A dog which was rescued at sea off the coast of Kesennuma, Japan, on Friday after being found drifting on a roof is believed to have survived for three weeks after being washed away by the killer tsunami triggered by the March 11 earthquake. Coast guard members aboard a helicopter involved in the day's search for those still missing after the disaster found the dog on the roof drifting along some 1.8 kilometres off Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. It took several hours to catch the dog and bring him to the safety of a coastguard vessel. The dog's collar has no clues about the owner such as address and contact numbers. 5 years old maltese, Crazy Snowy, enjoys jumping into the pool and swimming; either for fun or to pull out any toy he finds in there. I turned his craze of jumping to swim into a trick with the command "Rescue"! I started to use the word "Rescue" and praise him for jumping in and getting what ever in there, out of the pool. I started to only reward him when he does that after *only* hearing me say "Rescue" .. this sure helps in reducing the chances that he will jump into the pool whenever he wishes to do so (even after hearing me say no or try to stop him) This video shows you Snowy performing his "Rescue" trick by pulling out the TOY turtle. I present you Snowy, the little life guard maltese lol - He is always alert, keeps his eyes open at the pool,jumps in to save and rescue and just enjoys his job In the second part of the video, you will see Bubble, our pet turtle, and the toy one - side by side for comparison. In fact, I know nothing of his history. He's not purebred. And he didn't have the perfect manners, in fact he had aggression issues! When heavy flooding hit the residents of Nakon Sawan people were forced to abandon their pets and flee to higher ground. Sangduen (Lek) Chailert took a team of volunteers and staff from the Elephant Nature Foundation to bring food and medicine and care for as many of the suffering and starving animals as possible. The animals are now being cared for at a temple by the Foundation's resident vet and volunteers. Check back later this week for an update.
