Los Angeles Pet Adoption - Why Adopt from an Animal Shelter (TakePart TakesOn)

THE AMANDA FOUNDATION - THE ISSUE: ANIMAL SHELTERS & ANIMAL ADOPTION If you're thinking about adding a dog or cat to your family, adopt a pet instead of buying one from a pet store or breeder. The cute dogs in pet store windows often come from puppy mills, where they are kept in filthy, overcrowded and cruel conditions. By adopting your next pet, you are not only saving an animal from being killed but also getting the best companion in the world and preventing puppy mills from thriving. 1) TAKE THE PLEDGE! Pledge to adopt your next pet from an animal shelter. bit.ly 1) DONATE TO THE AMANDA FOUNDATION HERE! amandafoundation.org 2) LEAVE a COMMENT or a VIDEO RESPONSE telling us why you think it's a good idea to adopt a pet from an animal shelter. Fiona the Dog Rescue Story

This is not my video. The video was made by this wonderful animal rescue group called Hope for Paws (hopeforpaws.org). It's an amazing story about how they rescued a blind dog from certain death and brought it back to health. Warmed my heart and brought a tear to my eyes. There are still good people in the world. Please donate to this organization if you can. ***************************************** Fiona the dog nursed back to health "When Eldad and Audrey Hagar found Fiona in a pile of trash in Los Angeles, she was in bad shape. She was sick, blind and covered in fleas. The couple, who founded an LA-based animal rescue organization called Hope for Paws, cleaned up and started to road to recovery for Fiona, a poodle mix. The couple started a national fundraising drive and collected enough money to pay for Fiona's $4000 eye surgery to replace a lense in one eye. The other eye was too badly damaged to be saved. After her surgery, Fiona was and adopted and is reportedly doing great. Watch her amazing story" wj.la

Adoptables at Best Friends Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center!

Best Friends Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center is opening in Los Angeles this weekend. Meet some of the new residents who will be available for adoption! If you don't live in LA, help us wish them luck in finding new homes! Best Friends Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center is located at 15321 Brand Boulevard in Mission Hills, CA.Best Friends Animal Society is a nonprofit organization building no-kill programs and partnerships that will bring about a day when there are No More Homeless Pets®. At the core of Best Friends' work is the dream that one day kindness will replace cruelty and animals will no longer be destroyed because they are unwanted or imperfect. Spaying and neutering will be the rule for all pets and adoption will be the first option for everyone. Making this dream a reality is the mission we call No More Homeless Pets. The society's leading initiatives in animal care and community programs are coordinated from its Kanab, Utah, headquarters, the country's largest no-kill sanctuary. This work is made possible by the personal and financial support of a grassroots network of supporters and community partners across the nation. For more information, visit www.bestfriends.org.

Dog rescue from Downtown LA - Billy-G

Billy-G lived as a stray near the Natural History Museum in downtown Los Angeles. This poor six months old baby had to figure out how to survive, and he was so lucky that my friend Meg Thayer spotted him, and called me for help. Thank you Jessica Garzilli Doyle for independently trying to help Billy-G too. Please share this video and help us find him a home. The artist who performed the song in the video is Derek Luttrell. You can listen to all his songs here: www.reverbnation.com (and please support this young artist and buy his songs on iTunes). Thanks! Eldad

Grand Opening of Best Friends Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center in Los Angeles

Doors opened today (February 16, 2012) on a new era for Los Angeles dogs and cats as LA dignitaries, politicians, celebrities and animal lovers celebrated the grand opening of Best Friends Animal Society's new Pet Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center in Mission Hills. Located at 15321 Brand Boulevard, the 44000-square-foot facility was formerly the Northeast Valley Animal Shelter but never opened due to staff and budget issues. By operating a high-volume adoption and spay/neuter center, Best Friends is taking the lead in helping to end the euthanasia of roughly 20000 animals a year in Los Angeles. The City Council granted Best Friends permission to work out of the facility, which was constructed in 2007. Festivities included speeches, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, entertainment, and an opportunity for visitors to tour the facility. Celebrities and dignitaries came out in support of the project. Best Friends heads a coalition of more than 37 local animal rescues and shelters helping Los Angeles achieve no-kill status, meaning that a system will be in place to help stray animals get adopted, while solving the dog and cat overpopulation problem. The plan will increase shelter adoptions through a subsidy program combined with targeted spay/neuter efforts for low-income residents. First-year goals include an additional 3000 adoptions and 6000 spay/neuter surgeries. Best Friends encourages residents to join the effort by fixing their pets and adopting from shelters.

Hiker and dog rescued from cliff

Los Angeles fire fighters rescued a hiker and his dog who became stranded on the side of a steep cliff in the Lake View Terrace area. The man went after the dog when it fell over the side of the cliff. He was unable to get his footing back onto the trail, and both he and the dog became stuck and had to be harnessed by rescuers who brought them to safety.

Poodle and Corgie Mix - Dog Adoption in Los Angeles - Curly - KenMarRescue.org

Ken-Mar Rescue Mission Statement " Dedicated to helping end the overwhelming pet overpopulation problem in Southern California and beyond. To ensure that each animal in need has the opportunity to fully benefit from all that the information revolution has to offer." ****** When Curly showed up in the daily line-up email of "Death Row Dogs," it was hard to believe that such a gorgeous dog could not be wanted by anyone. Short, stout and handsome, our little Curly was buried under a sea of matted hair and grime so thick that the groomer took one look at him and said, "Let's start all over," and gave him a summer, "puppy" cut. Four hours and about 1 foot of hair on the floor later, emerged a sweet face with brown, almond eyes, thankful to be able to "see" again. Upon closer inspection, a scar on his nose was found and it was initially thought that he had some sort of laceration on his face. But further shaving showed that the scar went completely around his snout. What could have caused this cruelty? It looked as if a muzzle had literally grown into his skin and left a scar completely around his little face! There is no telling what could have possessed someone to do something this inhumane to a little dog. The best we could do was to let Curly know that it only gets better from here. Curly would do best in a home with an active lifestyle where he will be taken out on daily walks. Because he is very intelligent, he needs to have his mind occupied and would excel in any type ...

Small Animal Rescue Team Los Angeles Rescue of Bear

On June 22, 2009, the City of Los Angeles Small Animal Rescue Team received a call to rescue Bear, an eight year old, 100 lb. chocolate Labrador Retriever. Bear fell fifty feet down a cliff side while walking with his owner in the Hollywood Hills the evening before. Bears owner, and some hikers were unable to get Bear up, and he couldn't get up on his own. Bear was left clinging to the side of the cliff over night. In the morning, the Small Animal Rescue Team received the call and responded to Bears aid. Team members rappelled down the cliff side and were able to raise Bear to the top using a CMC K-9 Rappel Harness. Bear was returned to his owner unharmed.

Flash Mob Howl Los Angeles - Save a Life, Adopt a Pet!

Flash Mob Howl -- Los Angeles is the first flash mob with a message that invites on-lookers to participate and other communities to repeat and build upon! This was a non-partisan event, meaning we did not want to promote one group, but the overall message of 'Adopt a Pet -- Save a Life'. This was a grassroots movement, an all volunteer venture, there was no budget, just a lot of heart! We are not associated with any one rescue group, shelter or city, or county, we're just a lot of people who care. Many groups were invited to participate, and we were thrilled that so many were able to join us! For more information on all things related to pet adoption and to adopt pets seen in our video, please visit www.flashmobhowl.org.
