I'm using three filters, one set to resonate (making the tinkly sound) and another resonating swept very low for the kick. The source is white noise. Hope you like it! (By the way, although the Doepfer is going through a Nanoverb, it's bypassed. The reverb you hear is the A199 Doepfer Spring Reverb.)

In this patch I have two Plan B VCO's going into the MOTM Triple Resonator VCF. Each oscillator has it's own output fed from this filter to the left and right inputs of the amplifier. The Doepfer A-149(Source of Uncertainty) is modulating the filter and giving that kind of rhythm like if you spin a quarter. Towards the end of the quarter's rotation you hear it spinning faster. Get it? :) A MOTM LFO is controlling the Clock on the Doepfer A-149.

Dark Energy raw almost. Just the "bing" got some reverb. Tweek around during recording. VCO frequency was modulated thru the MIDI/CV Converter (very nice). VCF frequency was modulated by velocity parameter. Drum sounds made with Ableton's Operator. The high "Bing" was also made with Dark Energy. I compressed the master bus the keep the string varying DE volume more constant. I hope you enjoy!
