Nickelodeon Doo-Wop Bumpers

These bumpers are pure genius to me. This was when they started making awesome bumpers that people remember still to this day. I also love the story behind these bumpers. Two people, Fred Seibert and Alan Goodman used to be known as "logo guys". They are known for developing (not disigning) the MTV logo. They worked for MTV Networks for a little while, until they had the idea of developing media brands. They left MTV Networks and started Fred/Alan Inc. The first clients for Fred/Alan was MTV Networks. Fred and Alan, along with Tom Corey and Scott Nash, developed what is refered today as "the orange splat". Fred and Alan wanted to then create bumpers for Nickelodeon. They worked with Eugene Pitt, leader of The Jive 5, and several different animators. The hardest part was convincing Nickelodeon to use Doo-Wop. Nickelodeon executives believed, "Doo-wops 30 years old, no kid has ever heard of it. According to Fred Seibert, "We won the day on two grounds. "Fred played on the executives liberal backgrouds. 'We love all forms of African-American music, and using doo-wop will be a great way to educate American kids without anyone being the wiser.' "Alans worked even better. He opened his mouth and, quoting The Marcels arrangement of chestnut 'Blue Moon,' sang: "'Bom-ma-bom, a-bom-bom-a-bom, ba-ba-bom-bom-a-bomp, b-dang-a-dang-dang, b-ding-a-dong-ding.' "'What kid isnt going to relate to that right away?' Alan asked. "Case closed." Out of all this, the classic Nickelodeon jingle ...

Doo-Wop Mega Classic "Stormy Weather" Recorded Live by the doo-wop group The Metrotones

Doo-wop group The Metrotones' live album, "Let's Fall In Love", available from iTunes itunes.apple.com NOW! www.youtube.com www.themetrotones.co.uk The Metrotones are Britain's top doo-wop group. Formed in 1991, they began as a 4 piece acappella outfit, recording doo-wop shop jingles for London's Capital Gold. Shortly afterwards, they added a full 5 piece backing group and toured extensively all over Europe to great acclaim. Dressed in bright matching suits and incorporating wild choreography, they were described by John Stafford of Now Dig This magazine as being "as vocally excellent as they are visually exciting". Over the years the line-up has changed a little, but the front line has remained the same, but for bass-singer Colin Salway being replaced by the former Darts doo-wop oldies bassman, Den Hegarty. They have also recently added a second saxophone to the powerhouse backing ban

Dion And The Belmonts - Runaround sue

Dion and the Belmonts were a leading American vocal group of the late 1950s. The group formed when Dion DiMucci joined The Belmonts - Carlo Mastrangelo, Freddie Milano, and Angelo D'Aleo - in late 1957. After an unsuccessful first single, the group were signed to Laurie Records. Their breakthrough came when «I Wonder Why» made # 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and the group appeared for the first time on the Dick Clark TV show. They followed it with the ballads «No One Knows» (#19) and «Don't Pity Me» (#40). This success won Dion and the Belmonts their first major tour in late 1958, with The Coasters, Buddy Holly and Bobby Darin, and this was followed up by the «Winter Dance Party» tour with Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. On 2 February 1959, after playing at the Surf Ballroom, Dion decided that he could not afford the $36 cost of a flight to the next venue. The plane crashed, and Holly and the other stars were killed. However, the tour continued, with Jimmy Clanton and Bobby Vee being added to the bill. In March 1959, Dion and the Belmonts' next single, «A Teenager in Love», was released, making #5 in the Billboard Hot 100 and #28 in the UK Singles Chart, and this was followed by an album, Presenting Dion and the Belmonts. Their biggest hit, «Where or When», was released in November 1959, and reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. However, in early 1960, Dion checked in to hospital for heroin addiction, a problem he had had since his mid-teens.
THE STUDENTS I'M SO YOUNG

The students in this Doowop classic from 1958. First heard on a obscure chess greatest hits lp in the sixties. Later done by the beach boys on Beach boysToday from 1965 also a great unknown favourite. So great to learn on the internet that it was Jazz great Wes Montgomery who played on it in the Chess Studios, Chicago, Illinois on May 11, 1958. Also one of the great all time two siders with on the b side Every Day of the Week from the same session.

Doo-wop groups have flavored parts of the city and the subways for a while. Great because it's fun music. These guys made me laugh because of the look on the leaders face when he finishes without getting any money in his cup. Recorded on August 28, 2010 using a Flip Video camcorder.

Rare Doo Wop - Little June and the Januaries

The song is called Oh What A Feeling. I took a photograph of the wrong side of the label. Very rare record that I believe is from Chicago (or that general area). Little June and The Januaries also did a record on the Salem label that I believe is from the North Carolina area, but I could be wrong.
